Homer "Frank" Widenhouse

Homer Franklin "Frank" Widenhoue, 82, of Sugar Grove and Cocoa, FL, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center, Harrisonburg, VA. 

Mr. Widenhouse was born Sept. 6, 1926, in Cabarrus County, NC, and was the son of the late Homer Widenhouse and Ploma Ferguson Widenhouse Burleyson and a step-son of Grady Burleyson.  

He was a member of the Crummett Run Church of the Brethren in Sugar Grove and was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 339 in Cocoa Beach, FL.  He had served in the U.S. Navy and U.S Marine Corps during World War II.  He was employed in Men's retail clothing for 37 years.

He is survived by a special friend, Galen Crummett of Sugar Grove; and a cousin in North Carolina. 

Pat Godfrey and Rev. Jerry Smith conducted the graveside funeral Saturday in the Crummett Run Cemetery, Sugar Grove. 

Arrangements were under the direction of the Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.  

Mildred A. Mitchell 

Mildred Alma Mitchell, 95, a resident at Pendleton Manor in Franklin and formelry of Brandywine, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at the home. 

Mrs. Mitchell was born March 27, 1913, in Circleville and was the daughter of the late LaFayette Lambert and Sarah Elizabeth Bennett Lambert. 

She retired from the Franklin Garment Company and was a member of  Calvary Lutheran Church in Brandywine. 

Her husband, Elmer Washington Mitchell, preceded her in death May 9, 1974. 

Survivors include her devoted friends and caregivers, Rose and Ken Miller of Brandywine; several nieces and nephews; one granddaughter, Judy Ann Remeikis; and one great-grandson, Danny Remeikis; and special grandchildren, Steve Miller, Lynn Crites, Nola Avey, Elise White and Cindy Huston. 

She also was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Reed Mitchell and "Elmer Mitchell; three brothers, Jeff Lambert, Green Lambert and Byron Lambert; and three sisters, Mazie Vandevander, Sylvia Huffman and Dessie Hedrick. 

Pastors Craig and Wendy Richter conducted the funeral Tuesday at Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at Pine Hill Cemetery, Brandywine.

Herbert H. Harper

Herbert Harding Harper, 87, of Seneca Rocks died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at his residence. 

Mr. Harper was born Oct. 26, 1920 in Teteron and was the son of the late Marvin J. Harper and Nanna Mae Vance Harper.

He was a member of the Seneca Rocks Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Circleville High School in 1941 and was employed by Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore, MD, from 1941 to 1944, where he operated a punch press producing steel for aluminum aircraft parts.  

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Division in the European Theater of Operations.  He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon.  He was a U.S. mail carrier for 39 years and served on the selective service board for several years. 

Mr. Harper was a member of the Pendleton Lodge No. 144 of Franklin, Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454 and Spruce Mountain Ruritan Club, where he had served as president and secretary.  He was an avid hunter. 

His wife, of 61 years, Joy Lou Morral Harper, survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Janet Lou Hedrick and husband, Jerry of Seneca Rocks; two sons, Lannie H. Harper and wife, Wanda of Seneca Rocks, and Shon L. Harper and wife, Pamela of Cabins; a step-son, Bobby G. Barkley and wife, Wanda of Seneca Rocks; three sisters, JEan Thompson of Petersburg, Peggy Hedrick of Maysville and Edith Harman of Seneca Rocks; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

The Rev. Will Vaus conducted the funeral Tuesday at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  A military graveside service was held at North Fork Memorial Gardens in Riverton by the Pendleton County and Grant County Veterans Honor Guard.

Larry M. Kisamore

Larry Mason Kisamore, 63, of Riverton died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, MD.

Mr. Kisamore was born Dec. 5, 1944, in Riverton and was the son of the late Mason Kisamore and Bessie Raines Kisamore. 

He was a retired truck driver, a farmer and worked for the Department of Agriculture.  He was a member of Riverton United Methodist Church, Pendleton Lodge No. 144 A.F.& A.M. and was a Shriner.  He graduated from Circleville.  

His wife, Letha Lambert Kisamore, survives. 

Also surviving are two daughters, Anita "Diane" Davis and husband, Teddy, of Riverton, and Jacquie Kimble and husband, Joe of Onego; a son, Kevin Kisamore and wife, Wendy, of Riverton; and six grandchildren, Seth Davis, Garrett Wilfong, Tressica Wilfong and Cameron, Clayton and Cashton Kisamore.  

He also was preceded in death by two sisters. 

The Revs. Barbara Rexroad and Stanley Kile conducted the funeral Wednesday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at North Fork Memorial Gardens in Riverton.

Bobby M. Arbaugh 

Bobby M. Arbaugh, 73, of Dayton, VA, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA. 

Mr. Arbaugh was born Aug 17, 1935, in Circleville and was a son of the late William Wimer and Clara Arbaugh. 

