Claire Thornton, 82

Claire M. Thornton, 82, of Franklin died Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, MD.

She was born in Wilmington, DE, to the late Charles H. and Marie McDermott Thornton.

She graduated from Ursaline Academy in Wilmington, DE.  She went into the nursing profession, becoming a nurse, anesthetist and acupuncturist and worked most of her nursing career in VA hospitals.

Surviving are two brothers, Gilbert J. Thornton of Salisbury, MD, and Charles H. Thornton of Fruitland, MD., and their wives; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Riverside Drive in Salisbury, MD.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Little Sisters of Jesus and Mary or Coastal Hospice.

Dinah Lynne Flint

Dinah Lynne Flint, 53, of Upper Tract passed away on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mrs. Flint was born in Baltimore, MD, on July 22, 1956.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband of 33 years, John Manuel Flint, Jr., survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Shannon Marie Flint, Upper Tract; three sons, Bruce Ballard, Roanoke, VA, Michael Ballard, Augusta, and Johnny Flint III, Huttonsville; two sisters, Robin Foster and Patsy Hoffman, both of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Russell Ermeister and Rocky Ermeister, both of Baltimore, MD; 11 grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Rev. Stanley Kile officiating.

William “Bill” Glover

William “Bill” Glover, 85, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at his residence in Franklin.

Mr. Glover was born in Franklin on March 1, 1924, the son of the late Delilah Catherine Lough (March 12, 1975) and Homer Glover, Sr. (October 25, 1972).

He was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church, the VFW and American Legion and was a World War II US Army Veteran.  He co-founded Glover Auto Supply in 1946 and B&H Hardware in 1969 and retired in 1985.

On April 6, 1952, he married Joan Dahmer, who survives in Franklin.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Joanette “Joni” Koliscak and husband, Malcolm, Cindy DiFalco and husband, Mark, and Abby Sites and husband, Paul, all of Franklin; a son, William Eric Glover and wife, Lynn of Franklin; three brothers, John S. Glover and wife, Frances, and Denny Glover and wife, Genevieve, all of Franklin, and Homer Glover, Jr., Beckley; eight grandchildren, Lindsey Koliscak, Cory Koliscak, Brian DiFalco and wife, Jamie, Andrea DiFalco, Justin Cox, Sarah Soper and husband, Jason, Ashley Harris and Kelsey Harris, and seven great-grandchildren, Mason DeFalco, Cayson Armstrong, Kirsten Soper, Jaylen Flesher, Jenna Flesher, Jubilee Soper, and Karis Soper.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis L. Glover and J. Edward Glover; and two sisters, Cornelia Glover and Wanda Sponaugle.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Rev. Kevin L. Hand officiating.

Allen Ray “Rusty” Donovan

Allen Ray “Rusty” Donovan, 60, of Cabins died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

He was born Nov. 7, 1948, in Tunnelton and was the son of the late Martha Ellen (Titchenell) Shaver.

Mr. Donovan was a US Army veteran of Vietnam War.  He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 172 of Cumberland, MD, VFW Post 6454 of Petersburg and the Disabled American Veterans.  He attended the Petersburg Church of God and Lighthouse Community Church.

His wife of 26 years, Melinda Kimble Donovan, survives.

Also surviving are three sons: Rusty Donovan and Tyrone Donovan, both of Cabins, and Harold Ray Donovan of Tunnelton; one daughter, Wanda Donovan Savage of Bruceton Mills; six grandchildren; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dorothy and Carlos Kimble of Upper Tract; a special niece, Tiffany Kimble Knight of Petersburg; two sisters: Shirley Funk of Kingwood and Mildred Williams of Breezewood, PA; and one brother, Royal Donovan of Pennsylvania.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Allen Ray Donovan, Jr.; four sisters, Lyda Cline, Nora Shaver, Mary Ann Shaver and Velma Shaver; and three brothers, Nathan Shaffer, Samuel Shaffer and Watson Shaffer.

Funeral service was held Friday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Bishop Aaron Davidson officiating.  Interment was in Maysville Cemetery, Maysville, with military honors by the VFW Post 6454 and WV Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Christopher Lewis Barr 

Christopher Lewis Barr, 46, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

He was born Oct. 10, 1962, at Jackson, MI, and was the son of the late Ralph Lewis Barr and Patricia Hamblin Barr.

He worked as a stocker at Roses Dept. Store and was a driver for City Yellow Cab.

On June 27, 1987, he married Wanda Faye Hoover Barr, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Christopher Payton Barr of Harrisonburg, VA; two half sisters; one half brother; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jim and Jane Hoover of Franklin.

Funeral services were held at Sunday at the chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with Rev. Robert Anderson officiating.

Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery at Franklin.

The family received friends from 1:00 - 2:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Linda Sue Hise, 49

Linda Sue Hise, 49, of Monterey, VA, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at her home.

She was born Feb. 14, 1960, in Hightown, VA, a daughter of Margaret Virginia (Gum) Hise of Pendleton Manor and the late William Jacob Hise.

She was a caregiver and an avid supporter of the local radio station.  She loved to read and listen to music.

Surviving besides her mother are three sisters, Judi Chandler of Manassas, VA, Sandra Burgoyne of Franklin and Betty Smith of Monterey, VA; and three brothers, James Hise of Franklin, William Gerald Hise of Rittman, OH, and Don Hise of Cass, and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, David “Bo” Hise.

According to her wishes, Ms. Hise was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
