Robert Bruce Hinkle Jr., 88, of Petersburg, and formerly of Riverton, W.Va., died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Hinkle was born May 4, 1920, in Simoda, and was the son of the late Robert Bruce Hinkle Sr. and Sarah Vandevander Hinkle.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Riverton United Methodist Church. He attended Circleville schools.

Survivors include his wife, Lona Rebecca Harper Hinkle; a daughter, Norma Heinrich and husband, Lawrence, of Petersburg; a son, Leland Dice Hinkle of Huntsville, AL; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one great-great-grandchild; one stepgrandchild and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Michael Hinkle; and two sisters, Eva Thompson and Arveda Hinkle.  

Pastor Barbara Rexroad conducted the funeral Wednesday at Riverton United Methodist Church. Burial was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin, was in charge of arrangements. 

Memorial donations may be made to any volunteer rescue squad.

Patricia Diane Pazdric, 49, of Grottoes, VA, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mrs. Pazdric was born June 3, 1959, in Summit Point and was a daughter of the late Rev. Boyd W. Moats and Hazel Virginia Moats Cubbage.

She worked in the shipping department at Marshalls in Bridgewater, VA,  for 12 years and attended Word Ministries in Harrisonburg, VA.

Her husband, Frank Pazdric, survives. 

Also surviving are a daughter, Kosha Williams of Grottoes, VA: a son, Shawn Henry Khristion Williams of Grottoes, VA;  eight sisters, Genevieve Mitchell of Killeen TX, Della Mae Redman of Franklin, Cornelia Virginia Moore of McGaheysville, VA, Darlene Barrow of Moyers, Arlene Williams of Stuarts Draft, VA, Dorthea Nelson of Fishersville, VA, Linda Woodson of Richmond, VA, and Karen Juarez of Mount Jackson, VA; six brothers, Allen Moats, Joseph Boyd Moats and Frank Moats, all of Moyers, and David Moats, Bobby Moats and Ricky Moats, all of Grottoes, VA; and one grandson, Nekahi Isai STrother of Grottoes, VA. 

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, a baby boy and Richarde Andrew Moats; and three sisters, Louise Moats, Anna Payton and Betty Moats. .

The Rev. Sam Barrow conduct the funeral Saturday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at the Moats family cemetery in Moyers.

James Linwood “Pap-paw” Mines, 75, of Dayton, VA, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA. 

He was born May 7, 1933, in Bath County, VA, a son of the late Brock Henderson and Anna Belle (Riley) Mines.

Mr. Mines retired from Brockway Plastics as a shipping foreman with 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul Independent Lutheran Church. He farmed with his son, Tim and loved his family. He was an avid fan of “The Clover Hill Bucks.”

On June 11, 1952, he married Helen L. Moats, formerly of Moyers, who survives. 

Also surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Claude Reedy of Doe Hill, VA, Patsy and Bill Gray of Bridgewater, VA, Jackie and Karl Slye of Harrisonburg, VA, and Tammy and Bobbie Mongold of Mt. Valley, VA; two sons, Tony Mines of Dayton, VA, and Tim Mines of Singers Glen, VA; six grandsons; seven granddaughters; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Terry of Fort Worth, Texas and Dorothy Swords of Caldersport, PA, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Mines and Justin Curtis “J.C.” Mines, four brothers, Isaac, Joseph, Andrew and Frank Mines, and a sister, Nellie Davis.

A funeral service was conducted Saturday, Aug. 9, at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA, with the Rev. Jerry Smith and the Rev. Karl Slye officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ivan Roy “Amby” Thompson, 63, of Cabins, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Grant Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Thompson was born Feb. 28, 1945, in Riverton, and was a son of the late Roy Thompson and Iva Jane Bennett Thompson.

He graduated from Circleville High School in 1963 and was a member of the Petersburg Church of God. He was employed at Germany Valley Lime Plant, Mount Storm Power Station and retired from Pilgrim’s Pride in Moorefield, in 2006.

Survivors include a daughter, Amy Huffman of Maysville; four sisters, Nancy Ann Bergdoll of Moorefield, Ollie Jane Judy of Cabins, Susie Mae Hicklin of Riverton, and Donna Marie Thompson of Petersburg; two brothers, Robert John Thompson and Riley Warren Thompson, both of Petersburg; and two grandchildren.

Pastor Aaron A. Davidson conducted the funeral Tuesday at the Petersburg Church of God. Burial was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, was in charge of arrangements.
