Gwen Barbara Kennedy

Gwen Barbara Kennedy, 69, of Redford, MI, and formerly of Franklin, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Botsford Hospital in Farmington, MI.

Mrs. Kennedy was born on Oct. 15, 1940 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of the late Margaret Lucy Armstrong McEwen and Loren Howard McEwen.

She married Richard Kennedy on July 20, 1981, who preceded her in death on May 17, 1991.

She graduated High School in Detroit, MI.  She was a waitress and cook in the food service industry, also having worked in the deli at Franklin IGA.  She was a Catholic.

Surviving are two daughters, Betty Jean Gaydos and Virginia Lynn Beane, both of Redford, MI; two sons, James Scott Shoening of Columbia, MD, and Daniel Howard Schoening, Redford, MI; one sister, Margaret Connors of Novi, MI; one brother, Howard Ewen, Ft. Wayne, IN; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Rev. Mario Claro officiated a graveside memorial service on Tuesday at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Franklin.

Bernard Lee Collett

Bernard Lee Collett, 79, a resident of South Mills, NC, and a former resident of East Dailey, passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 4, 2009, at the home of his daughter, Tammy Armentrout at Whitmer.

He was born June 15, 1930, at Dailey, a son of the late Earl Washington Collett and Opal Mae Groves Collett.

Mr. Collett was a Veteran of the Korean War, having served with the United States Air Force in England.  He was employed by Lab Craft at Beverly, and in May 2007, he retired from Colonial Mill Works at Beverly.  He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church of South Mills, NC, and a former member of the Tygart Valley Baptist Church in Beverly.  He was also a member of HW Daniels Post 29 American Legion.

He was formerly married to Faye Lucille Warner, who passed away on Dec. 29, 2003.

Surviving are a son, Roger Lee Collett and wife, LeAnn of Lexington, NC; two daughters, Terry Lucille Thornhill and husband, Daniel of South Mills, NC, and formerly of East Dailey, and Tammy Louise Armentrout and husband, Dave of Whitmer; two sisters, Joan Yokum and husband, Austin of Beverly, and Velma Gay Lewis Seal, Winchester, VA; and five grandchildren, Lindsay, Joseph and Andrea Thornhill, Alex Armentrout and Jake Collett.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, James Lee Collett.

A funeral service was held Saturday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home, Elkins, with Pastor Jack Howell and Rev. William Sullivan officiating.  Interment followed in the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery near Elkins.  Full military rites were accorded at the gravesite by members of HW Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Leo Wayne Ruddle

Leo Wayne Ruddle, 54, of Franklin passed away on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at the Pendleton Manor in Franklin.

Mr. Ruddle was born on June 18, 1955, in Harrisonburg, VA, the son of Lona Alice Meadows Ruddle of Franklin and the late Virgil Lee Ruddle, who preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 1988.

He graduated from Franklin High School in 1973.  He loved Harley motorcycling and tractor trailer driving.  He was a tractor-trailer driver for Ruddle Trucking and worked for American Woodmark for five years.  He was a member of the Ruddle Presbyterian Church.

He was married to Sandra Kay Newcomb Hinkle, who died June 16, 2009.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Christopher A. Ruddle and wife, Melanie of Franklin; a sister, Martha Lee Kimble and husband, Charles of Franklin; two grandchildren, Makailyn and Ryelan Ruddle; a nephew, Charles Lee Kimble; and a great-niece, Shania Kimble.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harlan Roy Ruddle.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin, with Rev. Kevin Lee Hand officiating.  Burial was at the Ruddle Cemetery in Ruddle.

Hyldren Lantz, 82

Hyldren “Doc” Pearl Lantz, 82, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA. 

Mr. Lantz was born April 1, 1927, in Reeds Creek and was the son of the late Pearl and Ethel Lantz. 

During World War II, he was in the USMC.  When he returned to the Harrisonburg, VA, area, he was a mechanic for Highway Motors and later worked in construction as a mason.  He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 632 in Harrisonburg, VA.

Surviving are three sons, Billy E. Lantz and wife, Joyce of Keezletown, VA, Steven A. Lantz and wife, Donna of Pineville, VA, and David W. Lantz and wife, Krista of Newport News, VA; two daughters, Linda Sue White and husband, Joe of Gloucester, VA, and Vickie A. Madison and husband, Jimmy of Newport News, VA; 12 grandchildren; one step-grandson; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Frankie H. Lantz; and two sisters, Mary Bilheimer and Myrtle Shifflett.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA, with the Rev. Jimmy Kite officiating.  Burial followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
