Jean Elizabeth Biby, 76, of Seneca Rocks died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. 

Mrs. Biby was born Aug. 19, 1931, in Altoona, PA, and was a daughter of the late Oliver H. Elliott and Leanor C. Stine Elliott. 

She was a homemaker and was a member of Brushy Run Church of the Brethren.  

Her husband of 46 years, Joseph Noah Biby, survives. 

Also surviving are a step-daughter, Shelva Jean Biby of Baltimore, MD; a stepson, Wayne Biby of Roseland, VA; and sister Wilma Elliott of Baltimore, MD; a brother, Jim Elliott of Baltimore, MD; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  

She also was preceded in death by a brother, William Elliott. 

The Rev. Earl Bible conducted the funeral Saturday at Brushy Run Church of the Brethren.  Burial was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery by Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Seneca Rocks Volunteer Fire Department.  

Paul R. Arbogast

Paul Robert Arbogast, 90, of Circleville died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at Loyalton of Harrisonburg, Harrisonburg, VA. 

Mr. Arbogast was born May 17, 1917, in Circleville and was the son of the late Truman "Buzz" and Eve Mae Simmons Arbogast. 

He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.  He graduated from Circleville High School in 1940 and was a deputy assessor for Pendleton County.  He was a retired farmer and had retired in 1985 as a scales operator for German Valley Lime Co.  He was Pentecostal by faith and was a member of North Fork Apostolic Church.  

On Aug. 13, 1943, he married Izetta Jewell, Canfield, who survives. 

Also surviving are three daughters, Patricia Ann Wilkins of Harrisonburg, VA, Joan Marie McConnell of Circleville and Debra Ruth Lucas of Vinton, VA; a son, James Paul Arbogast of Seneca Rocks; a sister, Nila Good of Timberville, VA; two brothers, David Arbogast and Ralph Arbogast, both of Circleville; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. 

He was also preceded in death by one brothers, Price Arbogast, and two sisters, Irma Propst Day and Mary Judy Harper. 

The Rev. Stanley Kile conducted the funeral Sunday in the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial with graveside military servcies by the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard was in North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.  

Memorial contributions may be made to Pendleton Senior and Family Services or charity of choice.  

Mary A. Hawks

Mary Alice “Putty” Hawks, 61, of Seneca Rocks, W.Va., died on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital at Harrisonburg. .

Mrs. Hawks was born on Sept. 19, 1946, in Onego and was a daughter of the late Burley and Tiny Helen Arbogast Heavener.

She was a deli cook at Macksville Mart in Seneca Rocks and attended Roaring Creek Mennonite Church. She attended Seneca Rocks Elementary School and Circleville High School.

She was married to George Abraham Hawks of Warm Springs, VA.

Survivors include three daughters, Jennifer Lea Lane of Hot Springs, VA, Jackie Lynn Hawks of Seneca Rocks, and Judy Ann Lonas of Stanley, VA; a son, Jeffrey Todd Hawks of Moorefield; a sister, Ruthie Michalides of Moorefield; two brothers, Roger Lee Heavener of Petersburg and Robert “Bobby” Borror of Huntington; and 13 grandchildren.

The Rev. Mark McAllister conducted the funeral Monday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was in the North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

Dyer Bowers, 81, of Franklin died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA.

Mr. Bowers was born April 24, 1926, in Dahmer and was the son of the late Henry David Bowers and Flossie Irene Tusing Bowers.

He worked for the Western Maryland Railroad for two years and for Monongahela Power Company for 41 years. He was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church and the West Virginia Farm Bureau Association for 32 years. He was a charter member of the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department and was a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club.

On Dec. 22, 1951, he married Dorotha Simmons Bowers, who survives.  

Also surviving are a son, Danny Ray Bowers and wife, Paula Ann Bowers of Franklin; a sister, Susie Holloway of Upper Tract; and two grandchildren, Justin Daniel Bowers and Ashley Danielle Bowers.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dolan Bowers and Stover Bowers, and one sister, Beulah Bowers. 

The Rev. Carl Tribett conducted a graveside service Tuesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin. 

Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin, were in charge of funeral arrangements. 

Mabel D. Moats

Mabel D. Moats, 81, of Staunton, VA, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at Ruxton Health Center in Staunton, VA. 

Mrs. Moats was born May 30 1926, in Moyers and was the daughter of the late Jarrett and Dane Redman Moats. 

She was a Poultry plant worker and restaurant worker.  She was a member of Moats Chapel AME Church in Moyers.

Her husband, John Jones, preceded her in death in August 1984. 

Surviving are a daughter, Sheila Washington of Waynesboro, VA; four sons, John Jones of Weyers Cave, VA, Mervin Jones of Staunton, VA, and Robert Jones and William Jones, both of Harrisonburg, VA; four sisters, Irene Moore, Patty Moats and Minnie Moats, all of Staunton, VA, and Dolly Johnson of Stuarts Draft, VA; three brothers, Arthur Moats of Norfolk, VA, Walter Moats of Harrisonburg, VA, and Le Roy Moats of Staunton, VA; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Moats and Wilbur Moats, and two sisters, Elizabeth Moore and Louise Keenah. 

The Rev. Thomas Johnson conducted the funeral Saturday in the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was in the Jarrett Moats Cemetery in Moatstown.
