Richard I. Etherton, 88

Richard I. "Red" Etherton, 88, a longtime resident of Kenton, OH, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, in Henry County Memorial Hospital, New Castle, IN. 

Mr. Etherton was born March 10, 1915 in Van Lue, OH, the son of the late Ivan and Emily Miller Etherton.  

He lived most of his life in the Kenton area and had resided in the Greens Fork, IN, for the past several months.  He served with the Navy during World War II.  He was a member of the First Christian Church of Kenton, IOOF, and Kenton Historical Society.  He was formerly  active with the Boy Scouts and was an acclaimed woodworker.  He was a former employee of Kenton Hardware Company, Swift Ohio Corp., and the Kenton School.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Boggs Etherton, formerly of Franklin ; three sons, John Etherton and wife, Sarah of Morgantown, Joe Etherton and wife, Mary of Greens Fork, IN, and Jim Etherton and wife, Debbie of Mt. Vernon, OH; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Louise Bash of Winter Haven, FL; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Grace Dyer of Franklin.  

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. October 16, in Price Funeral Home, Kenton, OH, with Pastor Rose Michael officiating.  Burial was in Grove Cemetery, Kenton, OH.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kenton Public Library or the Kenton First Christian Church.     

David J. Howdyshell, 72

David Junior Howdyshell, 72, of Lanham, MD, died March 23, 2003, at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, MD. 

Mr. Howdyshell was born August 29, 1930, at Bridgewater, VA, and was a son of the late Jesse Lewis Hodyshell and Ina Moyer Howdyshell. 

He was a retired Washington, DC., fireman captain after 23 years of service. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Methodist Church. 

Surviving are his wife, Mary Margaret Hedrick, formerly of Brandywine; three sons, David L. Howdyshell of Huntington, MD, Michael C. Howdyshell of Beltsville, MD, and Daniel E. Howdyshell of Prince Frederick, MD; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. 

The Rev. M Monroe Wright will conduct a graveside memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine.  Military graveside rites will be provided by the Combined Veteran Organizations of Pendleton county and the Sugar Grove Naval Security Group.
