George R.W. Wright

George Richard Welton Wright, 69, Franklin, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Wright was born Feb. 3, 1932 at Franklin and was a son of the late George Sherman Wright and Margie Ann Moats Wright.

He retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways and had formerly worked at Walker Manufacturing. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Entry Mountain AME Church, superintendent of Sunday School, and a member of Progressive Civic Club.

He was married to the former Geneva Moats, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Anita Moats, Franklin; one son, Reginald Moats, Franklin; two sisters, Dorothy Guy and Frances Wright, both of Franklin; three brothers, Sterlin Wright, Buckhannon, DeWayne Wright, Morgantown, and Harry Wright, Franklin; seven grandchildren. Damien Moats, Demane Moats, Margaret "Muffy" Moats, Sabrina Moats, Tiesha Moats, Ryan "R.J." Moats and Bridgette Moats.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Wright and Lee Wright; and two sisters, Shirley Wright and Charlotte Redman.

The Rev. Eldon Moats will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m. Friday at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Interment will follow at the Entry Mountain Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
