James E. Alt, 58

James Edward alt, 58, of Moorefield died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va. 

Mr. Alt was born July 5, 1947, in Petersburg and was a son of Norma Jean Puffenbarger Alt Moog of Baltimore, MD, and the late Earl Edward Alt.

He retired from General Motors in Baltimore, MD, and was an Army veteran of Vietnam. 

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Norma Carol Mister Alt of Moorefield; two sons, James Edward Alt, Jr., of Upper Tract and Kevin Edward Alt of Bel Air, MD; a step-son, Michael Wilson of Baltimore, MD;  two daughters, Jessica Alt and Ashley Alt, both of Moorefield; a step-daughter, Mary Sherba of Bel Air, MD: two sisters, Sharon sites of Upper Tract and Brenda Alt of Moorefield; three step-sisters, Linda Koontz of Petersburg, Sandra Davidson of Baltimore, MD, and Vickie Williamson of Salisbury, MD; two brothers, Terry Alt of Arthur and Gary Alt of Maysville; a half brother, Jake Moog of Arthur; eight grandchildren, including a granddaughter, Brittney Nicole Wilson, whom they raised, Lauren Alt, Sarah Sherba, Kyle Lutz, Angel Alt, Kevin Alt, Gabriel Alt and Michael Wilson. 

He also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sara Alt. 

Pastor Chris Whetzel conducted the funeral Tuesday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was at the cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract with military honors by the combined veterans organizations of Grant County and JROTC. 

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.  

Norma Grace Pendleton

Norma Grace Armentrout Pendleton, 80, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC.  she had been in declining health for the past few years and death was attributed to cancer and heart disease. 

She was born in Mouth of Seneca on Dec. 11, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Bernie and Iva Armentrout, formerly of Seneca Rocks and Elkins. 

Mrs. Pendleton was professionally known as "Ms. Penny" in the recreational vehicle community in which she was a business owner for more than 50 years in the DC, Maryland and Virginia areas.

She was a charter member of Grace Brethren Church and an associate member of the Olney Baptist church. 

Surviving are her husband, Ralph "Penny" Pendleton, five sisters, Olive Vance, Josie Toomey, Doris Armentrout, Retha Woeckener and Karen Conlan; two brothers, Harold Dwite Armentrout and Max Armentrout; and several nieces and nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews. 

One brother, Stacy Blair Armentrout, also preceded her in death.  

Services were held in the chapel of Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, Silver Spring, MD, on Oct. 20.  Interment was at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Rockville, MD. 

Leona P. Hahn, 76

Mrs. Leona Pauline Hahn, 76, of Greensboro, NC, and formerly of Woodbridge, VA, died Thursday Oct. 27, 2005, at her home. 

A native of Mathias, Mrs. Hahn was born on Sept. 18, 1929, the daughter of the late Russell and Gladys Cullers Mongold. 

She enjoyed a career of over 30 years in the real estate business, which included being a real estate agent in Pendleton County.  She was a member of Oak Ridge United Methodist church.  Mrs. Hahn enjoyed making ceramics, her friends in her water aerobics group, and her grandchildren.  

She married Arthur Webster "Buddy" Hahn in 1947 and was a devoted military wife for over 25 years until his death in 1973.  The Hahns made their first home in Brandywine. 

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Angela H. and Mike Fahnestock of Summerfield, NC; a granddaughter, a great-grandson; a grandson; two sisters, Velda Wolfrey and husband, Herb of Maryland and Jerlene Rosensteel and husband, Steve of Virginia; four sister-in-law, Mary Lea McCoy of Franklin, Jean Snyder of Mathias, Elizabeth Snyder of Broadway, VA, and Medrith Garber of Woodbridge, VA; and several nieces and nephews.  

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Oak Ridge United Methodist Church, Oak Ridge, NC, with Dr. John Franklin Howard officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Oak Ridge United Methodist Church, 2424 Oak Ridge Rd., Oak Ridge, NC.  

