Norma Nelson,  79

Norma Nelson of Franklin died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA. 

She is survived by her husband, Granville Nelson of Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin. 

Funeral arrangements under the direction of Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin, were incomplete at press time.  

Normal F. Giles Faust

Norma Faye Giles Faust went to be with our Lord Aug. 6, 2006. 

She was born in Knoxville, TN, the daughter of the late Albert Eugene Giles and the step-daughter of Eleanor Lawrence Giles Stutler, who survives at Lost Creek.

She graduated from Circleville High School with the class of 1946.  She retired with over 40 years as a licensed LPN. She was a member of the Northside Baptist church, Talladega, AL.  

Her husband, Edward Faust, preceded her in death.  

Surviving are her first husband, Garland Teter; three daughters, Donna Faust Curlee, Elah Faust Henry and Deana Faust Canada; two sons, Garland "Butch" Teter and Edward Faust; and five half sisters, Bettie Giles Ford, Sharon Giles Perry, Judith Giles Metheny, all of Wet Virginia, and Debra Giles Catena of Maryland. 

She was entombed at the Pine Hill Memorial Park, Talladega, AL.

Melvin VanMeter Jr.

Melvin Jr. VanMeter  71, of Franklin, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006 in Mozer.

Mr. VanMeter was born May 31, 1935, in Maysville and  was the son of the late Claude and Angie Davis VanMeter. 

He was a retired timberman and carpenter.  

His wife, Maxine Adah Eyers VanMeter preceded him in death by his wife, April 5, 2006. 

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn C. Heavner of Moorefield and Phyllis Marie Heavner of Maysville; five sons, Paul J. VanMeter, Dale W. VanMeter and Shawn VanMeter, all of Maysville, Dennis E. VanMeter of Antioch and Michael VanMeter of Caldwell, OH; three brothers, David VanMeter of Maysville, William VanMeter of Burlington and Everett VanMeter of Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

the Rev. Gary Phillips conducted the funeral, Saturday in the chapel of  the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial was in the Cherry Hill Cemetery, Upper Tract.

Mary Patricia Bocchicchio, 71, of Monterey, died suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006.

Mrs. Bocchicchio was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, by the late Harry Ernst and Catherine Jeffords Ernst along with her three surviving brothers Harry of South Plainfield NJ, John (Jack) of Wall, NJ, and Eustace (Jim) of Brooklyn, NY.

Her loving and ever enthusiastic spirit will be forever cherished by her husbandof 50 years, Benedict Bocchicchio of Monterey, Va, her four sons, Kenneth of Trabuco Canyon, CA, Clifford of Virginia Beach, VA, Keith of Elizabethtown, PA, and Benedict III of Cary, NC, her daughter-in-laws, Lori, Sue, and Linda, and her grandchildren, Kathryn, Megan, Michael, Steven, Sarah and Allie. 

She will also be lovingly remembered and desperately missed by her entire extended family, Dario and Mayure Flores DeVilchez, Ausi, Ruben, and their families of Valencia, Venezuela.  

she met her husband, Ben, while hitchhiking to a dance in 1955, and they were married the following year.  They have called Brooklyn, NY, Bernardsville, NJ, Langhorne, PA, Petersburg, Ashland, VA, and Monterey, VA, all home. 

The Bocchicchios started their life together in Brooklyn, NY, where their first threes ons, Ken, Cliff and Keith, were born.  They moved to Bernardsville, NJ, where they resided for two years.  The followed Ben's career to Langhorne, PA, where Benedict, III, was born.  they resided there for 19 years and developed many life-long friends.  They again followed Ben's career with Virginia Electric Power Company to Petersburg, Ashland, VA, and finally Monterey, VA, where they have lived for 17 years. 

In all of the places she called home, she made many friends and the friends she made she kept.  She had the uncanny knack of remembering everyone's birthday and anniversary.  She was forever writing cards and notes and she was the glue that kept family and friends together. and informed of this and that.  

Everyone who knew Mrs. Bocchicchio knew her as a person of great energy and passion. After her family and friends, her great passion was treasure hunting for antiques. She owned and operated High Valley Antiques, and she was known from Maine to Florida and Virginia to California as an avid collector.  She knew the location of every antique store in every place she ever visited and never allowed her husband to drive past a yard sale without stopping to look for treasures. If she was late in arriving, it was because there were yard sales between her start and her destination.  Friends or other antique collectors had only to mention that they were looking for an item and she was on the hunt.  Mrs Bocchicchio passion for collecting , which she jokingly called her sickness, spread to her family and friends.  

Mrs. Bocchicchio's life was about service.  She tirelessly served her church, St. Andrew's of Newtown, PA, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton of Franklin, her community and the many people she met and called friends. Her life is an inspiration and in her own way, she made the world a better place than the way she found it.  

A public viewing will be held at Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Franklin.  A reception will be held in her honor following the service. 

Contributions in her honor will be accepted by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, P.O. Box 390, Franklin, WV.

Stover Lee Puffenbarger, 72, of Sugar Grove died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at his home.

Mr. Puffenbarger was born Dec. 15, 1933, in Sugar Grove, W.Va., and was the son of the late John Harrison and Maude Jane (Hoover) Puffenbarger.

Mr. Puffenbarger was a member of Brushy Fork Full Gospel Church.  He had worked in construction.

On Aug. 31, 1957, he married Ella Susan Pennybacker, who preceded him in death Dec. 9, 1993.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Freeman and Cathy Puffenbarger of Sugar Grove; a granddaughter, Miranda Simmons and her husband, Daniel of Franklin; three great-grandhcildren, Tristan, Austan and Kenzie Wagoner; three sisters, Bertha Shank of Mount Solon, VA,  Leafy Simmons of Sugar Grove and Lou Emma Smith of Harrisonburg, VA; three brothers, Johnny Puffenbarger of Harrisonburg, VA, Archie Puffenbarger of Mount Solon, VA, and George Puffenbarger of Spring Creek, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by a daughter, Mary Sue Puffenbarger on July 21, 2006, and a brother.  

A graveside service was conducted Monday at the Puffenbarger family cemetery by the Rev. William Strickler.

Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA, was in charge of funeral arrangements. 

Paul Lawrence Hedrick, 64, of Franklin died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.

Mr. Hedrick was born May 12, 1942, in Ruddle and was the son of the late Oliver Hedrick and Florence Lawrence Hedrick.

He had worked at the Bath County Dam Project and was a farmer. He was a member of the Franklin Seventh-day Adventist Church.

On Jan. 10, 1972, he married Mary Jane Simmons Hedrick who survives.  

Also surviving are two daughters, Kathy Walters of Petersburg and Vicky Mauzy of Franklin; two sons, Douglas Hedrick of Petersburg, and Oliver Hedrick of Brandywine; five sisters, Frances Halterman, Shirley Thompson, Ruby Crown, Loveain Warner and Sarah Smith, all of Franklin; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one sister. 

Pastor Gary Hampton conducted the funeral Wednesday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin, W.Va. Burial will be at Ruddle Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Franklin.
