Arnice Cleaver, 86 
Arnice Cleaver, 86, Fulks Run, VA, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at the Newton-Baker VA Center in Martinsburg.
Mr. Cleaver was born Aug. 24, 1917, in Moorefield and was the son of the late Lemuel and Virginia Cleaver Cleaver.
He had retired form Dunham-Bush after 15 years. He graduated from Pittsburgh School of Refrigeration and Air conditioning, from 1950 to 1951. He served in the Army in World War II and was a member of the Chimney Rock VFW Post No. 9660 and the Moorefield American Legion. He was a member of the Mathias Brethren Church.
On Sept 25, 1949, he married Gloria Fitzwater, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Rodney Cleaver of Mathias, Dee Cleaver of Timberville, VA, and Joey Cleaver of Fulks Run, VA; two daughters, Kathy Reedy of Fulks Run, VA, and Debbie Reedy of Brandywine; two foster sisters, Mammie Puffenbarger of Romney and Nita Robertson of Silver spring, MD; 12 grandchildren; seven -step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Jim Corbitt conducted a graveside funeral 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mount Grove Cemetery in Fulks Run, VA. The body was cremated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Broadway Rescue Squad, PO box 666, Broadway, VA 22815, or to the Mathias Brethren Church, Mathias, WV 26812.
Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway, VA, handled the arrangements.
Dennis J. Warner
Dennis J. Warner, 53, Circleville, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
Mr. Warner was born Dec. 22, 1949, in Hunting Ground and was the son of the late Verlie Warner and Ona Sponaugle Warner.
He was a house painter and farmer. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Rachael Burns of Circleville; four sisters, Mildred Reisler of Fort St. Lucia, FL, Geneva Hudson and husband, Bruce of Hanover, PA, Frances Bright and Dee of Fort Pierce, FL, and Carolyn Teets and Robert of Seneca Rocks; three brothers, Jimmie Warner of Fredericksburg, VA, Gale Warner of Hunting Ground, and Kermit Warner and wife, Nancy of Waldorf, MD; and two grandchildren, Donald and Sabrina Burns; nine nephews; 11 nieces; 13 great-nephews; and 19 great-nieces.
He ws preceded in death by three brothers, Olin, Jearl and Johnie; and one sister, Hilda Wimer.
Dr. Rev. Paul O'Gorek conducted the funeral 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was in the Warner family cemetery in Hunting Ground.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Mountain Hospice.
Leland Nesselrodt, 78
Leland Nesselrodt, 78, of Las Vegas, NV, and a former resident of Martinsburg for 49 years, died at his home in Las Vegas, NV, on Sunday Nov. 2, 2003.
Mr. Nesselrodt was born Feb. 10, 1925 in Brandywine and was the son of the late Grover and Sarah Hartman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and wounded while serving in World War II. Among the many medals he earned were the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and good Conduct Medals. He retired from the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg in 1986 with 34 years . He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of Sunrise Baptist church in Las Vegas, NV. He was a loving husband, devoted father and friend to those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 47 yers, Mary Louise (Stephens) Nesselrodt, at home; one daughter, Marianne (Nesselrodt) Street of Las Vegas, NV; one son, Timothy W. Nesselrodt of Bonaire Dutch ANtilles; two granddaughters, Denise (Street) Hughey and Christina (Street) Trujillo, both of Las Vegas, NV; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Hughey, Morgan Hughey, Kristin Trujillo, and Madison Trujillo; two sisters, Martha Arey of Dayton, VA, and Betty Propst of Amarillo, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Caplinger.

Funeral services were held in Las Vegas, NV, on Saturday, Nov. 8.
Boyd W. Siple, 88
Boyd W. Siple, 88 of Brandywine, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Nella's Nursing Home in Crystal springs.
Mr. Siple was born Sept. 18, 1915, in Deer Run and was the son of the late Theodore Pierce Siple and Ina Wagoner Siple.
He was a farmer and a member of the West Virginia Farm Bureau. He attended Riverside United Methodist Church.
On March 23, 1940, he married Beulah Propst Siple, who preceded him in death Sept. 30, 1995.
He is survived by a daughter, Judy Eason of Brandywine; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Harvey Nicholson conducted a graveside service 3 p.m. Friday at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine.
The Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin was in charge of the arrangements.
C.E. "Gus" Smith, 72
C.E. "Gus" Smith, 72, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, from congestive heart failure and diabetes.
Gus was born in Petersburg, the sixth of eight children to Austin and Augusta Smith. Gus is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Verda, Georgianna and Kitty.
He was the only child of Mom and Pop Smith to attend college, majoring in education. He taught at Franklin for four years upon graduation from Salem College. Gus moved to York County in 1960 when he accepted a teaching/coaching position at York High School.
Gus transferred from York High School when Tabb High School opened and retired from Tabb in 1990 after 30 years of service to York County Public Schools. He was a prominent figure at most sporting events involving the Falcons and Tigers. Gus also sang the praises of all the bus drivers in York County because they had the most important job within the school system--transporting our most precious cargo.
In 1987, Gus accepted a part-time Elf position with Santa and Mrs. Claus. He proudly served the York County, Poquoson, Hampton and Newport News communities in spreading the magic of Christmas. Gus retired from this position after the 1995 holiday season, but continued to make special appearances.
He is survived by his three children, Mark A. Smith of Wildwood, NJ, Ami F. (Smith) Leaman of Poquoson, and Augusta A. (Smith) Evans of York county; two granddaughters, Sarah E. Leaman and Lil Sadie M. Smith; sisters, Helen, Phyllis and Joan, brother, O.A. "Big Gus"; his beloved friend, Becki Douthat; his confidant, Doug Baggett and a host of family , colleagues and former students.
Services were private. Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, VA, was in charge of the arrangements.

Carl W. Mitchell, 81
Carl W. Mitchell, 81, of Upper Tract, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Macie Armentrout Mitchell.
He was a farmer and a retired school bus driver.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.
