Pauline V. Martin

Pauline Virginia Cleaver Martin, 79, of Richmond, VA, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at the Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville, VA. 

Mrs. Martin was born March 31, 1928, in Rough Run and was the daughter of the late Morley Linden and Wilda Judy Cleaver. 

She graduated from Franklin High School in 1947 and from James Madison College, Harrisonburg, VA, in 1950.  She taught elementary school in Arlington County for eight years. 

She attended Mount Horeb United Methodist Church in Kline. 

Her husband, William B. Martin, whom she married in 1953, survives. 

Also surviving are five sons, William L. Martin of Annandale, VA, David B. Martin of Memphis, TN, Michael C. Martin of Humble, TX, J. Eric Martin of Mechanicsville, VA, and Jeffrey M. Martin of Charlottesville, VA; and nine grandchildren.  

The Rev. Stanley Kile conducted the funeral Saturday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was in Kline Cemetery in Kline. 

Ellen M. Lenzi, 67

Ellen Mae Lenzi, 67, of Orange Park, FL, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at St. Vincents Hospital, Jacksonville, FL.

Mrs. Lenzi was born Sept. 15, 1940, in Elkton, VA, and was a daughter of Mary Kathleen Atkins and the late Simmie Atkins. 

She was a homemaker and spent most of her life in Florida. 

On April 7, 1990, she married Donald Lenzi, who survives. 

She is also survived by a daughter, Brenda Keene of Orlando, FL; two step-daughters, Laurie Tennyson and Kathy Harvey, both of Michigan; a step-son, Donald Lenzi, Jr., of Michigan; five brothers, Jimmie Atkins of Brandywine, Jesse Atkins, of Broadway, VA, and Dewey Atkins, Roger Atkins and Ricky Atkins, all of Dayton, VA; four sisters, Geraline Borror of Harrisonburg, VA, Betty Washburne of Springfield, OR, Juaneta Lambert of Bridgewater, VA, and Judy Vandevander of Crimora, VA; two granddaughters, eight step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.  

The Rev. Tony Martin conducted the funeral Friday at McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA.  Burial followed at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. 

Richard Albert Adamson, III

Richard Albert Adamson, III, 42, of Franklin and Pembroke Pines, FL, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, in a tragic accident in his home on North Fork Mountain near Franklin. 

He was born Dec, 31, 1964, in Silver Spring, MD, and was the son of Paula Adamson of Pembroke Pines, FL, and the late Richard Albert Adamson, Jr. 

He was a maintenance specialist and locksmith by trade and had always worked in the healthcare environment.  Quite talented and with unusual ability in building and mechanical  skills, he started his own part-time maintenance service.  He loved the outdoors and had a passion for hunting.  He enjoyed experiences in living on North Fork Mountain, often saying he wished he would never have to leave.  

Among his other interests were scuba diving, travel, ballroom dancing at a young age, coin collecting, his CG-5 Jeep, his parakeets and his mixed golden retriever, Grog.  

Surviving, besides his mother, with whom he spoke daily, are a brother, Kirk Louis Adamson, who he loved and respected his accomplishments; his grandfather, Louis Sanfilippo, who was a major part of his life, aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends. 

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with Father Mario Claro officiating.  

Ralph Sherwood, 86

Ralph Duvall Sherwood, 86, of Silver Spring, MD, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at Suburban Hospital in Maryland. 

Mr. Sherwood was born Jan 8, 1921, in Washington, DC, and was the son of the late Jesse Karl Sherwood and Carrie Duvall Sherwood.  He retired as senior program analyst from the IRS, where he worked from 1946 to 1973.  He was in the Army Air Corp during World War II from 1942-1945 and served in London England.  He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1938 and Benjamin Franklin University in 1940.  He enjoyed golfing and reading. 

His first wife, Helen Elizabeth Mallow Sherwood, preceded him in death Dec. 30, 1977. 

Survivors include his wife, Laura Adelia Scaffidi Sherwood, whom he married Jan.2, 1988; two daughters, Susan Carol Sherwood of Gaithersburg, MD, and Janet Marie Sherwood, D.V.M. and husband, Kent of Midland, MI; three step-sons, Stephen Whitman and Michael Whitman, both of Maryland, and Bradley Whitman of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews. 

He also was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Benham.  

The Rev. Stanley Kile conducted the funeral Saturday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.  

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.  

Rebecca G. Bible, 63

Rebecca "Becky" Grace Hartman Bible, 63, of McGaheysville, VA, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, at her home. 

Mrs. Bible was born Apirl 16, 1944, in Riverton and was the daughter of the late Curtis and Grace Werner Bland. 

She managed the Exxon Stop In Food Store in Weyers Cave, VA, and for many years prior to that managed the High's Store in Penn Laird, VA.  She was the former owner of Becky's Place Convenience.  She was a member of Keezletown United Methodist Church and was an active Sunday School teacher.  She was also active in the Grottoes Food BAnk and was a Cub Scout leader.  She was a member of the Keezletown Ruritan Club.

On April 14, 1981, she married Donald E. Bible, who survives. 

Also surviving are three sons, Frank Hartman and wife, Kim of Pineville, VA, Rick Bible of Charlottesville, VA, and Mike Hartman and wife, Tammy, of Keezletown, VA; three daughters, Donna Bible and husband, Colum Leckey of Bridgewater, VA, Dedra Layman and husband, Tim of Keezletown, VA, and Julie Rogers and husband, James of Massanetta Springs, VA; three sisters, Shirley Bland of Broadway, VA, Eva Thompson of Hinton, VA, and Wilma Nelson of Dayton, OH; and nine grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by siblings, Katheryn Sponaugle, Wanda Nelson, Roy Bland and Marshall Bland.  

Funeral services were held at Saturday at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA, with the Revs. Dawn Marie Singleton and C. Edward Pruitt officiating.  Burial followed at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Mattie D. Propst, 92

Mattie Devers Propst, 92, of Springfield, VA, and formerly of McLean, VA, died on Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at Greenspring Village. 

She was born in Bealeton, VA, on Jan. 12, 1915, a daughter of James Henry Devers and Mattie Cooke Devers. 

Her husband, Elvin E. Propst, preceded her in death.  

She is survived by a son, Clinton N. Propst, and wife, Donna of Bealeton; five step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.  

Graveside services were held Monday at Pine Hill Cemetery, Brandywine. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.
