Paul Vandevander

Paul Junior Vandevander, 82, a resident of the Pheasant Run Community, Kerens, went home with the Lord, Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 22, 2006, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.

He was born Febr. 21, 1924, at Osceola, a son of the late Edward Isaac and Willa Chloe Armentrout Vandevander.  

Mr. Vandevander was a Veteran of the United States Marie Corps, serving during World War II. He was disabled having been a collision repairman and a member of the Operators and Engineers Union. He was a farmer and in 1979 he became one of the first paramedics in Tucker County. He was Past Master of Pythagoras Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. of Parsons, The Scottish Rite and the Osiris Temple of Wheeling. He was an active member of the Irons Chapel Church.

On Sept. 29, 1945, at Harman, he was married to the former Edith Rosetta Thompson, who survives at Kerens.

Also surviving are two sons and four daughters, Nancy Marie Kalar and husband Joe, Kenneth Edward Vandevander and wife, Wanda, all of Kerens, Pauletta Ramsey and husband, Brad of Parsons, Benny Jay Vandevander and wife, Maureen, Norma Gay Channell and husband, Gary, and Rebecca Sue Arbogast and husband, Cletus Ray, all of Kerens; one brother, Delbert Vandevander; two sisters, Ethel White and Catheryn Ruddle; 13 grandchildren, Jody and Billy Kalar, Kevin, Tim and Jason Vandevander, Heather, Dan and Erin Ramsey, Debbie Lawrence and Mike Vandevander, Bryan Channell and Amy Barrett and Adam Arbogast; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Stanford; two sisters, Wanda and Pauline; and one great-grandson, Noah Michael Vandevander.

Final rites were conducted at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday with the Rev. J. Michael Lantz officiating.  Interment followed in Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion and the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War conducted full military rites and the Masonic Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. of Parsons conducted Masonic graveside rites.

Jessie V. Grady, 82

Graveside services for Jessie V. Grady, 82, of Newark OH, were held Aug. 25, 2006, at the Newark Memorial Gardens with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. 

Mrs. Grady died Monday, Aug.21, 2006, at her home in Newark, OH.

Mrs. Grady was born April 15, 1924, in Smoke Hole to the late Harry and Floda (Shreve) Alt. 

She is survived by her son, Jack (Rosalie) Grady of Newark, OH; three grandchildren, Monty, Grady, Amanda Ryan and Somya Grady; three great-grandchildren, Draven Johnson, Nichole Ait Oudhia and Danielle Bush; three great-great-grandchildren, Andrew Bowman, Crissa, Cyrira and Christopher Anderson; and a sister, Judith Dean of Maryland. 

She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ora, two brothers and four sisters.

Edgar Cunningham, 90

Edgar V. Cunningham, 90, of Middlefield, OH, died Saturday, August 26, 2006, at Cleaview Lantern Suites.

He was born Nov. 17, 1915, in Circleville, the son of the late Edward J. Cunningham and Amanda Vandevander Cunningham.  

He married Dorothy G. Antonides on June 28, 191, who proceeded him in death may 10, 2006.  

Mr. Cunningham was self employed farm drainage contractor.  He was a member of Wester Reserve Lodge #507 F an AM, Al Koran Shrine, Alpha Chapter #44 Order of the Eastern Star, Odd Fellows Ravenna Lodge #65, Enterprise Grange of Mesopotamia, Scout Master of Bloomfield Troop 73, BSA, member of the Ohio Land Improvement Contractors Association and a graduate of the Virgil Overholt Drainage School 

Surviving are four sons, Martin Cunningham of Grave City, OH, Jim Cunningham of Colebrook, OH, Donald Cunningham of Mesopotamia, OH, and Tom Cunningham of New Lyme, OH; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. 

He was also preceded in death by two brothers Ralph W. Cunningham and Herbert P. Cunningham and four sisters, Ruth V. Plath, Winona R. Lucik, Evelyn Mae Fish and Mildred K. Majeck. 

Services were held at the Fairview Cemetery Chapel Wednesday.  Interment was at Fairview Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions be made to The American Cancer Society and or The American Bible Society.
