Daisy Aldridge, 79

Daisy Mae Aldridge, 79, of Cumberland, MD, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at WMHS Memorial Campus Hospital.

Mrs. Aldridge was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Upper Tract and was a daughter of the late Verly Clay Westfall and Grace Sarah Shook Westfall. 

She was a homemaker.  She enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing and was a Methodist by faith.  

Her husband, George O. Aldridge, preceded her in death March 18, 2002. 

Survivors include two brothers, Leroy Westfall of Harrisonburg, VA and Lawrence Westfall of Moorefield; a sister, Betty Wimer of Milford, DE, and a number of nieces and nephews. 

The Rev. Betty Kennedy conducted the funeral Wednesday at Adams Family Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberalnd, MD.  Burial was at Hillcrest memorial Park.

Anna L. Self, 62

Anna Lee Self, 62, of Petersburg and formerly of Burlington died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at the home of her sister, Carol Ellifritz. 

Mrs. Self was born Aug. 22, 1943, in Petersburg and was a daughter of the late Alfred C. Ellifritz and Kathleen Rebecca Swick Ellifritz. 

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Keyser.  

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alvin C. Mullins, Sr., in 1986 and her second husband, Jimmie V. Self, in 2003. 

survivors include two sons, Alvin c. Mullins Jr. of Pound, VA, and Curtis W. Mullins of Burlington; a daughter, Patricia A. Scott of Beaver Dam, KY; two step-sons, Jimmie V. Self, Jr., of Burlington and Olie E. Self of Petersburg; four sisters, Carol S. Ellifritz and Charlotte "Becky" Mullins, both of Petersburg, Trela Kay Lucas of Cumberland, MD, and Barbara Jean Sponaugle of Circleville; a brother, Gerald Ellifritz of Moorefield; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  

She also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara Lee Mullins, and an infant brother, Alfred C. Eliffritz, Jr.

The funeral was conducted Friday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg with Elder Wesley R. Ehlers officiating.  Burial was at south Branch Memorial Gardens in Petersburg.    

Arla E. Sponaugle

Alra E. Sponaugle, 90, of Franklin died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at Rockingham memorial Hospital in harrisonburg, VA.  

Mrs. Sponaugle was born July 24, 1915, in Dahmer and was a daughter of the late john and Estella Dickenson Dahmer. 

She was a homemaker and a babysitter.  She was a member of the Franklin Presbyterian Church. 

On Oct. 17, 1936,, she married Percy Carl Sponaugle, who preceded her in death July 15, 1955. 

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Judy of Castleton, VA, and Patsy Sponaugle of Louisville, KY; three sisters, Ella V. Mullenax, Elvira Crummett and Jenny A. Vandevander, all of Franklin; a brother, Johnny Arvin Dahmer of Franklin; two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. 

She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy Verona Pitsenbarger and Estella Rose Dahmer. 

The Revs. Kevin Hand and Donald S. Wilkinson conducted the funeral Friday at the Franklin Presbyterian Church.  Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.

Osborn Rawlings, Sr., 80

Osborn Aquilla Rawlings, Sr., of Port Deposit, MD, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005.  He had lived in Franklin for 10 years.

Mr. Rawlings as born Feb. 9, 1925, in Woodensburg, Baltimore, MD, and was a son of Estey Violet Osborn Rawlings of Westminster, MD, and the late Asbury Aquilla Rawlings. 

He was a World War II veteran, deployed upon the USS Mississippi from 1942-1944 and the USS Taylorfrom 1944-1946.  He served in the Navy, Pacific Theater from August 1942 to February 1946, ranking 2nd Class Water Tender. 

Mr. Rawlings was a truck driver for Shipley Transfer, O'Boyle Tank Lines and Tri-State Motor Transit.  He retired from Burger Meister Bell in 1986. He was a member of Borin, Gamber and Reisterstown Fire Departments, Parkville and Reisterstown American Legion Posts and Reisterstown Moose Lodge.

On Dec. 9, 1948, he married the former Naomi Edna Smith, who preceded him in death in 1981.  On March 10, 1986, he married the former Linda Jean Gates, who survives. 

Also surviving are four daughters, Koren Fae Rawlings-Vance of Franklin, Maria Lynn Smith and husband, Carroll of Perry Hall, MD; Naomi Elizabeth Williamson and husband, David of Edgewood, MD, and Kim Michelle Smith and husband Ron of Port Deposit, MD; a son, Osborn Aquilla Rawlings, Jr., and wife, Mary Diane of Joppatowne, MD; a sister, Mary Anna Rawlings of Westminster, MD; a brother, A. Douglas Rawlings and wife, Mary Ellen of Westminster, MD; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.  

He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruth Anne Rawlings  in 1954. 

Mr. Rawlings donated his body to medical science.  A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Pleasant Grove Methodist church Cemetery, Pleasant Grove, MD. 

Memorial contributions may be made to a veterans association.  

Sherry Stoops Evans

Sherry Denise Stoops Evans, 40, of Circleville, formerly of Lake Washington, Washington, died at her home Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, after a 13-year battle with cancer. 

Mrs. Evans was born Dec. 18, 1964, in Parkersburg and was the daughter of Thomas (Larry) and Carolyn Spence Stoops, who survive. 

She was a homemaker and a mother.  She graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1982.  She was a member of Pendleton county LSIC Committee at Circleville, a Sunday School teacher at Vienna Baptist church, and an inspirational speaker for Relay for life and other organizations.  She attended Riverton United Methodist church and Vienna Baptist Church. 

In addition to her parents, she is also survived by her husband Paul Randal "Randy" Evans; a son, Zachary Paul Evans of Circleville; a daughter, Kaci Alaine Evans of Circleville; two brothers, Tom Stoops and Shane Stoops and his wife, Angie, all of Parkersburg; grandmother Irene Spence; grandfather, Lawrence Stoops; and several aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, George Spence, and paternal grandmother, Maxine Stoops. 

Rev. Barbara Rexroad will conduct a memorial service at Riverton United Methodist Church on Sunday, Sept. 11 , at 2:00 p.m.

the family requests that memorial donations be made to American Cancer Society or Mountain Hospice, Inc., 605 N. Main Street, Franklin, WV  26807.