He was employed at Carlisle Glass in Baltimore, MD, and Harbison-Walker and AMP in Harrisonburg, VA.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of Circleville United Methodist Church.

On Aug. 14, 1971, he married Luella Colaw, who survives. 

Also surviving are a daughter, Christina Marie Arbaugh of Dayton, VA; two brothers, Tom Warner of Doe Hill, VA, and Wendell Nelson of Franklin; and two sisters, Judith Bland of Baltimore, MD, and Eleanor Hartman of Manassas, VA. 

He also was preceded in death by one sister. 

The Rev. Isaac Harper conducted the funeral Monday at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg, VA, with military graveside services by members of the Dayton American Legion.  

Memorial donations may be made to the Wildlife Center or the American Cancer Society.  

Winston Ervine, 85

Winston, Gilmer "Ruben" Ervine, 85, of Head Waters, VA, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at his home. 

He was born Dec. 19, 1922, near Head Waters, VA, a son of the late Sallie Belle Ervine. 

Mr. Ervine was an avid farmer, blacksmith, tinner, sheep shearer, woodworker and hunter.  HE rarely met a stranger.  He was a member of the Farm Bureau and an honorary member of the McDowell Volunteer Fire Department.  

His first wife, Maybelline Roxanne Varner Ervine, whom he married on Sept. 21, 1946, preceded him in death on May 30, 1977. 

His second wife, Ruby Ervine of Head Waters, VA, whom he married Aug. 12, 1978, survives. 

Also surviving are three daughters and husband, Marcia and Paul Wiseman of Harrisonburg, VA, Karen and Donnie Botkin of Head Waters, VA, and Donna and Mike Golladay of Staunton, VA; a step-daughter and husband, Patsy and Bert Moyers of Mt. Crawford, VA; six grandchildren, Heather and Todd Wiseman, Adam and wife, Alisha Botkin, Amber Botkin and Luke and Tyler Golladay; two step-grandchildren, Trina and Christopher Moyers; one step-great-grandson, Quentin Moyers; and four half-sisters, Emily Lou Bruguiere and Patricia Stevens, both of Roseland, VA, Barbara Helms of Amherst , VA, and Marjori Midkiff of Martinsville, VA. 

He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter. 

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday at Obaugh Funeral Home, McDowell, VA, with the Rev. Andre Crummett and Rev. Richard Gibson officiating.  Burial was in Head Waters Cemetery.

Nita "Kay" Richards 

Nita "Kay" Richards, 67, of Beverly died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at her home. 

She was born Aug. 16, 1941, in Mouth of Seneca and was the daughter of the late William "Bill" Painter and Martha Summers Painter.  

She retired as a forestry technician from the U.S. Forest Service.  She graduated from Circleville High School in 1959 and from Hocking Technical College in Ohio. 

Survivors include three daughters, Jill Randall of Wasilla, AK, Martha "Marty" Homer of Beverly and Rebekah Harden of Apex, NC; a son, Aaron Richards of Riverton; two brothers, Jon Painter of Zelienople, PA, and Mark Painter of Harrisonburg, VA; seven grandchildren, Stephen Homer, Sidney Homer, Katie Moriah Phares, Jennifer Fletcher, Jessica Ost, Michelle Kanosh and Caitlin Kanosh; and three great-grandchildren, Logan Fletcher, Gabriel Ost and Jaden Ost.   

She also was preceded in death by a brothers, William Waldo Allen. 

The Rev. Terry A. Burgess conducted the funeral Sept. 25 at Seneca Rocks Presbyterian Church.  Burial was at North Fork MEmorial Cemetery, Riverton.  

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care Corp., 929 S. Davis Ave., Suite D, Elkins, WV  26241.  

Arrangements were by Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.   

Mary Gorrell, 91

Mrs. Mary Talitha Davis Gorrell, 91, of Clarksburg passed away at 12:00 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at the United Hospital Center.  

She was born in Doddridge County on June 25, 1917, a daughter of the late Lorhemus Davis and Talitha Ford Davis.  

Mrs. Gorrell was a member of the Clarksburg Baptist Church and the Omega Bible Class of the church.  She was a homemaker. 

She and her husband had a camp at Lamberts in Franklin for several years. 

Her husband, Carl E. Gorrell, whom she married Nov. 17, 1940, preceded her in death Aug. 18, 2002.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Allen and Janet Gorrell of Clarksburg; two grandsons, Joshua Andrew Gorrell of Clarksburg and Jacob Adam Gorrell and wife, Amy of Rosemont; a great-grandson, Parker J. Gorrell; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers and eight sisters. 

A funeral service was held on Saturday at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, Clarksburg, with the Rev. David L. Hulme presiding.  Entombment followed in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Last Supper Mausoleum.
