Martha Hall, 81

Martha Louise Hall, 81, of Keezletown, passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital Harrisonburg, VA.

Mrs. Hall was born March 10, 1930, in Brandywine, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Lon Wilson and Mary Viola Simmons Vandevander.

She came to the Valley from Brandywine in 1942 and was a member of the Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren where she was active in the women’s fellowship and sang in the church choir. She loved to camp and was active with Spotswood Camp-N-Aires and Family Campers & RVers. She worked at the Old Southern Bakery and Metro Pants until retirement.

On Oct. 30, 1953, she married Benjamin Franklin Hall, who survives.

Also surviving are sons, Benjamin F. Hall Jr. and wife, Tammy, Dayton, James W. Hall and wife, Linda, Mount Crawford, Timmie L. Hall and wife, Julie, Lacey Spring; sister, Roseneath J. Siple of Lacey Spring; grandchildren, Connie Roberts, Abby Hall, Emma Hall, Allison Hall and Sydney Hall; step-grandchildren Leroy Cave, Cory Cave and Tony Cave; great-grandchildren, Jeff Vandevander and Jason Stokes; and a great-greatgrandchild, Jeff Vandevander Jr.

She was preceded in death by a son, Sheldon L. Vandevander and wife, Kay; two sisters, Hazel Hottinger and Dessie Vandevander; brothers Raymond Vandevander, Charles Vandevander, Wilson Vandevander, Jimmy Vandevander and Bobby Vandevander; and a great-grandson, Jeremy Stokes.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, at Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Henry Elsea and Sheldon Whitmore officiating.

Clarence Turner, 61

Clarence “Darrell” Turner, 61, of Stony Bottom, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at his home.

Mr. Turner was born March 6, 1950, in Marlington and was the son of the late Lester “Stoney” and Geraldine “Gerry” Gum Turner of Pendleton County.

He was a former member and president of the Cass Fire Dept. And Rescue Squad, member of Local #132 operating engineers for 25 years, a public safety officer for over 30 years with Showshoe and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

His wife, Teresa Lough Turner, survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Jannessa Turner of Stony Bottom; two sons, Justin Turner and wife, Erica of Stony Bottom and Wyatt Turner of Nashville, TN; one brother, Lester Marvin Turner and wife, Pam of Cass; one adopted sister, Patricia Long of Slaty Fork; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service was held Saturday at the Alexander Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Bush and Rev. Dan Arbogast officiating.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Arbovale was in charge of arrangements.
