Olin Edwin Alexander

Olin Edwin Alexander, 85, Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin, and formerly of Upper Tract, died Friday Sept. 21,2001, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg. He had lived at the nursing home for the past 12 years.
Mr. Alexander was born Oct. 18, 1915, in Mozer and was a son o the late Sauel Edwin Alexander and Alice Ketterman Alexander.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired farmer. He was a member of the South Mill Creek Church of the Brethren.

His wife, Mildred Maude Mongold Alexander, preceded him in death in 1973.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Crites and Ressie Chavis, both of Cherry Valley, CA; two sons, Arthur Alexander, Upper Tract and Dennis Miller, Petersburg; a sister, Mayme Boatman, Cherry Valley, CA; a brother, Leason Alexander, Ceredo; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The Revs. Randy Ours and Calvin Bailey conducted the funeral at 2 p.m. Tuesday at South Mill Creek Church of the Brethren. Burial was at the Alexander family cemetery with military rites by the veteran's organizations of Grant County.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pendleton Nursing Home, PO Box 700, Franklin, 26807.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg.

 

Jennings D. Lambert, 70

Jennings Dice Lambert, 70, died September 3, 2001, at his home at Sardenia, OH.

Mr. Lambert was born to Troy L. And Elsie B. Lambert, October 10, 1930, at Dry Run, Pendleton County.

He enlisted in the US Air Force when he was 18 years old and made it his career.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha Hunt Lambert; three daughters, Debra Pierce and Wanda Conn of Pennsylvania, and Carol Guillery of New Jersey; one step-daughter, Pamela Carta, West Virginia; three sons, Jennings Jr., of West Virginia, Robert of California, and Michael of New Jersey; three step-sons, David Ramirez and William Tyree, both of Califronia, and Robert Tyree in the US Navy; five sisters, Evelyn Allen, Virginia Bargar, Etta K. Shifflett, all of Maryland, Wilda G. Bennett, West Virginia, and Christina L. Kisamore of Virginia; one brother, Forrest R. Lambert, West Virginia; grandchildren; great grandchildren; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both his parents, two sisters, Clara M. Lambert and Geraldine Lambert, an infant.

He was cremated. A memorial service was held at Jennings Randolph Lake Park on Sept. 8.

 

Zadah L. Lafferty, 52

Zadah Lorene Lafferty, 52, Franklin, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at her home following a sudden illness.

She was born Aug. 16, 1949, in Mullens and was a daughter of the late Arnold Foley and Bertha Reeder Foley of Frnaklin. She was a former nurse and lived most of her life in Stephenson.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, John Manning, Mount Airy, NC, and Howard Wesley Lafferty, Jr., Stephenson; a daughter, Melissa Ann Lafferty, Harrisonburg, VA; two brothers, Paul Foley, Mocksville, NC, and Roy Foley, Franklin; two sisters, Betty Perry Franklin and Linda Perry, Tomahawk, KY; and three grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in deat5h by a daughter, Christina Laxton.

Pastor D. Adkins conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley. Burial was at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.

 

Roy Dayton Armentrout

Roy Dayton Armentrout, 84, Franklin, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at his residence.

Mr. Armentrout was born Dec. 9, 1916, in Kline and was a son of the late Charles Dayton Armentrout and Eva Janie Harman Armentrout.

He retired from Curtis Chevrolet GM as a certified mechanic where he had worked from 1966-1981. He was a veteran of World War II with the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Pendleton Lodge AF&AM #144 and was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church.

On Aug. 30, 1947, he married the former Olive Ruth Dove, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Brenda Haas, Harrisonburg, VA; a sister, Shirley Ours, Dorcas; three brothers, Harman Armentrout, Baltimore, MD Clyde Armentrout, Kline, and Loy Armentrout, Mechanicsburg PA; and one granddaughter, Olivia Haas, Harrisonburg, VA.

The Rev. Thom Malcolm will conduct the funeral today at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin.

A military graveside service will be conducted by the Veterans organizations of Grant County. A Masonic graveside service will be conducted by Pendleton Lodge #144 AF&AM.

The family received friends Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Pendleton County rescue squads.
