Gene L. Thompson, 73

Gene L. Thompson, 73, of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital. 

Mr. Thompson was born May 4, 1930, in West Virginia and was the son of  Emmett Thompson and Effy Lambert Thompson. 

He was a Electrician-IBEW Local 306, a member of Free and Accepted Masons, Loyal Order of Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles, VFW, Am Legion. 

Surviving is a wife, Doris Bowe Thompson, and two brothers, Worth H. Thompson, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Jack H. Thompson, WEst Virginia. 

Funeral services will be conducted at the North Fork Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, August 30 at 11 a.m. with a memorial service by Pendleton County Honor Guard, officiated by their chapter.

Basagic Funeral Home of Franklin was in charge of arrangements.  

Vida Juzefa Brown, 60

Vida Juzefa Brown, 60, of Pasadena, CA, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2003, at her home.  

Mrs. Brown was born May 2, 1943 in Lithuania and was the daughter of Juzefa Gedmintas and the late Antanas Strazdas. 

She settled in Roselle, NJ, after fleeing from the Soviet occupation.  She learned English and went to school, receiving a B.S. from Georgian Court University.  She began a career as an analytical chemist when she met her lifelong husband and partner, Frank Rosser Brown, III, who survives. 

Also surviving are four sons, Frank Brown, Christopher Brown, Jonathan Brown and Scott Brown. 

Graveside services will be conducted Friday, August 29, at 11 a.m. at the Queens-Meadow Point Cemetery, Keyser.

Broscoe Arbogast

Broscoe Arbogast, 90, of Franklin, died Sunday, August 24, 2003, at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin. 

Mr. Arbogast was born January 11, 1913, near Monterey, VA, and was the son of the late Jesse Arbogast and Kate Fleisher Arbogast. 

He was a farmer and a security guard at Sugar Grove Naval Radio Station.  He had worked at several sawmills, Vepco Dam, and retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways in 1978.  He was a member of the former Harper's Chapel United Methodist Church. 

His wife Jessie Lambert Arbogast, preceded him in death November 13, 1975. 

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ora Black Kesner Arbogast, whom he married September 10, 1987; three stepson, Craig Kesner of Morgantown, Dan Kesner of Morgantown, Dan Kesner of McLean, and Chris Kesner of Stuarts Draft VA; a sister, Esther Vandevander of Franklin; a step grandson, Carrington Kesner and a number of nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. 

The Rev. Stanley Kile conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pendleton Nursing Home Equipment Fund, Pendleton County Rescue Squad or a charity of choice.  

Sterlie Lee Mullennex, 73

Sterlie Lee "Sterlie" Mullennex, 73, of Woodbridge, VA, and formerly of CAbins, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at the Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge, VA. 

Mr. Mullennex was born Sept. 12, 1929, in Harman and was the son of the late Kenneth Mullennex and Elva Cunningham Mullennex.

He drove a fuel oil truck for Southern States Petroleum for 25 years and was a member of World of Life Assembly of God Church in Springfield VA and pastored Smoke Hole Assembly of God Church for a few years.  He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War. 

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Norma Nelson Mullennex. 

In 1962 they moved to Virginia. 

Also surviving are three daughters, Shirley Donaldson of Abbottstown, PA, Esther Walter of Lake Ridge, VA, and Anita Means of Manassas, VA; a son, Gary Mullennex of Leesburg, VA; three sisters, Sara Goldizen of Petersburg, Gail Hedrick of Alliance, OH, and Mildred Kimble of Arthur; four grandchildren, Monica, Jacque, Heather and Todd; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by one sister, Nellie Mullennex.

The Rev. Dan Thompson conducted the funeral 10 a.m. Friday at Word of Life Assembly of God Church in Springfield, VA.  

A military graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at South Branch Memorial Gardens in Petersburg with military rites by the combined veterans organization of Grant County and the JROTC.

Memorial contributions may be made to Word of Life Assembly of God Church, 5225 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA  22151. 

Arrangements were handled by Mountcastle Funeral Home in Dale City, VA, with local arrangements by the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. 

William E. Ritchie, 59

William E. Ritchie, 59, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Saturday, Aug, 23, 2003 at his home. 

Mr. Ritchie was born January 12, 1944, in Dayton, VA and was the son of Lottie Blosser Ritchie of Harrisonburg, VA, and the late Graydon C. Ritchie Sr. 

Mr. Ritchie was a lifetime resident of this area and a member of the St. James United Methodist Church, the Woodmen of the World, and worked for over 25 years at the Packaging Corporation. 

On August 8, 1970, he married Peggy Anne Clarke, who survives. 

Also surviving are two daughters, Angela Miller of Mount Crawford, VA and Brenda Ritchie Morris of Harrisonburg, VA, a child raised in the Ritchie home, Kurt Haas of Goochland, VA; three grandchildren, Aerial Ritchie, Alannah Vandevander and Brandon Vandevander, step-mother, Wilda Ritchie of Hinton; one brother Graydon Ritchie, JR.; one half brother , Richard Ritchie; two sisters, Sandra Ritchie Bennington of Harrisonburg, VA and Vickie Tutwiler of Bridgewater, VA; one half sister, Barbara Hamilton of Franklin.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at the St. James United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert L. Haley and Rev. John Peters.  Burial followed at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
