Arthur C. Alt

Arthur Canter Alt, 93, of Valley Bend, and formerly of Petersburg, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.

Mr. Alt was born Aug. 13, 1913, in Upper Tract and was the son of the late Kenny H. Alt and Etta Virginia Lambert Alt.

He was the retired owner and operator of Alt’s Body Shop in Petersburg. He was a member of Memorial Church of the Brethren in Petersburg and was a lifetime member of Odd Fellows 408 and the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department 400.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Rebecca Hedrick Alt of Elkins; two daughters, Rosalie Leatherman of Alamogordo, NM, and Elinor Evans of Beverly; a son, Arthur "Buddy" Alt Jr. of Valley Bend;  two sisters, Bessie Kimble of Buckhannon, and Elsie Hedrick of Petersburg; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

HE was also preceded in death by one brother, Albert Alt. 

Pastor Harold Cullers will conduct the funeral Thursday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial will be at South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens.

Carlin L. Cooper

Carlin Lorice Cooper, 59, of Hinton, VA, died Oct. 7, 2006, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Ms. Cooper was born March 27, 1947, in Hinton, VA, and was the daughter of Mabel Long Cooper of Hinton, VA, and the late Eldon Cooper.

She was a member of Mount Bethel Church of the Brethren and was employed at Marshalls in Bridgewater, VA.

Her mother is her only immediate survivor.

The Rev. John Jantzi conducted the funeral Oct 10 at Mount Bethel Church of the Brethren. Burial followed at the Mount Horeb Church Cemetery by Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Bethel Church of the Brethren, 8550 Robinson Road, Dayton, VA 22821, or a charity of choice.

Twila R. Plauger

Twila Rebecca Sites Plauger, 78, of Petersburg, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at her home.

Mrs. Plauger was born Nov. 29, 1927, in Pendleton County and was a daughter of the late Noah W. Sites and Myrtle Kessel Sites.

She retired from Petersburg Elementary School, where she had been a cook for several years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Petersburg.

Survivors include her husband, of 57 years, George V. Plauger Sr.; three sons, George V. Plauger Jr. of Beverly, Royce E. Plauger of Dorcas and Noah G. Plauger of Glen Burnie, MD; a daughter, Rebecca Johnson of Silver Spring, MD; three sisters, Pauline Mongold of Maysville, Janet Crites of Petersburg and Betty Borrell of Clinton, MD; three brothers, Donald Sites of Harrisonburg, VA, Rudy Sites of Keyser and Noah W. Sites Jr. of Raleigh, NC; nine grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Frye and Leta Nelson; and one brother, Leon Sites.

Pastor Larry M. Cantu conducted the funeral Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church. Burial was at South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg.
