Barbara Jean Wagner, 55

Barbara Jean Wagner, 55, of Monterey, VA, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at her home following a lengthy illness. 

Mrs. Wagner was born Aug. 10, 1948, in Marlinton and was a daughter of Lloyd B. Cassell of Dunmore, and the late Donna Long Cassell.

She graduated from Green Bank High School.  She was a homemaker and a seamstress at the former Aileen Garment Factory in Monterey, VA.  She was a member of the Church of God in Green Bank. 

On May 27, 1966, she married Dale Wagner, who survives.

In addition to her father and husband, she is survived by a daughter, Michele L. Kirkpatrick of Staunton, VA; two sons, Bradley S. Wagner of Monterey, VA, and Michael Dale Wagner of Staunton, VA; two sisters, Elaine Landis of Franklin, and Nancy Wagoner of Harrisonburg, VA; a half-sister Coleen Queen of Cass; a half brother, Edward Taylor or Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.   

The Rev. Tony Samons conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Monday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA.  Burial was at Blue Grass Cemetery in Blue Grass, VA.

Kate Mallow, 80

Kate Mallow, 80, of Cabins, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg. 

Miss Mallow was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Brushy Run and was the daughter of the late Kenneth Mallow and Zernie Phares Mallow.

She retired from Joan Curtis Manufacturing in Petersburg and attended the Cabins Assembly of God Church. 

She is survived by a daughter, Carol Turner, of Cabins; two sons, Dice mallow of Woodbridge, VA, and Roy Mallow of Maysville; three sisters, Julie Vance of Cabins, Margie Long, a resident of Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, and Grace Anderson of Seneca Rocks; and five grandchildren, Michael Mallow, Jeffrey Mallow, Bradley Mallow, Jennifer Mallow and Kandy Turner.  

She was preceded in death by her lifetime companion, Harry Vance, Aug. 10, 2002; an infant grandson, Christopher Ryan Mallow; an infant great-grandson, Benjamin Roy Mallow; two sisters, Mary Vance and Zula Long; three brothers, infant A. M. Mallow, Dayton Mallow and Omar Mallow.  

The Rev. Rebecca L. Bennett conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial followed at Mallow cemetery in Timber Ridge.

Catherine Lou Day

Catherine Lou Day, 66, of Cabins, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at her home. 

Mrs. Day was born Sept. 26, 1936, in Moorefield and was a daughter of the late Morris Harper and Nellie Catherine Nelson Harper. 

She was S.C.S.E.P. for the U.S. Forest Service in Petersburg for two years.

 Her husband, Hubert Fay Day, preceded her in death May 13, 1968. 

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David a. and Glenna Day of Chebanse, IL; a sister, Judy Harper of Baltimore, MD; a brother, Dean Allen Harper of Jefferson, MD; three stepgrandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. 

The Rev. Stanley Kile conducted the funeral 11 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in  Petersburg.  Burial was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton. 

Beulah Mae Bodkin, 83

Beulah Mae Bodkin, 83, of Weyers Cave, VA, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Shenandoah Nursing Home, Fishersville, VA. 

Miss Bodkin was born Sept. 22, 1920, in Sugar Grove, a daughter of the late Kennie Eli and Clara Rebecca (Simmons) Bodkin.

Prior to her retirement, she had been employed for 40 years by the Dr. Pepper Bottling company as an office manager.  She was a member of Staunton Church of the Brethren, where she was a member of the senior adult group and the Sunshine Sunday School Class. 

Family members include two nieces, Patsy "Pat" Phillips and her husband, Charles of Mount Crawford, VA, and Donna Curtis and her husband Allen of Richmond, VA, two nephews, Robert J. "Bob" Simmons and his wife Judy, of Moneta, VA, and Minor E. bodkin, Jr., "Bud" and his wife Barbara, of Collinsville, VA; a number of great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Hershel Simmons of Weyers Cave, VA; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Bodking of Staunton, VA.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Minor E. Bodkin, and a sister, Clora B. Simmons. 

A memorial service was conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Staunton Church of the Brethren by Rev. Jerry W. Ruff.  Burial was private. 

Memorials may be made to Staunton Church of the Brethren, 1615 North Coalter Street, Staunton, VA 24401.   

Arrangements were under the direction of the Henry Funeral Home.  

Janet Harper Conrad

Janet Harper Conrad, 86, of Ft. Seybert, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin. 

Mrs. Conrad was born Feb. 7, 1917, at Riverton and was the daughte of the late Wilber W. Harper and Margie E. Teter Harper. 

She attended Berea College in Kentucky and graduated from Shepherd College.  She was a  teacher at Franklin Elementary School.  she also served as West Virginia University's Extension Agent in Pendleton County.  She was a member of the Fairview-Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Church Women. During her tenure as extension agent, she created the golden Age Newsletter, which was distributed throughout West Virginia.  She was a 50 year + member of the Extension Homemakers club and was a member of the WV Farm Bureau.  She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. 

On August 17, 1938, she married William Harrison Conrad, who preceded her in death on August 7, 1997. 

Surviving are two sons, H. Stephen Conrad and his wife, Jane, of Ft. Seybert, and Dr. Daniel H. Conrad and his wife, Odessa, of Midlothian, VA; two granddaughters, Kelly Elizabeth Marsh of Pittsburgh, PA, and Dawn Suzanne Conrad of Richmond, VA; one sister, Mary Lee Eye of Franklin; and two brothers, Elwood N. Harper of Lilian, AL, and Kenneth R. Harper of Franklin. 

She was preceded in death by one son, James William Conrad, two sisters, Frieda Dunkle and Christina Harper; and four brothers, Wilbur Harper, Bardon Harper, George Harper and Paul Harper.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Fairview-Bethel United Methodist Church at Fort Seybert. 

Burial will be at the Fairview-Bethel Church Cemetery at Fort Seybert. 

Friends may call at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin, where the family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. tonight.

Virgie L. Bennett, 91

Vergie Delena Lambert Bennett, 91, of Franklin, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg. 

Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her first husband, Dennie Herman Hartman, and by her second husband, Fred Green Bennett. 

Funeral arrangements were in complete at this time and under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. 

Rebecca D. Tomlinson, 65

Rebecca Ann Dunkle Tomlinson, 65, of Lewisburg passed away Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, Charleston. 

She was born at Deer Run, November 7, 1938, the daughter of the late Newman Paul and Freida Harper Dunkle. 

Mrs. Tomlinson was a 1960 home economics graduate from Berea College, Berea, KY.  She was a teacher, licensed veterinary technician, 4-H extension agent and mother who reared her family in the Greenbrier Valley.  She was an active member of the Lewisburg United Methodist Church having served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. 

She was a 4-H pin wearer, a 4-H All Star, a member of the Franklin Chapter No. 138, Order of the Eastern Star, the Progressive community Educational Outreach Service Club, a 4-H leader for 15 years and a member of the Chapter F, PEO Sisterhood in Lewisburg. 

She is survived by three daughters, Karen Farrell and husband, Andy of Raleigh, NC, Barbara Lee and husband, Harvey of Centennial, CO, and Christine Revitte and husband, Robert, also of Centennial, CO; and one son, Dr. John Robert Tomlinson, Jr., of Lewisburg,; five grandchildren, Daniel and Ryan Farrell, Sophie and Charlotte Lee and Mary Ellen Revitte, a brother, Ralph Dunkle and wife, Sally of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lewisburg United Methodist Church.  Burial was held 4:00 p.m. in the Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract.

McCraw Funeral Home in Lewisburg was in charge of arrangements.
