Cynthia Jane Warner, 81, of Cherry Grove, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at her residence.

Mrs. Warner was born in Circleville on Nov. 23, 1927, the daughter of the late Pinkney Jones and Cora Ann Cook Nelson.

Her husband, Arvil William Warner, preceded her in death on April 5, 1995.

Mrs. Warner attended Teter Gap Elementary School, was a mother and homemaker and a member of Circleville Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Teresa L. Mauzy and husband, John of Churchville, VA, and Lois Ann Warner of Cherry Grove; four sons, Charles Warner and friend, Teresa of Franklin, Allen Warner and wife, Karen of Cherry Grove, Frank Warner and friend, Brenda of Caldwell, and Carl Warner and wife, Caron of Circleville; a sister, Mary Wilfong of Roanoke, VA; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by, a son, Danny Warner; nine brothers, Bill Cook, Johnnie Nelson, George Nelson, Paul Nelson, Pinkney Nelson, Jr., Hansel Nelson, Jacob Nelson, Glenn Nelson and Hayden Nelson.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Circleville Presbyterian Church with Pastor Sam Harper officiating. Interment was in North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton.

Memorials may be made to the Circleville Presbyterian Church or North Fork Rescue Squad.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.

Melvin Ralph Simmons, 83, of Glen Burnie, MD, passed away Sept. 1, 2009, at his residence.

Born at Cherry Grove on Feb. 8, 1926, he was the son of the late Ralph and Mabel Tichenor Simmons.

Mr. Simmons graduated from Franklin High School in 1944, and upon graduation, he entered the US Navy. After receiving a medical discharge, he attended Potomac State College in Keyser and West Virginia University, where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in 1950. He worked for the federal government until he retired in 1981.

Surviving are two children, Debra Denise Cavanaugh and husband, David of Owings Mills, MD, and Gregory Melvin Simmons and wife, Leslie of Reisterstown, MD; five grandchildren, Rachel, Angela and Ashley Cavanaugh and Heather and Chelsey Simmons; long time companion, Doreen Tyler; one brother, Vernon Simmons and wife, Ruth of Franklin; two sisters, Charlene Hubbard and husband, Bob of Kensington, MD, and Lula Belle Morton and husband, Paul of Franklin; one sister-in-law, Hazel Simmons of Cherry Grove; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edgar Simmons; and two infant sisters, Mabel Arlene Simmons and Charlotte Louise Simmons.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday in Linthicum, MD, where he was laid to rest.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Singleton Funeral Home, Glen Burnie, MD.

Tressie Mae (Mallow) Sites, 92, of Cabins, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, in Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

She was born July 11, 1917, in Onego and was the daughter of the late Jason Mallow and Della Susan (Phares) Mallow.

Mrs. Sites was a cook for the 4-U Restaurant in Seneca Rocks for 20 years and was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church.

Her husband of 63 years, Harman W. Sites, survives.

Also surviving are a foster daughter, Annabelle Harper of Cabins; one sister: Dovie Ruth Hedrick of Harrisonburg, VA; two foster grandsons, Ricky Lynn Helmick and Randy William Helmick; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two foster grandchildren, Ranson Dean Sherman and Beverly Ruth Helmick; four brothers, Wilbur Mallow, Charles Mallow, Richard Mallow and James Mallow; and two sisters, Goldie Kisamore and Mary Dice.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Pastor Barbara Rexroad officiating. Interment was in North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton.

Donnie Lee Sites, 63, of Linville, VA, died Aug. 30, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Sites was born Sept. 21, 1945, in Franklin and was the son of the late Perry L. and Laura Jane Propst Sites.

Mr. Sites recently retired from James Madison University and was currently employed part time with Custom Deliveries. He was an avid hunter and fisherman with a great love for the outdoors. He loved his family and pets dearly. He attended the Maranatha Church of God.

On March 1, 1964, he married Juanita Orebaugh, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Richard L. Sites and wife, Connie of Broadway, VA; four sisters, Evelyn Judy of Strasburg, VA, Linda Lyons and husband, John of Shenandoah, VA, Mary Sites of Hinton, VA, and Jesse Hartman of Franklin; and two grandchildren, Ashlee Adair Sites and Brandon Hunter Sites.

The Revs. Roger Chandler, Roger Austin and Richard Early conducted a memorial service Thursday at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, Harrisonburg, VA. Burial was private.

Charlie H. "Bub" Crummett, 80, of Hilliard, OH, passed away, Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009.

He was the son of the late Charlie and Eliza Crummett.

He was a US Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Kaiser Machine Work after 47 years of service and was a member of Hilliard Church of Nazarene.

His wife Ruth Crummett, preceded him in death.

Surviving are children Larry W. (Sharon) Sickels, Sue (Bob) Wachtler and Rick (Ann) Crummett, Sr.; a sister Martha (Charles) Hottle; two brothers Ernest (Marion) Crummett and Galen Crummett; a brother-in-law, Charlie (Sandy) Worley; grandchildren Rachel Smith, Matthew Dalton, Cindy L. Vincent, Robert H. Wachtler, Beth Chaffins, James Wachtler, Katie Wachtler, Ricky Crummett, Jr., Amanda Crummett, Derick Crummett, Rick Helmick, Jr., Bill Helmick and Rachel Jarvis; great-grandchildren, Heather Kerr, Alysa Deeter, Autumn Vincent, Casey Chaffins, Belle Chaffins, Jacob Smith, Hunter Dalton, Benjamen and Madeline Wachtler, Karissa, Siera, Kalista and Will Helmick; and numerous loving relatives and staff friends at Hilliard Home Town Buffet.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Rose Worley.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Tidd Funeral Home, Hilliard, OH, with Rev. Malcolm R. Schoener officiating. Interment was in Sunset Cemetery.

Sylvia Marie (Elyard) Evans, 94, of Petersburg died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, in Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

She was born Sept. 2, 1915, in Franklin and was the daughter of the late Charles Elyard, Sr., and Clara (Moyers) Elyard.

Mrs. Evans was a homemaker and a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church, Petersburg.

Her husband, Daniel L. Evans, preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 1972.

Surviving are two daughters, Marcia M. Evans of Buford, GA, and Clara E. Foley and husband, Lawrence of Romney; four grandchildren, John Evans, Jennifer Evans, Shan Foley and Stacy Foley Jeran; six great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Ann (Winters) Evans of Winchester, VA; and one brother, Samuel Elyard of Clarksburg.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, John Lee Evans and Gary Elyard Evans; three sisters, Katherine McGhiey, Georgia Williams and Elsie Hoover; and two brothers, Charles Elyard, Jr., and Stanley Elyard.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Rev. Steven C. Rhodes officiating. Interment was in Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or to a charity of choice.
