Stelman J. Vandevander

Stelman J. Vandevander, 64, of Circleville, died Saturday, Oct 22, 2005, at his home. 

Mr. Vandevander was born Sept. 13, 1942, in Cherry Grove and was the son of Floda Bennett Vandevander of Circleville and the late Russell Stelman Vandevander. 

He was a timberman and a truck driver.  he was a member of Big Run Presbyterian Chapel. 

On July 2, 1965, he married Freda Mick Vandevander, who survives. 

also surviving are two daughters, Penny Vandevander and Roxanna Vandevander, both of Circleville; two sons, Stelman Steven Vandevander and Ronald Vandevander, both of Circleville; two sisters, Charlotte Warner of Circleville and Ellen Hoover of Weyers Cave, VA; a brother, Harold Vandevander of Circleville; and 13 grandchildren.  

He also was preceded in death by one son, Leslie, and one brother, Berlin.  

A funeral was conducted Tuesday at the Big Run Presbyterian Chapel in Cherry Grove with Pastors George Lambert and Angela Cosner officiating.  Burial was in the Mick-Hedrick Cemetery by Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

Olie M. Arbogast

Olie M. Arbogast, 95, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, VA.    

Mr. Arbogast was born May 31, 1911, in Onego and as the son of the late Robert C. and Della Vance Arbogast. 

He attended schools in  West Virginia.  He was a medic in World War II and was honorably discharged from the Army Aug. 22, 1943, due to a neck injury.  He was a lumberjack, farmer and Carpenter for many years and was a charter member of Harrisonburg Mennonite Church.

On April 20, 1946, he married Elsa Yoder, who survives. 

Also surviving are a foster son, David Thompson of Providence Forge, VA; two sisters, Gae Arbogast of Bridgewater, VA, and Blanche Vance of Oak Lea Nursing Home, Harrisonburg, VA; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. 

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Denver Arbogast and Earl Arbogast, and one sister, Bertha Warner. 

Pastors Mike Keller and Kathy Hochstedler conducted a memorial service Friday at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church.  A private burial was held earlier.  A second memorial service will be held at Virginia Mennonite Retirement community, Strite Auditorium at a later date. 

Memorial contributiosn may be made to the Virginia Mennonite Retirement community Campassion Fund or the Harrisonburg Mennonite Church Compassion Fund.  

Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA, was in charge of funeral arrangements.  

C. Keith Judy 

C. Keith Judy, 98, of Nella's Nursing Home in Elkins and formerly of Circleville died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at the nursing home.  

Mr. Judy was born Sept. 22, 1907, in Circleville and was the son of the late william Arthur Judy and Ona Lambert Judy. 

 Mr. Judy graduated from Franklin High School in 1929, attended Potomac State college, graduated from Shepherd College in 1933 and continued his graduate work at West Virginia University.  He was a retired schoolteacher, having taught for 43 years.  He was a member of the Circleville United Methodist Church, where he was superintendent for 40 years. he was a member of the 4-H All Stars and was a life member and the last surviving charter member of Spruce Mountain Ruritan Club.  

Survivors include his wife, Mabel Claire nelson Judy of Nella's Nursing Home, Elkins, and a sister, Mary Leah Cochran of Huntington.  

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Naomi Ruth Judy, and six brothers, Kerlin Judy, O. Bard Judy, J. Norris Judy and three young children.  

The Revs. Earl Bible and Stanley Kile conducted the funeral Saturday at the Circleville United Methodist church.  Burial was at the Wimer Cemetery in Circleville.

Mary Florence Bennett

Mary Florence (Rexrode) Bennett received her angel wings on Tuesday morning, Oct. 18, 2005 with her daughter Jo Ann, by her side at her home in Franklin.

Mrs. Bennett was born April 1, 1926, and was a daughter of the late Clyde Charles and Ollie Kathryn Simmons Rexrode.  

She was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.   

She was reared in Blue Grass, VA, and graduated from the old Blue Grass High School.  She was a homemaker and a framer on Snowy Mountain where she lived vefore retirement and moving to Franklin.  She was a seamstress for three years at the Franklin Garment Factory and retired from Hanover Shoe Factory in 1988 with 20 years.  She was an active member of the Walnut Street United Methodist church, Franklin, a charter member of Women of the Moose $812 and a past member of the Ladies Home Demonstration Club. 

