Bessie M. Dove

Bessie Marie Ayers Dove,70, of Mathias died Thursday,Sept.28,2006, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA.

Mrs. Dove was born May 7,1936, in Pendleton county and was the daughter of the late John Henry and Delphia Jane Full Ayers. She was also preceded in death by a foster mother, Virginia Souder, who raised her.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of  Mathias Mennonite Church  and Damascus Church of the Brethren near Criders.

On April 6,1958, she married Olin William Dove, who preceded her in death April 23, 2005.

Surviving are three sons, Olin William Dove, Jr., and Jonathan L. Dove, both of Mathias, and Ralph E. Dove of Fisher, two daughters, Edith V. Smith and Carolyn I. Dove, both of Baker, a step-sister, Linda McKenny of Harrisonburg, VA., a brother, Roy Ayers of Timberville, VA. and 12 grandchildren.

The Revs Dean Williams and Joe Sager conducted the funeral Saturday at the Grandle Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway, VA.

Burial was in the Martin Luther Lutheran Church Cemetery in  Bergton, VA.

Frank Moats, 91

Frank Moats, 91, of Dayton, VA, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA.

Mr. Moats was born May 7, 1915, in Moyers and was the son of the late James and Elizabeth Simmons Moats. 

He was retired from the maintenance department at Bridgewater College.  HE was a member of the Dayton United Methodist Church. 

On Oct. 15, 1938, he married Bessie Lea Simmons, who preceded him in death March 24, 2005.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Ann Puffenbarger of Bridgewater, VA; a son, Jeffrey Allen Moats of Harrisonburg, VA; a sister, Fannie Starcher of Charleston; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  

The Revs. Steve Bird conducted the funeral Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Bridgewater, VA.  Burial was in the Dayton Cemetery.  

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department, 304, N. Main St., Bridgewater, VA  22812.  

Roland Rexrode

Roland Rexrode, 78, a resident of Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at the nursing home. 

Mr. Rexrode was born May 23, 1928, in Franklin and was a son of the late Acra Rexrode and Louie Alice Moyers Rexrode.  

He was a member of Walnut Street United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the Army. He retired from road construction and timbering. 

Survivors include a daughter, Amy Rolanda Rexrode of Ohio; two sisters, Evelyn Lambert and Edith Eye, both residents at Pendleton Nursing Home Franklin; and a brother Ted Rexrode of Grottoes, VA. 

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Beverly Rexrode and Bruce Rexrode. 

The Rev. Carl Tribett conducted the funeral Monday at the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.  Burial was at the Rexrode-Hoover Cemetery on Thorn Creek Road with military honors by the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.  

Junior Harper, 72

Junior Harper, 72, of Arthur died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at the Winchester Medical Center. 

MR. Harper was born May 16, 1034, in Onego and was the son of the late Mervin Harper and Alta Bennett Harper. 

He retired from General Motors in Baltimore, MD.  HE attended the Corner United Methodist Church in Cabins. 

His wife, Erma Lewis Harper, preceded him in death in 1994. 

Survivors include his former wife and mother of his five children, Nanna Harper of Baltimore, MD; four sons, Rocky Harper and Terry Harper, both of Baltimore, MD, Randall Harper of Westminster, MD, and Rodney Harper of Arthur; a daughter, Teresa Burkett of Baltimore, MD: two step-sons, James Layton and Phillip Layton, both of Baltimore, MD: a sister, Norma Helmick of Winchester, VA; a brother, Doan Harper of Harrisonburg, VA; and two grandchildren, Scott Randal Harper and Ryan Blake Harper. 

He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Blake Harper, Kermit Harper and Dale Harper; and one sister, Macel Evans. 

The Revs. Joseph Gerstell and Stanley Kile conducted the funeral Friday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.
