Beulah Mae Murphy, 84

Beulah Mae Murphy, age 84, of Philippi, and formerly of Flemington, passed away Saturday morning, Aug 3, 2002, at the home of her son Robert Murphy, with whom she made her home for the past two years. She was born September, 1917, in Franklin, a daughter of the late Clarence O. and Elsie Lough Hartman, Her husband Jessie Virgil Murphy, passed away July 14, 1994.

She is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Jerry and Carol Murphy of Ripley, Robert and Anna Murphy of Philippi, Karen White of Philippi; six sisters, Sylvia Hammer of Franklin, Virginia (Ginny) Spitzer of Timberville, VA, Treva Kimble of Harrisonburg, VA, Elsie Warner of Manassas, VA, Thelma Mallow of Franklin, and Patsy Mennicke of Harrisonburg, VA; four brothers, Kenneth Hartman of Broadway , VA, Clarence Hartman of Franklin, Marvin Hartman of Brandywine , and Billy Hartman of Manassas, VA; and two aunts, Aunt Helen Baker of Peru, IN, and Aunt Arvea Pritt of Keyser; one friend Besse Haddix of Philippi; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Johnnie Murphy, one great-granddaughter, Misty Dawn; and two brothers, Ona Hartman and Raymond Hartman.

Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker and had lived in the Flemington Community, Baptist Hills, for 54 years and two years in Philippi; a member of the United Brethren of Franklin and attended the Teens for Christ, Philippi.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Carnegie Funeral Home with Brother Marvin Brown officiating. Burial was in the Flemington IOOF Cemetery.

 

Betty R. Tracy, 74

Betty Rae Tracy, 74, of Princeton, died Saturday, August 17, 2002, at her residence.

She was born August 2, 1928 at Cherry Grove and was a daughter of the late Ray and Sybil Wyant Heavener.

She is survived by her husband Keith P. Tracy.

Mrs. Tracy owned and operated Betty's Beauty Shop in Durbin and was a Methodist by faith.

In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters, Diane Hoover, Green Bank, and Barbara Ball, Charleston, SC; one sister, Imogene Ellis, Staunton, VA; one brother, Ferrell Heavener, Cherry Grove; and one grandson, Bradley Ball, Charleston, SC.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra Greathouse; and one sister Joy Colaw.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, August 21, at 2:00 p.m. at the Heavener family cemetery at cherry Grove with Rev. Stanley Kile officiating.

Arrangements were by Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