Her husband of 61 years. Oscar Allan Bennett, survives.  They were married on April 7, 1944, in Presbyterian parsonage in Monterey, VA, by Pastor A.E. Johnson. 

Also surviving are one brother, William Clyde (Junior) and wife, Virginia Rexrode of Bluegrass, VA; one daughter, Jo Ann and husband, Charles Duran, Jr. of Upper Tract; twin granddaughters, Jennifer Ann and husband, Brian Bednarski of Martinsburg and Amy Dawn and Husband, Tim Mullienaux, both of Frederick, MD; four great-grandsons, Matthew Richard and Jason Paul Bednarski, both of Martinsburg, and Andrew Michal and Sean Ryan Mullineaux, both of Frederick, MD; four step-grandchildren, Russell Duran of Charleston, SC, Karen Duran/Knox of San Diego, CA, and Robin M. Duran and Lynn Susanne Duran/Bloeme, both of Atlanta, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.  

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ivan Carl Rexrode; and two daughters, Betty Lou Bennett and Leona Mae Bennett Kisner. 

The Rev. Stanley Kile performed services at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 22, at two o'clock with burial in the North Fork Cemetery.   

In lieu of flowers, as much as she loved them, she asked that all donations be made to Mountain Hospice, c/o Colleen Plaugher, PO Box 416, Franklin, WV  26807. 

Deborah L. Ratcliff

Deborah L. Ratcliff, 40, of Roanoke, VA, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at Lewis Gale Memorial Hospital. 

Mrs. Ratcliff was born Sept. 13, 1965, in Levels and was the daughter of Charles King, Sr., of Grottoes, VA, and Bertha Burns Simpson of Franklin. 

She attended Franklin High School.  she was a homemaker and a former manager of the Roanoke, VA, McDonald's for eight years.   

Her husband, Christopher Ratcliff, survives. 

Also surviving are a sister, Virginia Wood of Grottoes, VA, and three brothers, Charles King, Jr., of Franklin, Albert King of Broadway, VA, and Roy King of Kentucky. 

She was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Joe King. 

Pastor Dan Ludwick conducted the memorial service Tuesday at the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin .   

Myron J. Davis, 22

Myron Judah Davis, 22, of Bartow passed away Oct. 15, 2005, at Bartow. 

Born Dec. 23, 1982, at Elkins, he was the son of Roger Lee Davis of Bartow and Sharon Miller Kaylor of Dorset, OH.  

Mr. Davis spent his earlier years in Franklin. 

He was of the Catholic faith and was a convenience store manager in Kentucky.  He was also a US Navy veteran. 

Surviving, in addition to to his parents, are a brother, Israel Davis of Garettsville, OH, and a grandmother, Bonnie Sipes of Bartow. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Aaron Davis. 

There was no funeral service.

James G. Lunsford

On Oct. 13, 2005, James G. Lunsford passed away at Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, VA. 

He was born June 27, 1930, in Staunton, VA. 

Mr. Lunsford grew up in Franklin and was well noted for his musical talent.  He attended school here and was a 1948 graduate of Franklin High School. 

His undergraduate degree was taken at Shenandoah University, and he received his maters of administration from the University of Virginia.  Au successful high school band director, he was named Director of Georgetown Bands in 1963 and held that position for 20 year, while continuing to train concert and marching bands in the Washington, DC area.  In 1977, he was named music supervisor of Fairfax county Schools.  In 1984, he became music supervisor for Prince William county Schools and continued in that position until his retirement in 1988.  He was a member of Music Educators National Conference, president of the Virginia Band Directors Association and the National capital Area Wild Turkey Federation, rage officer for the Izaak Walton League and a member of Christ Presbyterian church of Fairfax, VA. 

He was the beloved husband of Janet Howard Lunsford, loving father of JoLynn Province (Ted), James g. Lunsford, Jr., (Marsha), Hal M. Lunsford, Michael S. Lunsford, (Tanya) Virginia K. Lunsford, Todd H. Bolton and Shannon Dingus (John): and a cherished grandfather. 

A funeral service was held Oct. 16 at Christ Presbyterian Church, Fairfax, VA. Interment was in Green Hill Cemetery, Mill Gap, VA.
