Dorothy Ann Labanich

Dorothy Ann Labanich, 63, of Upper Tract, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, at her home.

She was born Sept. 19, 1942, in Newark, NJ, and was a daughter of the late Stanley Frank and Anna Wisniewski Dziekowski. 

She was a retired certified nurse's aide at Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.  

Survivors include her companion, Steve Noordzy of Upper Tract, three daughters, Andora "Ann" Hamilton of Riverton, Michelle Georgette Vandevander of Dewey, IL, and Elizabeth Susan Sheyka of Bayville, NJ; a son, Michael Labanich of Farmingdale, NJ; three sisters, Teresa Quinn of Ashville PA, Frances Galarza and Carol Heinold, both of Florida; and four grandchildren, Chralena, Nadine, Jolene and Dillon.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley, Joey and Frankie Dziekowski and one sister, Jeanette Nina Laboy.

Rev. Mario R. Claro conducted the funeral Sunday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was in the North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton. 

Ruth S. Dunkle

Ruth S. Dunkle, 84, of Franklin died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at her home.

She was born Nov. 1, 1921, at Moyers, a daughter of the late Harry Arthur and Nancy Rebecca (Rexrode) Stone. 

On June 6, 1942, she married L Stanley Dunkle, who preceded her in death on jan. 16, 1969.  

She was the last member of her immediate family. 

Mrs. Dunkle was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist church.  She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Jo Pitsenbarger of Franklin, with whom she resided, and Sue and her husband, Joe Laskey of Marlinton; ; four granddaughters, Jodi Pitsenbarger of Franklin, Billie Jo Crites of Louisa, VA, Bobbie Jo and her husband, Kevin Kesecker of Gambrills, MD, and Stephanie Miner of Keyser; five great-grandchildren, Zachary Crites, Katelyn and Hannah Keseceker, Anthony Haggerty and Emily Mayhew; and a number of nieces and nephews.  

She was also preceded in death by hers on, Leon Dunkle, on Oct. 16, 1977, an infant daughter of Jan. 24, 1947, five brothers and three sisters. 

A funeral service was conducted Monday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA, with Pastors Carl Tribett and David Boger officiating.  Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.

Orville R. Smith, 68

Orville R. Smith, 68, of Bement, IL, died Aug. 29, 2006, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL. 

born March 23, 1938, at Sugar Grove, he was the son of the late Roy and Mertie Grogg Smith. 

He was a member of First Christian Church in Bement, IL.

On March 12, 1960, in Cascade, MD, he married Susan Van Vleet Smith, who survives. 

Also surviving are three daughters, Sharon Wiegel of Mahomet, IL, Rebecca Critchfield of Frederickstown, OH, and Kelly Smith of Bement, IL; one son, Thomas Smith of Bement, IL; seven grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; two brothers, Ona Smith of Hammondsport, NY, and Donald Smith of Bridgewater, VA; and three sisters, Leta Billiot of Louisiana, Evelyn Varner of Sugar Grove and Patricia Sacra of Mt. Sidney, VA. 

Also preceding him in death were one son, one daughter, two brothers and three sisters.   

Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Christian Church, Bement, IL, with Rev. Art Woolley officiating. Burial was in Lake Fork Cemetery, Rural Atwood, IL.

Josie D. Trumbo

Josie Dolly Trumbo, 93, of Franklin, died Aug. 30, 2006, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg.

Mrs. Trumbo was born Aug. 22, 1913, in Onego and was the daughter of the late Walter and Polly Ritchie Dolly. 

She was a teacher retiring from Pendleton County Schools after 42 years.  She attended the one-room Boggs School on Smith Mountain, Franklin High School, St. John's Academy in Petersburg, Shenandoah Academy in Dayton, VA, Shepherd College, Davis and Elkins college, Columbia University in New York City, NY, and completed post-graduate work at Madison College (now James Madison University).  She was a charter member of Seneca Rocks Presbyterian Church and the Onego-Seneca Rocks Extension Club.  She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Served on the board of directors at Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin.  She attended Franklin Presbyterian Church.  

She leaves a legacy of love, joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, goodness, faithfulness and gentleness. 

Her husband, George Cleveland Trumbo, Jr., preceded her in death Feb. 5, 1996. 

Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Bates of Vienna, VA, and Josephine "Jo" Jordan of Fairfax, VA; two grandchildren, George Bates and Glenda Bates.

Also preceding her ind eath were two brothers, Hugh Dolly and Earl Dolly. 

The Revs. Kevin Hand and Paul O'Gorek conducted the funeral Monday at Franklin Prebyterian Church, Franklin. Burial was in the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield. 

Memorial contributions may be made to local church of choice or Pendleton Nursing Home. 

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.

Alice A. Cooper, 89

Alice Agatha Cooper, 89, of Pendleton county Nursing Home, Franklin, and formerly of Moorefield, passed away SAturday morning, Sept. 2, 2006, at the nursing home. 

Born January 27, 1917, in Hardy County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel L. and Mary B. (Buckley) Clower.

Her husband, Emmanuel Cooper, preceded her in death. 

Mrs. Cooper had been a resident of the Pendleton county Nursing home since May of 1997. 

Surviving are a sister, Mary Catherine "Kate" Raines of Grant County  Nursing Home, Petersburg; a niece; and several nephews. 

She also was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday at the south Branch Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, with Pastor Calvin Bailey officiating.
