Betty L. Evans, 70

Betty Louise (Whetzel) Evans, 70, of Maysville, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA.

Mrs. Evans was born June 18, 1932, in Dumpling Run and was a daughter of the late Silas B. Whetzel and Dora Alice Mongold Whetzel.

She was a member of Bethel Church of the Brethren in Landes. She was a former cook of Grant County Commission on Aging and had worked in housekeeping at Grant County Nursing Home.  

Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Adam Kee Evans; five sons, Robert K. Evans and Timothy S. Eavns, both of Maysville, Roy W. Evans and Randy L. Evans, both of Dorcas and Larry W. Evans of Cabins; two sisters, Faye Ratliff of Timberville, VA, and Lonia Ratliff of Upper Tract; two brothers, Ace Whetzel of Mathias and Harvey Whetzel of Franklin; six grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, infant, John Adams Evans, and Terry Anthony Evans; two brothers, Harman Whetzel and Harry Whetzel; eight sisters, Edna Whetzel; Hattie Caplinger, Virginia Kelley, Ollie May, Bertie Nesselrodt, Susie Evans, Margie Nesselrodt and Odie Mongold.

The Rev. Gregory A. Rotruck conducted the funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial was at the Whetzel family cemetery in South Fork.

Cora M. Nesselrodt, 95

Cora M. Nesselrodt, 95, of Fort Seybert, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA. She had lived at the Pendleton County Nursing for several years.

Mrs. Nesselrodt was born Nov. 23, 1906, in Green Bank and was the daughter of the late George Myers and Susan Mitchell Myers.

She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Mennonite Church.

Her first husband, Ira Harman, and her second husband, Earl Nesselrodt, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Eugene Shaver conducted the funeral 1 p.m. Monday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at the Puffenbarger cemetery in Fort Seybert.

 

Schyima N. Raines, 71

Schyima N. Raines, 71, of Unionville, VA, and formerly of Thornwood, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.

She was born Oct. 26, 1931, at Goodells, MI, a daughter of the late Conrad Johannes Lump and Ollie Ellison.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Virgil R. Lambert, in 1972 and her second husband Berlie Raines, on May 5, 1980.

Surviving are four sons, Steven Lomp and Kile Lambert, both of Mill Creek, Virgil L. Lambert of Valley Bend, and Harlan Lambert of Unionville, VA, with whom she lived; one brother, Richard Lump, Port Huron, Mich.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

The Rev. Frank Stanley conducted graveside services Tuesday at 2 p.m. Burial was at Lambert Cemetery, Elk Mountain near Cherry Grove. Arrangements were under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.

 

Edwin Guy Harman, 79

Edwin Guy Harman, 79, of Petersburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Harman was born Nov. 16, 1922, in Mozer and was the son of the late Robert M. Harman and Jessie Mae Calhoun Harman.

He was a member of Grove Street United Methodist Church in Petersburg, and was a retired truck driver for Petersburg Oil Company.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Georgia McUlty Harman. They were married February 26, 1943.

Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Delmer Harman of Waldorf, MD, and Jackie and Steve Zywicki of Woodbridge, VA; two sisters, Anna Mullenax and Viola Nelson, both of Petersburg; three grandchildren, Kathy Anne Harman, Waldorf, MD, Stacie and husband Eric Mallatt of Woodbridge, VA and Shaun Zywicki of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.

 

Ona G. Thompson, Jr., 66

Ona Glenn Thompson, Jr., 66, Franklin, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Mr. Thompson was born Oct. 22, 1936, at Ruddle and was a son of the late Ona Glenn Thompson, Sr., and Lillie Mae Meadows, Thompson.

He had worked for Marvel Poultry, Brockway and Main Street Texaco. He attended Reeds Creek United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his former wife, Janet Thompson of Franklin; two daughters , Michelle Thompson and Becky Thompson, both of Franklin; two sons, Kevin Thompson, Sr., and Jeremy Thompson, both of Franklin ; two brothers, Ralph Thompson of Brandywine and Dale "Mark" Thompson of Upper Tract; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with the Rev. Ed Null officiating. Burial was in the Cherry Hill Cemetery at Upper Tract.
