Avanell Ruth Hinkle, 84, of Riverton, died Nov. 23, 2008, at her residence.

Born Jan. 31, 1924, at Dry Fork, she was a daughter of the late Homer Hedrick and Nela Phares Hedrick.

She was a homemaker and graduated from Circleville High School.  She was a member of North Fork Baptist Church and a

Her husband, Herbert Forrest Hinkle died July 22, 1987.

Surviving are two daughters, Betty Marshall Thomas and husband, Robert of Virginia Beach, VA, and Kathryn Verzich and husband, John of Riverton; three sisters, Lorena Hedrick and husband, Leonard of Petersburg, Wilda Bland of Riverton and Blonda Hartman and husband, Harold of Seneca Rocks; and three brothers, John Hedrick and wife, Lois of Riverton, Earl Hedrick and wife, Helen of Riverton, and William Hedrick and wife, Ramona of Courtland, OH; and two grandsons, Ben McAbee and Jason McAbee and wife Autumn.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Jerald.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Mark McAllister officiating. Interment will follow in the Hinkle Family Cemetery at Riverton.

Memorials may be made to the North Fork Baptist Church.

Funeral arrangements  were under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.  

Ruby R. Crown

Ruby R. Crown, 78, of Franklin died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at her home. 

She was born Sept. 19, 1930, at Ruddle and was the daughter of the late Oliver Hedrick and Florence American Lawrence Hedrick.

She had worked for C & P Telephone, was a school crossing guard and also worked for Pendleton County Insurance.  She was past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star Capter 138 and was a Collegian of the Women of the Moose.

On Jan. 4, 1951, she married Jesse W. Crown, who preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 2002. 

She is survived by one daughter, Ruby Mae Crown of Frederick, MD; three sisters, Shirley Thompson and Loveain Warner, both of Franklin, and Sarah smith of Upper Tract; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three caregivers, Brandie Hinkle, Vicky Mauzy and Karen Harper and her beloved dog, Precious.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Paul Hedrick; and two sisters, Joanna Hedrick and Frances Halterman.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with Rev. Stanley Kile and Pastor Jeffrey Thompson officiating.  Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery at Franklin.

The family received friends on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kimble Funeral Home.  Members of the Eastern Star Chapter 138 conducted a service at 7:30. 

Zernie Judy Reed, 95

Zernie Ethel (Judy) Reed, 95, of Petersburg died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg.

She was born May 23, 1913, in Pendleton County and was the daughter of hte late Henry Judy and Eliza (Champ) Judy.

Her husband, Gabriel "Gabe" Reed, preceded her in death in 1959.

Surviving are two sons, Minor Reed of Petersburg and Stanley Reed of Romney; two daughters, Martha Coffman of Petersburg and Rosalee R. Wratchford, both of Petersburg; one brother; Jesse Judy of Upper Tract; 11 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. 

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Zola Self; six brothers: Vernon, Charlie, Arlie, Bert, Oce and Grover Judy; and five sisters: Susan Kimble, Laura Self, Dora Moyers, Clara Rohrbaugh and infant Sarah Judy.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Rev. Bruce Cosner officiating.  Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg.

Rembert Pitsenbarger, 79

Rembert Pitsenbarger, 79, of Kemper House in Mentor, OH, died Nov. 14, 2008, at Kemper House.

He was born July 17, 1929, in Moyers, a son of the late William and Virginia Pitsenbarger. 

He had lived in Eastlake, OH, for 26 years before moving to Kemper House a year and a half ago.  Prior to that he had lived in Cleveland,OH.

Mr. Pitsenbarger retired from the Chevrolet plant in Parma, OH, after 30 years of service.  He was a member of the King of Kings Lutheran Church in Willoughby, OH, since 1999.  He was also a member of UAW Local 1005 in Parma, OH, Totten Chapel Church in Moyers, V.F.W. Post 9666 in Sugar Grove and the D.A.V. in Painesville, OH.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

His wife, Martha Warner Pitsenbarger, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on Dec. 3, 2004, preceded him in death.

Survivors are his daughter, Charlotte, (Ronald F.) Marshall, of Eastlake, OH; granddaughter, Sandra (Domenic) DiSantis of Eastlake, OH; great-grandson, Anthony DiSantis; siblings, Ralph (Arvella) of Franklin, Bonnie Mickey of Brookpark, OH, and Marvel Earheart of Cascade, MD: and sisters-in-law, Wanda Pitsenbarger of Franklin and Kathleen Pitsenbarger of Staunton, VA.

He was also preceded in death by his grandson, David R. Marshall; and brothers, Randolph and William "Harvey". 

Marvin Glenn Alexander

Marvin Glenn Alexander passed away peacefully on October 28th at the Carroll Hospice facility Dove House in Westminster Md.

He was born the son of George W. and Ola V. Alexander, November 27, 1929 on Main Mountain in Kline.

He was the husband of Nancy Rudy Alexander, his devoted wife of 58 years, who survives.

Mr. Alexander graduated from Franklin High School in Franklin in 1948. He began employment with the Damascus Motor Company in January 1955 and worked there until his retirement on December 31, 1991. He was recognized nationally for over 25 years as a member, and one time President of Chevrolet's Only the Best Club for service managers.

After retirement, Marvin and Nancy moved to Zephyrhills FL, and returned to Md. in October 2007 to be closer to family and friends. He took great pride in his West Virginia and Mt. Airy, MD, roots.

He joined the Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company in 1952, serving as an active member until 1965. He was made an honorary member in 1965 until present and served several years as financial secretary.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Douglas C. and wife Bonnie, Michael G. and wife Rosemary, Robert M. and wife Rita, and David S. and wife Betty; nine grandchildren, Steven Alexander, Angie Muller, Chris Logue, Joel Logue, Michael Muggs Alexander, Kory Alexander, Kerri Marini, Chris Alexander, US Army 2nd Lt. Adam Alexander, currently serving in Iraq, and 8 great-grandchildren. Marvin is also survived by siblings, Grace Dunkle, Eva Mae Hatton, Neva Morris, Warnie and Raymond.

He was also preceded in death by siblings, Foster, Hazel Mitchell, Roy, Ernest, Guy, and Dolan; devoted friends, Robert Gosnell, Bill Landis, and Travis Norwood.

Funeral services were held Nov. 3 at the Stauffer Funeral Home, Mount Airy, MD.  Interment followed at Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Airy, MD.
