Annabelle Berg, 73

Annabelle Berg, 73, of Maysville, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 29, 1933, in Smoke Hole and was the daughter of the late Grant Isaac VanMeter and Esta Pearl (Nelson) VanMeter.

Mrs. berg was a member of CAbins ASsembly of God Church. 

Her husband, Emory Willis "Sam" Berg of Maysville, survives.  

Also surviving are three daughters, Brenda J. Armistead and husband, Bobby of Moorefield, Sharon S. Heavner and husband, Elvin of Maysville and Susan A. Thorne and husband, Mike of Cabins; four grandchildren, Cheryl Wolfe and husband, Chris, Lisa Barb and husband Lawrence, Kevin Heavner and wife, Lindsey, all of Maysville and Heather Sites and husband, Jaret of Cabins; three great-grandchildren, Sierra Barb, Lance Barb and Layne Heavner; two sisters: Audrey F. Clark of Great Cacapon and Debra L. VanMeter of Cabins; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Chapman; and three brothers, Charles Ottis VanMeter, Kermit S. VanMeter and Earl Junior VanMeter.

Funeral services were Sunday at Cabins Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Mike Humphrey and the Rev. Joseph Eversole officiating. Interment was in Barger Cemetery, Jordan Run Road, Maysville.

Funeral services were under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg.

Freeman Puffenbarger, 48

Freeman Lee Puffenbarger, 48, of Sugar Grove died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at his home. 

Mr. Puffenbarger was born Feb. 18, 1959, in Harrisonburg, VA, and was the son of the late Stover Lee and Ella Susan Pennybacker Puffenbarger.  

He worked at Tenneco Automotive in Harrisonburg, VA, and was an avid hunter and fisherman .  

His wife of 27 years, Cathy Puffenbarger, survives.  

Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Miranda and Daniel Simmons of Sugar Grove; two grandsons, Tristan and Austan Wagoner; a granddaughter, Kenzie Simmons; a special aunt, Mary Pennybacker of Sugar Grove; and mother-in-law, Lois Varner of Churchville, VA. 

The Rev. Calvin Bailey conducted the funeral Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA.  Burial was in the Puffenbarger FAmily Cemetery.

Selena M. Smith, 79

Selena Margaret Smith, 79, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at Harrisonburg, Helath and Rehab. Center. 

She was born Sept. 16, 1927, in Pendleton and was the daughter of the late Dave Carson and Verna Wimer Smith. 

In her retirement she loved taking care of children.  She had worked in the housekeeping department at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA, for many years. 

Her surviving family include cousins, Faye McNett, Lora Lee Young, Linda Knox, Margaret Thomas and Cam Wimer, and numerous other friends and extended family.  

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by a brother, Guy Smith, and a sister, Ann Belle Smith. 

A graveside service will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Horeb Cemetery in Hinton, VA.

Larry Wayne Champ

Larry Wayne Champ, 49, of Upper Tract, died Thursday, Aug. 30, in Petersburg.

Mr. Champ was born July 5, 1958, in Petersburg and was a son of Shirley Ratcliff of Upper Tract and the late Coy Adam Champ. 

He was employed by Allegheny Wood Products for 10 years and was a member of the CHurch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day SAints.  He attended Franklin High School 

His wife, Joyce Elaine Mauzy Champ survives. 

In addition to his mother and wife, survivors include two daughters, Marissa Nicole Champ at home and Maria Slate of Louisiana; two sons, Lucas Champ and Zachery Champ, both of Bridgewater, VA; three sisters, Teresa Sponaugle and Elaine Champ, both of Franklin and Darlene Sue Longtin of Spotsylvania, VA; three brothers, Steve Champ of Upper Tract, Adam Champ of Franklin and Bill Champ of Cabins; and one grandson, William Slate.

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Richard "Ricky" Allen; and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Cynthia Ann.

Elder David Hartman conducted the funeral Monday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was at Bowers Cemetery (Jake Hill Road) in Upper Tract.

Phyllis Johnson, 59

Phyllis Morral Johnson, 59, of Harrisonburg, VA died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, VA. 

Mrs. Johnson was born on July 8, 1948, in Rockingham County, VA, and was the daughter of the late Burrel W. and Ruby Huffman Morral, formerly of Onego area.

She was a 1967 graduate of Turner Ashby High School.  She worked at Lowes for many years and was also a homemaker.  She was a member of Vision of Hope United Methodist Church, formerly known as Mount Sinai United Methodist Church.  She also enjoyed working with the Morral family genealogy, fishi9ng and spending time with her family and friends. 

She is survived by her husband, Paul D. Johnson, whom she married March 15,1 968. 

Also surviving are one son, Michael D. Johnson and wife, Karah of Mount Crawford, VA; one daughter, Tamela Durrett and husband, Robert of Harrisonburg, VA; four grandchildren, Katelyn Johnson, Ethan Durrett, Nessah Johnson and Seth Johnson; two brothers, Richard "Buzz" Morral and Johnny Morral, both of Dayton, VA; four sisters, Adaline Hilbert of Hanover, PA, Mary Lee Ewing and Donna Chandler, both of Harrisonburg, VA, and patsy Londeree of Staunton, VA; numerous nieces and nephews; and close friends and cousins, Bonnie Miller and Greg Adamson.  

Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Rife. 

Pastor David M. Burch conducted a funeral service on Aug. 25, 2007, at Kyger Funeral Home, Harrisonburg, VA.  Burial followed at Mount Sinai Cemetery.
