Ruby M. Kanagy

Ruby Miley Kanagy of Belleville, PA, died Saturday Sept. 24, 2005, at Valley View Haven, Belleville, PA.

Mrs. Kanagy was born in Onego and was a daughter of the late Walter Miley and Effie Vance Miley.

She was a homemaker and was formerly employed at the Arrow Shirt FActory in Lewistown, PA.  She attended Locus Grove Mennonite Church in Belleville, PA.

On Sept. 1, 1946, she married Jonathan D. Kanagy, who survives. 

She is also survived by two daughters, Marian Hartzler of Belleville and Marilyn Schano of Gibosnia, PA; a sister, Ethel Bentch of Harrisonburg, VA; four brothers, Dale Miley of Edgewater, MD, Guy Miley and Gar Miley, both of Harrisonburg, VA, and Richard Miley of Roanoke, VA; and four grandchildren.

The Revs. Max Zook and George Yoder conducted the funeral Tuesday at Locust Grove Mennonite Church in Belleville, PA.  Burial was at Locust Grove Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Locust Grove Mennonite Church, 3358 West Main St., Belleville, PA 17004. 

Arrangements were by Baggus Funeral Home in Belleville, PA. 

James H. Glackin

James H. "Jim" Glackin, 91, of Harrisonburg, VA, and formerly of Franklin died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Glackin was born July 26, 1914, in Philadelphia, PA, and was the son of the late James Cunningham Galckin and Caroline Hauser Glackin.

He was self-employed financial investor and had attended Walnut Street United Methodist Church.

He was never married.

He is survived by a niece, Geraldine "Gerri" Lambert of Franklin; a nephew and wife, James C. and Anne Marie Glackin of Philadelphia, PA; seven great-nieces and nephews; and 10 great-great-nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Carl Tribett conducted the funeral Friday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. 

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, PA.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Salvation Army or the American Red Cross. 

Oden Lee "Son" Thompson

Oden Lee " Son" Thompson, 72, of Brandywine surrounded by his loving family, peacefully slipped into the arms of our Lord and SAvior on Monday, September 26, 2005, at his home.  This ended his courageous three-year battle with leukemia.

Mr. Thompson or "Odie" to his friends and loved ones, was born March 14, 1933, on Tract Mountain and was the youngest of 16 children born to the late George and Bessie Thompson.

On July 23, 2005, he and his wife Donna Jean Stalder Thompson, who survives, celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Mr. Thompson is survived by five children and their spouses; Johnny Lee Thompson and wife Debbie of Franklin, Kathy Thompson and husband, Steve of Grafton, Michael Douglas Thompson and wife, Lura of Cresaptown, MD, Christopher Todd Thompson and wife, Stacy of Swoope, VA, and David Lee Thompson and wife, Traci of Charleston.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Heather Thompson, AJ Ezersky, Jason Thompson, Aaron Smith, Cassie Thompson, Seth Thompson, Campbell Thompson, a, Hannah Payne and Isaiah David Oden Thompson; four sisters, Tressie Bridges and Donna Cassidy of Bridgewater, VA, Jessie Snyder of Harman and Viola Hevener of Harrisonburg, VA; two brothers; Clarence "Pum" Thompson and Paul "Chap" Thompson, both of Franklin.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Raymond "Pete" Thompson, Denver "Den" Thompson, Ona Thompson, George Thompson, Ray "Coy" Thompson and Arlie "Boss" Thompson; and three sisters, Reda Thompson Gauding, Nettie Thompson Alt, and Anna "Granny" Thompson Hedrick.   

Mr. Thompson was by trade an ironworker belonging to Union Ironworker Local 568 in Cumberland, MD.  He belonged to Christ Central Church of Upper Tract. His passion was farming and raising turkeys and cattle.  He won the following awards: Conservation Farm of the Year and 2000 Rocco Friend of the Environment.  He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting whitetail deer, elk and bear.  When not working his farm, he also enjoyed square dancing and online poker.

Funeral services will be conducted today at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffrey Thompson and Rev. Stanley Kile officiating. 

The family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude the special loving care that was provided by Jean Clark, a niece, Colleen Plaugher of Mountain Hospice and Julie Shull and Sheila Miller of Rockingham Memorial Hospital (RMH) Cancer Center. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations  be made to the Mountain Hospice, Inc., of Franklin or RMH Cancer Center, Harrisonburg, VA.

Family received friends at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. 

Raymond J. Bowers

Raymond J. Bowers, 72, of Gainesville, VA, and formerly of Franklin died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at his home in Gainesville, VA.

He was born June 6, 1933, at Thorn Spring and was the son of the late Russell and Annie Simmons Bowers.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1966.  From 1966 to 1978, he served in the U.S. Army, retiring as Chief Warrant Officer III.  From 1978 to 2001, he began and operated Town and Country Roofing & Siding in Gainesville, VA.  In 1991, he moved to Franklin, where he continued his construction business until 2001, when he moved to Winchester, VA, and in January 2005 returned to Gainesville, VA.

He was a member of the Franklin Lions Club, Franklin Ruritan Club, served as past president of the Manassas Host Lions Club and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Also surviving are three daughters, Kelly Bowers and husband, Jeff Teitel of Washington, DC, Lisa Breeding and husband, Jeff of Manassas, VA, Melanie Lewis and husband Jerry of Gainesville, VA; and three grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, Franklin with Pastors Craig & Wendy Richter officiating. 

Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin with graveside military services conducted by members of the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin.
