Lillian C. Johnson

Lillian Catherine Johnson, 89 of Cherry Grove, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2010, at the Pendleton Manor in Franklin.

Ms. Johnson was born on September 2, 1920 in Cherry Grove, the daughter of the late John and Arlena “Lena” Lambert Mick.

She was married to Kermit Johnson, who preceded her in death on December 20, 1988.

She was a graduate of Circleville High School, a charter member of North Fork Rescue Squad and a member of Circleville Presbyterian Church.  She was a retired Keypunch Operator at the University of Maryland and was also an LPN.

Ms. Johnson is survived by two sons, Rodney Johnson of Circleville, and Leo Johnson of Franklin; two sisters, Hope Estes and husband, Carson of Culpepper, VA, and Olive Simmons and husband, William of Cass; one brother, John Mick and wife, Rosalee of Ft. McCoy, FL; three  grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tammy; three brothers, Dona Nelson, Eugene Mick and William Hubert Mick; and three sisters, Levine Mick, Mary Colaw and Bonnie Wimer.

Rev. Craig Richter officiated the funeral services on Wednesday, August 10.  Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.  Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin, was incharge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Pendleton County Rescue Squad.

Betty Jean Pennington

Betty Jean Arbogast Pennington, 77, a resident of Elkins, departed this life peacefully August 7, 2010, at her home.  She had been in declining health for several months.

She was born Sept. 20, 1932, at Cherry Grove in Pendleton County, the youngest daughter of the late Don and Icie Teter Arbogast.

On December 12, 1957 at Red House, MD, she was married to Thomas Edward “Eddie” Pennington, who preceded her in death January 2, 1981.

She was employed as a secretary for the former Keim Agency in Elkins, Nella’s Nursing Home, Inc., and Western Maryland Credit Union.  She and her late husband were the owners and operators of Eddies Auto Sales in Elkins.  She enjoyed dirt track racing with her husband and they were the owners of Eddies Race Team for several years, until his untimely death in 1981.  She also enjoyed playing bingo and watching TV.

Surviving are one son, Thomas E. “Tommy” Pennington and his fiancé Shelia Cross, of Elkins; and one grandson, Deven Cross, of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, Guy Arbogast and wife Karen, Earl Arbogast and wife, Daisy, all of Elkins, and Carl Arbogast of Alliance, OH; several nieces and nephews; and two very special friends Sharon Mitchell and Rose Skidmore.

Preceding her in death were four brothers, Delbert, Hoy, Dremis and Coy Arbogast; and four sisters, Elva Arbogast, Cynthia Hackett, Bonnie Smith and Rosa Lee Campbell.

Final rites were conducted at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating.  Interment followed at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions in Betty’s name to Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Avenue, Belington, WV 26250.

Ronald B. Lambert

Ronald B. Lambert, 75 of Brunswick, MD, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2010, at the Citizens Nursing Home.

Born September 24, 1934, in Harrisonburg, VA, he was the son of the late Samuel Merle Lambert and Thelma Hedrick Lambert.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Harman Lambert.

Mr. Lambert graduated from Circleville High School and will be remembered by his classmates of 1954.  He then served in the United States Air Force from 1956-1960.  He retired in 1999 from the Orbital Science Corp. formally Fairchild Industries after 34 years and had many close friends that he worked with.

He was a charter member of the Faith Baptist Church where he served on the building and ground committee and was an usher for many years.  He also volunteered at the local Food Bank.

He had a passion for baseball and coached Babe Ruth and Legion baseball in Brunswick.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and always had his camera with him to record all his family events.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by one son, David H. Lambert and wife Laurie of Harpers Ferry; and two daughters, Ronda D. Lambert and husband, Ken Henkel, of Jefferson, and Darla L. Schiffhauer and husband, Clint of Harpers Ferry; four grandchildren, Zachary Lambert, Alycia Lambert, Owen Schiffhauer and Blair Schiffhauer; one brother, Donald Merle Lambert and wife, Maureen of Falls Church, VA; and aunt and uncle, Gay and Garland Mullenax of Cherry Grove, aunt Helen Hedrick of Parkersburg, aunt, Ina Lee Hedrick of Seneca Rocks, and aunt Norma Boserman of Elkins, brother-in-law, Joe Harman and wife, Reva of Canaan Valley, and a sister-in-law, Jean Harman, of Harman.  He will also be remembered by all of his nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Blair Harman; and one niece, Cheryl Harman.  Also by many aunts and uncles to whom help raised him and were very dear to him.

The family will receive friends today from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the High Rock United Methodist Church, Seneca Rocks, funeral services will follow.