The Brooke Chapel of Forbis & Dick Funeral Service, Stokesdale, NC, was in charge of funeral arrangements.  

Donna G. Tolley 

Donna Genelle Tolley of Franklin, formelry of Covington, VA, passed away Oct. 26, 2005, at her residence at the age of 72. 

Mrs. Tolley was born in Seminole, OK, and was the daughter of the late Randolph and Charlotte Wilhelmenia Palstring Shoemaker.  

She was a member and organist at the Church of the Good Shepherd in blue Grass, VA.  She graduated from Murray State University with a masters degree in music and English.  She enjoyed quilting, reading, cooking, gardening, knitting and serving as an organist at church and had a profound love for her grandchildren.  She was a professor at Murray State University, Murray, KY, Vincennes University, Vincennes, IN, Davis and Elkins College, Elkins, Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, Clifton Forge, VA, Cape Fear Tech, Wilmington, NC and Salem Teikyo University, Salem.  

Her husband, Dr. Charles H. Tolley, preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 2002. 

surviving are two daughters, Leslie Wynn and husband, Randy Bowers of Franklin, and Karen N. and husband, John Gillispie of Covington, VA, three sons, including twins, William "Bill" Tolley and wife, Lori, Raymond Howard Tolley, and wife, Susan, Both of Covington, VA, and Karl Bryan Tolley of Baghdad, Iraq and eight grandchildren, Zachary Bowers, Lindsay Bowers, Jacob Tolley, Joseph Tolley, Josh tolley, Sara Tolley, Jared Gillispie and Bryan Gillispie. 

She also was preceded in death by two sons, an infant and Joseph Tolley; one granddaughter, Afton Carlyle Gillispie; four brothers; and one sister.  

As per Ms. Tolley's wishes and love of education, her body has been donated to the West Virginia School of Medicine.  a memorial service will be held at a later date.  

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice. 

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.  

John A. Hevener

John Audrith Hevener, 82, of Deer Run was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005.  His passing occurred at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA, where he had been a patient for six days. 

Born near Kline on Aug. 29, 1923, he was the fifth of seven children born to Daniel Ezra and Rena Mae Dahmer Hevener. 

In 1940, he graduated from Franklin High School and then spent some time working in Washington, DC, before being drafted in to the United States Army in 1942.  After his World War II service, he attended West Virginia University, majoring in agriculture.  He taught the Veterans Training Program for seven years, and in 1987 he retired from working for the West Virginia Department of human Services as a social worker and juvenile probation officer.  While working for the public, he also was a full-time farmer and particularly enjoyed raising sheep.  

Mr. Hevener was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist church, where he was a Sunday School teacher, choir member and superintendent and faithfully participated in Christmas programs.  

He faithfully supported his family's many endeavors by attending sporting events, banquets and concerts and encouraged family gatherings.  

He loved to bless fmaily, friends and neighbors with the bounty of his garden.  Favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, going to yard sales and collecting bottles which resulted in an impressive collection.

On Aug 16, 1952, he married Lucy M. Butcher, who  preceded him in death on March 12, 2004. 

He is survived by a brother, Roy Hevener of Deer Run; two sisters, viola Watson of Newport News, VA, and Lula Belle Kline of Framklin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Larry Byers of Deer Run and Beverly and Andy Eye of Fort Seybert; one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Nicole Hevener of Der Run; and ten grandchildren, Joshua, Elijah, Joel and Rebekah Byers, Aaron, Seth and Isaac Eye and Brooke, Daniel and Timothy Hevener; and several nieces and nephews.  

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Hevener was also preceded in death by his brother, Claude, and two brothers in infancy. 

Funeral services were held at Mount Zion United Methodist church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Carl Tribett officiating.  Interment was at Cedar Hill Cemetery by Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin. 

Memorial donations may be made to Mount Zion United Methodist Church at HC 72 Box 26A, Franklin, WV  26807.
