Mary Rexrode Bennett

Mary Rexrode Bennett of Franklin passed away, Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at her home. 

She is survived by her husband, Oscar Bennett, and a daughter, JoAnn Duran of Upper Tract.  

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin and are incomplete at this time. 

Neva Marie Harman

Mrs. Neva Marie Harman, 80, of Solomons, MD, and formerly of Petersburg, died on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005 at Calvert Memorial Hospital, Prince Frederick, MD.

Born Oct. 30, 1924, in Pendleton County, she was the daughter of the late J.D. Riggleman and Janie (Dahmar) Riggleman. 

Mrs. Harman grew up in Pendleton county. After her husband's service in the US Navy, the couple made their home in Petersburg and raised their family.  They moved to Maryland in 1962, living in Glen Burnie, Sykesville and Solomons through the years.  Her hobbies included gardening, boating, traveling and cooking.  

On Dec. 22, 1943, she married Eulis Ford Harman, who preceded her in death.  They were married 51 years.  and one sister, Ilene Norris.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Noel of Huntingtown, MD, and Saundra K. Bouchard and her husband Aristid of Sykesville, MD; one sister, Conway (Norma) Ours of Rough Run; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Lee Funeral Home Calvert, P.A., Owings, MD, with Pastor Randall Casto officiating.   Interment will be private.

John G. Harold, 85

John Golden Harold, 85, of Maysville died Oct. 14, 2005, at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg.

Mr. Harold was born March 4, 1920, in Petersburg, and was the son of the late Robert Utah Harold and Lula June Moyers Harold. 

He was a retired carpenter and was a member of the Church of god.  

Hiswife Mellie Marie Borror Harold, preceded him in death March 9, 2005.  

Survivors include six daughters, Virginia Thorne of Dorcas, Blondena Bennett of Circleville, Betty Simmons of Franklin, Peggy Sions of Cabins, and Teresa Harold and Debra Helmick, both of Maysville; four sons, John R. Harold Sr. of Burlington, Marvin Paul Harold of Petersburg, Randy Harold of Kitzmiller, MD, and Glenn Harold of Dorcas; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Ada MarieHarold; and four brothers, Austin Moyers, Harry Graham, Homer Graham and Glen Graham.

The Revs. Chanon Mullens and Robert Borror conducted the funeral Monday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was in the Borror Family Cemetery.

Margie Rella Bennett 

Margie Rella Bennett, 85, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Center, Candler, NC.

Ms. Bennett was born in Cherry Grove and was a daughter of the late Darlie A. and Mary Elizabeth Nelson Bennett. 

She was a former resident of Baltimore, MD, where she was employed in research with the W.R. Grace chemical Research Co. from 1943 to 1986.  While there she was a member of Lansdown United Methodist Church.  After moving to Asheville, NC, she was  cared for by a niece and her husband, Linda and Oakley Reese, and became affiliated with Pole Creek Baptist Church.  

She is survived by three sisters, Hilda Gordon of Franklin, Leola Genoble of Spartanburg, SC, and Cornelia Hutchins of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Randy Bennett of Lexington, NC, and Herman Bennett of Elkton, VA; a foster brother Charles Smith of Harrisonburg, VA; a number of nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and cousins, including Olden Wilfong, Jr., of Baltimore, MD.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Violet Bennett, Sylvia Bennett, Evelyn Anderson and Mary Ruckman; a brother, Lymond Bennett; and foster parents Sterile and Ruth Smith. 

A graveside service was held Tuesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Baltimore, MD, with the Revs. William A. Herche, Jr., and Mike Johnson officiating.

Roger D. Hott

Roger Dwayne Hott, 63, of Franklin, died Oct. 12, 2005, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Hott was born Jan. 19, 1942, in Kirby, the son of Melvin Hott of Romney and the late Creola Pownell Hott. He was also preceded in death by one sister.

Hott was a U.S. Air Force Veteran from 1959 to 1963 and was a member of the VFW Post 6454, the American Legion and Franklin Moose Lodge 769.  He was a 1959 graduate of Romney High School and attended West Virginia university.  He was a member of the the Walnut Street United Methodist church.  He retired from Sports Unlimited of Petersburg and Franklin.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Ann Dunkle Hott; his son, John and wife, Teresa Hott of Franklin; one stepson, Eddie Armentrout of Franklin; two sisters, Phyllis Peters of Romney and Granis Lee of Augusta; one brother, Harlan Hott of Fayetteville, N.C.; and six grandchildren, John Michael Hott, II, Alexandra Hott, Carter Hott, Colby Hott, Martina Armentrout and Charles Armentrout. 

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Walnut Street United Methodist Church in Franklin, with Pastor Carl Tribett officiating.  The burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in  Franklin.

Memorial contributions should be sent to Pendleton County Rescue Squads or Walnut Street United Methodist Church.

Mabel V. Redman, 82

Mrs. Mabel Virginia Bell Washington Redman, 82, of Petersburg, died, Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mrs. Redman was born Oct. 15, 1922, in Hardy County and was the daughter of the late William Washington and Mary M. Cole Washington. 

She was a member of Grove Street United Methodist church in Petersburg, Grove Street United Methodist Women and Petersburg Church Women United.  She was a life member of Burlington United Methodist Family Services Auxiliary, a member of town and country Homemakers and Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary.  She was the Grant County Belle in 2002.  She was a foster grandparent for EACHS Headstart.  

Her husband, Emmitt Redman, preceded her in death in May 1985.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. 

Survivors include two sons, Kermit M. Redman of Franklin and Clarence Douglas Redman of Arthur; five daughters, Brenda L. Johnson of Waterbury, CT, Sylvia E. Saunders of Fredericksburg, VA, Pamela S. Hott of Arthur, Melodea "Peach" Eversole of Maysville and Darlene D. Dunn of Wolcott, CT; 12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one infant daughter, Mary Jane Redman; two infant twin grandsons, Jeffrey and Jarred Hott; two brothers, Garfield Washington and Omer Washington; and one sister, Leanna Twyman. 

The Revs. William Brown, Richard Longbon and Joseph Eversole conducted the funeral Sunday at Grove Street United Methodist Church. Burial  was in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg by Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg. 

The Petersburg Volunteer fire company Ladies Auxiliary held services at the funeral home Saturday evening. 

Memorial donations may be made to Grove Street United Methodist church or to a charity of choice.
