Margaret Vance    

Margaret Vance, 93, of Seneca Rocks, died Friday, August 19, 2005, at Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin. 

She was born March 6, 1912, at Macksville and was the daughter of the late Eddie Nelson and Anice Vandevander Nelson. 

She was a homemaker and a caregiver.  She was Methodist by faith. 

In 1930, she married French Vance, who preceded her in death in 1962. 

She is survived by two daughters, Alice Huffman of Seneca Rocks and Mary Widanka of Toledo, OH; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. 

Funeral services were held Monday at the Seneca Rocks Presbyterian church at Seneca Rocks with Rev. Harvey Vance and Rev. John Oldman officiating.  Burial was at the Sites Cemetery at Seneca Rocks. 

Memorials may be made to the family.  

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin.  

Frank S. Knicely, 88

Frank Shank Knicely, 88, of Harrisonburg, VA, died August 21, 2005, at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA, where he had been a patient since Thursday. 

Mr. Knicely was orn on Jan. 29, 1917, in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Joseph L. And Bertha Shank Knicely. 

He spent his life in the Harrisonburg, VA, area.  He worked as a carpenter with his brother-in-law for 14 years and then worked for Service Oils for 32 years until his retirement.  After retirement, he worked as an attendant in the parking area for Crestar Bank. 

Mr. Knicely was a member of the Golden Age Senior Citizens in singers glen, VA.  He was an active member of the Weavers Mennonite Church. 

On April 8, 1939, he married the former Ruby Burkholder, who preceded him in death on June 1, 1997  On February 14, 1999, he married Ruth Phares Ketterman, formerly of Pendleton County, who survives.  

Also surviving are a son, Fred Knicely and wife, Phyllis of Harrisonburg, VA; two step-sons, Allen Ketterman and wife, Donna Jo, and Richard Ketterman and Loretha, all of Harrisonburg, VA; three grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. 

Pastors Jeff Kauffman and ken DeWitt conducted a memorial service Wednesday evening at the Weavers Mennonite church.  A private graveside service was held earlier at Weavers church Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the McMullen Funeral Home, Harrisonburg, VA. 

CMDR Jessie Ross, 58

CMDR US Navy (Ret.) Jessie C. Ross, 58, of Burke, VA, died June 19, 2005, at his home. 

CMDR Ross served as Lieutenant Commander of the Naval Base in Sugar Grove from August 1981 to July 1984. 

After retiring from the navy with 26 distinguished years of service, CMDR Ross worked for ITT Industries. 

Surviving are his wife, Hariette Ross; his father, Colie Ross; one daughter, Jeni Avrams-Williams of Indiana; three sons , Jeff Ross of Atlanta, GA, Guy Ross of Burke, VA, and Greg Ross of Charleston, SC; four grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Landrum; and one brother, Mike Ross.  

 A funeral service with full military honors will be held at for Myer Old Post Chapel on Monday, Aug. 29, at 9 a.m.  Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
