Bessie Hevener, 95

Bessie Myrtle Hevener, 95, of Harrisonburg, VA, died August 27, 2004, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. 

Born March 2, 1909, in West Virginia, she was the duaghter of the late Martin Dow and Rachel Ann Graham Calhoun. 

She graduated from St. John's Academy in Petersburg and Shenandoah College.  She moved to Pleasant Valley, VA, 50 years ago from West Virginia. 

She was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church.

 On June 11, 1930, she married Paul Hevener who preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1980. 

Surviving are three children, Anna L. Crites of Bel Air, MD, Nancy Wallace of Fairfax, VA, and Paul R. Hevener of Roanoke, VA; two brothers, Olin Calhoun and Quinton Calhoun of West Virginia; a sister Kate Alt of West Virginia; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. at the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, near Upper Tract, on Tuesday.  Burial was in the Kline Cemetery, near Upper Tract. 

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of  the Lindsey Funeral Home, Harrisonburg, VA. 

Bonita Chiasson, 56

Bonita Belle "Bonnie" Lutz Chiasson, 56, a resident of Seneca rocks departed this life Sunday morning, Aug. 29, 2004 at her home at Onego due to end stage multiple sclerosis.  She had been in declining health for several years. 

She was born June 16, 1948, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Robert Lewis  Lutz and Marie Dodd Lutz.  

On July 3, 1983, at Elkins, she was married to Robert "Bob" Chiasson, who survives at Onego. 

Also surviving are one brother, Timothy "Tim" Lutz, Hurricane.

Mrs. Chiasson lived in Elkins until she graduated from Elkins High School with the Class of 1966.  She worked her way through college at the University of Texas at Austin, TX, and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in 1972.  She took a position as advertising manager with the National Association of Home Builders.  She worked on the Association's publication "NAHB Journal/Scope" and worked on the transformation of that publication which was relaunched as Builder Magazine in May, 1978. She served as advertising manager for Builder Magazine for several years.  she was a former member of the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at Elkins, and in 1983 she became a member of the Saint Brendan Catholic Church at Elkins. 

She was diagnosed with "Exacerbating-Remitting" Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 1983.  The MS Took a severe turn for the worse in 1987 after which she suffered a continuing slow decline.  After a few years her MS diagnosis was updated to "Chronic-Progressive."

In 2002, her husband retired from the federal government and the couple moved from Northern Virginia to a new house which they had build on property they had long owned about four miles west of Seneca Rocks.  The couple greatly enjoyed the beautiful views, closeness to nature and wonderful neighbors that surround their mountain home.   

At the request of the family there will be no visitation. 

Final rites will be conducted at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home, Elkins, on Saturday at 10 a.m. the Reverend Father William Anderson will be the presider, and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins.

Earl Nelson, 74

Earl "Pee Wee" Nelson, 74, a resident of Elkins departed this life Wednesday, August 25, 2004, at Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown.  Death was attributed to cardiac arrest. 

Mr. Nelson was born Tuesday, April 29, 1930, at Simoda, near Spruce Knob, a son of the late Albert Solon Nelson and May Kile Nelson. 

He attended the one-room Mt. Joel School at Simoda, was a well-known carpenter, was an expert cabinet maker and woodworker, attended the Irons Chapel Church at Pheasant and the Moore United Methodist Church at Moore and was a former member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge at Montrose.

On Jan. 14, 1951, at Oakland, MD, he was married to the former Mary Johanna Hedrick, who survives. 

Also surviving are one son, Mark Nelson, Carrboro, NC; two daughters, Patricia Ann Kittle and husband, Richard of Elkins, Tammie Elaine Thompson and husband, Richard of Elkins; five brothers, his twin Burrell Nelson and wife, Betty of Harrisonburg, VA, Granville Nelson and wife, Norma of Franklin, Bruce Nelson, Harrisonburg, VA, Troy Nelson and wife, Shirley of Covington, VA, and Sam Nelson and wife, Lilo of Tacoma, WA; and four grandchildren.   

 Preceding him in death besides his parents, were one son, Johnnie Lee Nslson; five brothers, Mason Bennett, Robbie, Mason, Clifton and Abraham Nelson; and one granddaughter. 

Final rites were conducted at the Lohr and Barb Funeral Home Chapel, Elkins, on Sunday with the Reverend Terry Cannon and the Reverend Walter H. Blough officiating.  Interment followed at the Parsons Family Cemetery at Shaver's Fork.
