John A. Kimble

John A. Kimble, 90, of Franklin, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA

He was born Aug. 4, 1914, at Smoke Hole, the son of the late Adam Albert Kimble and Lucinda Ellen Self Kimble.

After graduating from Franklin High School in 1938, he began business at Brushy Run, establishing Midway Service Station. In 1940, he moved to Upper Tract and operated John Kimble’s Store and the Upper Tract Post Office. In 1950, he opened Kimble Motor Sales, which was the local Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth dealership, along with Oliver Farm Equipment. He owned and operated the first roller skating rink in Franklin. In 1973, he opened Kimble Discount Tire at Ruddle, which is now Kar Kare in Franklin. In 1977, He helped his son establish Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

On July 14, 1940, he married Wilda Ruddle Kimble, who preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 1985.

Surviving are two daughters, Charlotte M. Cole of Harrisonburg, VA, and Virginia A. Flatgaard of Alexandria, VA; one son, Keith A. Kimble of Franklin; two half sisters, Alice Ketterman of Maysville and Zola Swick of Petersburg; one half brother, Kennie Kimble of Upper Tract; one grandson, Michael Cole of Richmond, VA; one granddaughter, Pam Cole of Bristow, VA; and two great-grandsons, Ryan Cole and Sean Cole, both of Richmond, VA

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin, with the Rev. Donald S. Wilkinson officiating. Burial will be at the Ruddle Presbyterian Church cemetery.  

Friends may call at the Kimble Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday.

Ovie Keaton, 82

Ovie Keaton, 82, of Brandywine and formerly of Port Washington, OH, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harriosnburg, VA. 

Mr. Keaton was born Feb 27, 1922, in Terryville, KY, and was the son fo the late Harry and Mary Fife Keaton. 

He was a retired brick maker with Belden Brick Co. and a dairyman.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Wright, in January 1995. 

Surviving are three daughters, Stella Rose of Brandywine, Margaret Adkins of Ovapa and Ruth Johnson of Sarahsville, OH; two sons, Ovie "Turner" Keaton of Catlettsburg, KY, and Rudolph "Rudy" Keaton of Kimbolton, OH, 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

He also was preceded in death by one son, John Keaton  in 1967.  

The Rev. Mark James conducted the funeral at 7 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was Saturday in the Hoskinsville Cemetery in Belle Valley, OH. 

Memorial contributions may be made tot he Pendleton county Rescue Squad.  

Norman C. Shaw, 88

Norman Cecil Shaw, 88, of Hamilton Meadows, OH, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at his residence. 

Born Jan. 23, 1916, in Franklin, he was the son of the late Cecil and Anne Kuykendall Shaw. 

Mr. Shaw was a retired Senior Master Sergeant, U.S.A.F.  He was a member of Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, Columbus, OH.  

Surviving are his wife, Mary E. Shaw of Columbus, OH; two sons, Wayne Norman Shaw and wife, Carol, of Westerville, OH, Steven Charles Shaw of Tipp City, OH; three granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 1, at the Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, Columbus OH, with the Rev. Tom Knauff officiating.  Interment was in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
