Mary A. Bennett

Mary Ann Bennett, 21, of Weston and formerly of Circileville, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at STonewall Jackson Hospital in Weston of an apparent heart attack. 

Ms. Bennett was born Jan. 29, 1986, in Petersburg and was the daughter of Wilbur H. Nelson of Elkins and JoAnn Bennett of Circleville. 

She attended Circleville Elementary School. 

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Robert and Shirley Harold Bennett of Circleville, and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. 

The Rev. Rob Borror conducted the funeral Sunday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at the Borror Family Cemetrery in Landes.

Dessie F. Hedrick

Dessie Florence Hedrick, 92, of Franklin died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.  

Mrs. Hedrick was born Oct. 28, 1914, in Zigler and was the daughter of the late Lafayette and Sara Elizabeth Bennett Lambert. 

She was a homemaker and a member of the Franklin Seventh-Day Adventist Church. 

Her husband, Leslie "Brown" Hedrick, preceded her in death Oct. 2, 1976.

Surviving are a daughter, Bertha Estie Bowers of Franklin; a son, Ona Green Hedrick of Franklin ; sister, Mildred Mitchell of the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin; a grandson whom she raised, Stanley Hedrick of Harrisonburg, VA; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-grandchildren.   

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Byron Lambert, Green Lambert and Jeff Lambert; one sister, Sylvia Mae Huffman; and one half sister, Mazie Vandevander. 

Pastors John Ott and Wyink Shelton conducted the funeral Sunday in the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.  Burial was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pendleton County Rescue Squad or Pendleton Senior and Family Services.  

Mildred D. Ramby 

Mildred D. Ramby, 81, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, at Pendlton Nursing Home in Franklin. 

Mrs. Ramby was born Feb. 2, , 1926, in Deer Run and was the daughter of the late A. Wesley Dunkle and Retta Hiser Dunkle. 

She was a hotel elevator operator in Toledo, OH, and had been a housekeeper.  

Her husband, John Ramby, preceded her in death. 

Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews, including her closest niece, Wilma Boyette of Franklin. 

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin and Herbert Dunkle; and two sisters, Leah Cowger and Lois Weiss. 

Pastor Mark James Conducted the funeral Tuesday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at the Dunkle Cemetery near Franklin.  

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. 

Edwin Lester Kile

Edwin Lester Kile, 88, of Cabins, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Kile was born Sept. 10, 1918, in Harrisonburg, VA, and was the son of the late Charles and Louise Huffman Kile. 

He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a retired farmer.  He was a tannery worker at Howes Leather Co. in Durbin and was member of Seneca Rocks Presbyterian Church.

His wife Mabel Nelson Kile, preceded him in death May 3, 1972. 

Survivors include five daughters, Ann Weaver of Charleroi, PA, Patricia Mallow and Carolyn Bogan, both of Onego, Clara Thompson of Maysville and Bernice Lambert of Petersburg; 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by one son, Lester Kile Jr., and seven brothers, Jesse, Mason, Berlin, Curtis, Elmer, Robert and Harry Kile.

The Revs. Nelson Heatwole and. Steve Landis conducted the funeral Friday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was at South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens with military honors by the Grant County VFW 6454 and the Jr. ROTC.

Nancy Mongold, 67

Mrs. Nancy Leta (Ratliff) Mongold, age 67, of Dorcas died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.

She was born April 11, 1940, in Mozer, she was the daughter of the late Perry and Lena (Kesner) Ratliff. 

Mrs. Mongold was a member of the Rough Run Church of the Brethren.  

Her husband of 52 years, Edward Russell Mongold survives.  

Also surviving are one son, Edward Anthony Mongold of Raleigh, NC; three daughters, Sylvia J. Keplinger, Adeline B. Westfall and Mary Ann Hedrick all of Petersburg; three sisters: Genevieve May of Maysville, Hazel Simmons of Franklin and Vada Mallow of Upper Tract; one brother, Homer Ratliff of Baltimore, MD; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth R. Mongold; four brothers, Chaney Ratliff, Arthur Ratliff, Olin Ratliff and Glenn Ratliff; and two sisters, Erslie Whetzel and Ethel Alt.

Funeral services were held Friday at Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with Pastor Randy Mongold, the Rev. Lynn Rohrbaugh and Jimmy Stump officiating. Interment was in the Mongold Family Cemetery, Dorcas.

James E. Eckard, 85

James Erasmus Eckard, 85, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Clinic in Martinsburg. 

Mr. Eckard ws born Aug. 22, 1922, in Sugar Grove and was the son of the late Frank and Ida Fleisher Eckard. 

He was a veteran of World War II and was a lifetime member of Sugar Grove VFW Post No. 9666.  He retired from Kawneer Manufacturing in 1987 and was a member of the Muhlenberg Lutheran Church.

On March 24, 1951, he married the former Charlotte Faith Smith, who survives. 

Also surviving are one son, James Galen Eckard and wife, Patricia of Singers Glen, VA; two grandchildren, Joshua and Micah Eckard of Singers Glen, VA; and two sisters, Sarah Oakes, Midway, TN, and Virginia Rhine of Greenville, TN. 

 Pastors Dave Nelson and Joe Vought conducted a memorial service Sunday afternoon at the Muhlenberg Lutheran Church in Harrisonburg, VA.  Burial was private.

Mary L. Marsh 

Mary Louise Marsh, 74, of Brandywine died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin. 

Mrs. Marsh was born July 13, 1933, in Washington, DC, and was the daughter of the Thomas Parker and Rosalee DeGeorgio Bridgett Parker. 

She graduated from St. Francis High School in Washington, DC.  She was a homemaker and was a member of the CAtholic church. 

Her husband, Welby "JR" Adolph Marsh, survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Wendy Marsh of Brandywine and Victoria Tayman of Camarillo, CA; five step-daughters, Cheryl Johnson of Brandywine, Donna Long of Rawley Springs, VA, Terry Shanholtz of Bridgewater, VA, Robin Spalding of Charles Town and Tina Houser of Shepherdstown; a brother Paul Parker of North Carolina; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.   

The Rev. Giles LaVasseur conducted a memorial service Friday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Franklin.  Burial was at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine.

Arrangements were by Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.
