Anna Humphreys, 86

Anna Mae Humphreys, 86, of Franklin passed away Tuesday Oct. 30, 2007, at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin, with her family at her side.

Ms. Humphreys was born March 20, 1921, in Greenville and was the daughter of the late Alvy F. Humphreys, Sr., and Beamy Mae Green Humphreys. 

She was a registered nurse, having retired in Miami, FL, and was a mbmer of the Greenville United MEthodist Church.  

She was an incredibly special lady, who possessed a heart full of kindness, generosity and love for others.  With these gifts, she touched many lives. 

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. 

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Humphreys of Frankin; two nephews, Alvy F. Humphreys, II, and wife, Tammy of Franklin, and James Robert Humphreys and wife, Melody of Centreville, VA; four great-nieces, Shauna Gile of Portsmouth, VA, and Cassie, Becky and Katie Humphreys of Franklin; two great-nephews, Robbie and Tommy Humphreys of Centreville, VA; and two great-great-nephews, Joey and Jamie Gile of Portsmouth, VA. 

The Rev. Hughllyn Wilson conducted a graveside service Sunday at the Greenville United Methodist Church Cemetery in Greenville. 

Memorial donations may be made to Mountain Hospice, Inc., 1600 Crim Ave., Belington, WV  26250 or Frankin Rescue Squad, Franklin. 

Arrangements were made by Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin.  

Anna Lee Hesse, 83

Anna Lee Alt Hesse, 83, of Maysville, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, at her home.

Mrs. Hesse was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Smoke Hole and was the daughter of the late Lottie Alt Reel Hockman. 

She was a member of Falls Assembly of God Church and was formerly employed by the Sewing Factory in Petersburg.  

Her husband, Thomas Henry Hesse preceded her in death in 1992.  

Survivors include a son, Elmo Hesse of Maysville; two foster sons, Ralph Fultz of Mount Storm and Allen Leon Fultz of Bayard; two grandchildren, Tina Ketterman and Michael Hesse; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren, Rodney Swick and Stacy Vance; three foster grandchildren, Adam Fultz, Shawn Fultz and Melissa Fultz; one great-granddaughter.

In addition to her husband and her mother, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Clinton Alt and Charles June Reel; two step brothers, Leander Reel and William "Bill" Reel; and one sister, Irene (Alt) Berg.

The Revs. Vivan Watts and Lyle W. Berg, Sr. conducted the funeral Wednesday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Georgia M. Strawder 

Georgia Mae Strawder, 92, of Franklin died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin. 

Mrs. Strawder was born Oct. 25, 1915, in Simoda and was the daughter of the late Charles A. VAndevander and Christina Lambert Vandevander.  

She was a homemaker and Brethren by faith. 

On June 23, 1936, she married Mason A. Strawder, who preceded her in death Jan. 20, 2000.  

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Bernice Kimble of Franklin; two sisters, JEssie Vandevander (her twin) of Franklin and Ethel Wimer of Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. 

She also was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. 

Pastor Tommy George conducted the funeral Monday at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

Merlin N. George, 72

Merlin North "Midge" George, 72, of Petersburg died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at his home.

He was born Sept. 15, 1935, in Petersburg and was the son of the late Pearl Eston George and Ella (Kuykendall) George. 

Surviving are five brothers, Harold George of Maysville, Junior George, Donald George and Otha George, all of Petersburg, and Clifton "Joe" George of Brushy Run: and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest L. "Satchel" George and James T. George; and one sister, Evelyn (George) Self.

Funeral services were held Nov. 1 at the Schaeffer Funeral Home Chapel, Petersburg, with Pastor Harold George Jr. officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grant County Little League Baseball, c/o Mike George, 4 Lee St., Petersburg, WV 26847.
