Winfred Delawder, 88
Winfred Jennings Delawder, 88, of Mathias, died July 30, 2012, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 6, 1923, in Mathias, and was a son of the late Casper and Serena Weaver Delawder.
Mr. Delawder worked at Walker Manufacturing before retiring. He was a member of Cove Chapel United
Methodist Church in Mathias.On Oct. 6, 1943, he married the former Glee Whetzel, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Richard Delawder and wife, Rita, of Mathias; a daughter, Carolyn Propst and husband,
Jesse (Bud), of Bergton; five sisters, Treva Flory of Timberville, Joyce Fulk and Lenora Delawder, both of Broadway, and Vergie and Wanda Delawder, both of Franklin; one brother, Harlan Delawder of Timberville; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.He was also preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.
A funeral service was held last Thursday at Garretts Chapel United Methodist Church in Mathias. Burial was in
the Mathias Mennonite Community Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to Garretts Chapel or Cove Chapel United Methodist Church.

Julia B. Waxter, 84
Julia B. Waxter, of Cockeysville, MD, and formerly of Franklin passed away July 30, 2012.
Born Julia Reaney Baldwin, October 30, 1927, the oldest child of Howard F. and Rachel Reaney Baldwin.
Her husband of 62 years, William Deal Waxter, III, survives.
Also surviving are children, Susan Waxter and Peter Waxter of Baltimore, MD; a grandson, James B. Waxter; two
brothers, A. Stuart Baldwin of Chestertown, MD, and Howard F. Baldwin Jr. of Baltimore, MD.A memorial service will be held Sunday, at 1 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 811 Cathedral Street,

Beatrice Rebecca Greathouse Nelson, 78, of Baker, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Hospice Care
Regional Inpatient Center in Elkins.Born February 5, 1934 at Frank, she was a daughter of the late Guy Ervil and Sallie Edith Lambert Greathouse.
She was of the Presbyterian Faith and was a former employee of Hanover Shoe Company.
Her husband, Wilbur Harold Nelson, Sr. Preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters; sisters, Betty Tingler of Cherry Grove, Linda Arbogast of Cherry Grove, and
Patty Bennett of Marlinton; two brothers, Johnny Greathouse of Durbin, and Tommy Greathouse of Bartow; three granddaughters, three grandsons, eight great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, and two step-greatgrandchildren.She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Lee Nelson Brewster; a son, Wilbur Harold Nelson, Jr.;
and a sister, Twila Greathouse.Funeral services were held Sunday, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale, with Rev. David

Shirley Mae Goldizen
Shirley Mae Goldizen, age 65, of Petersburg, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2012 at Ruby Memorial Hospital
in Morgantown.She was born in Harrisonburg, VA on February 8, 1947, the daughter of the late Jim Long and Alice Marie
Heavener Sites.Mrs. Goldizen attended Bethel Pentecostal Church and was a member of the Jordan Run Baptist Church. She
was a homemaker.She had also been a resident of Pendleton Manor.
Her husband, Burley "Tom" Goldizen preceded her in death on March 7, 2005.
Surviving are two sisters, Rosetta Berg of Maysville, Betty Dolly of Petersburg; five brothers, Mason Heavener
and wife Maxine of Petersburg, Willie Heavener and wife Bonnie of Petersburg, Luther Heavener of Cabins, Larry Heavener and wife Sally of Cabins, Paul Heavener of Dunn Loring, VA; a step grandchild; three step great-grandchildren; and a number of step great-great-grandchildren.She was also preceded in death by two step sons, Robert Leon "Bobby" Goldizen, Thomas "Sam" Goldizen; a
step grandson, Thomas F. Goldizen; and her grandparents, Asa M. and Ella Mae (Moyers) Heavener, who raised her from childhood.Funeral services were held last Thursday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg with Rev. Lyle Berg and
Rev. Paul Donaldson officiating. Interment was in Maysville Cemetery, Maysville.Memorials may be made to the family, c/o the Basagic Funeral Home, POB 400, Petersburg, WV 26847.

John Edwin Starr
Mr. John Edwin Starr, 96, of Franklin, and formerly of South Charleston, died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at
Pendleton Manor in Franklin.He was born September 17, 1915 at Parkersburg, and was the son of the late Earl W. and Ruth Patton Starr.
Mr. Starr was a chemist at Union Carbide in South Charleston for 34 years, working in the Research and
Development Dept. He had also worked for the West Virginia Dept. of Natural Resources in the Water Resources Division for 11 years.He joined the First Presbyterian Church of South Charleston in 1952 and served in various capacities including
Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and Elder, and was selected as an honorary member by the Women of the Church. He was a member of the Carbide Hunting and Fishing Club. While living in Franklin, he faithfully attended Franklin United Methodist Church, where he was active in the Adult Sunday School class.His wife, Eva Virginia Leach Starr, preceded him in death in 2001.
Surviving are a daughter, son-in-law and grandson, Ruth and Jack Vogel and John Vogel of Franklin, with whom
he had made his home for the past 3 1/2 years, and several nieces and nephews.He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Jean Owens, Joan Pat Yeager, Grace Gainer and Jeanette Sutton.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Kimble Funeral Home in
Franklin.A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at Sunset Memory Gardens, Parkersburg, with Jack Vogel
officiating.A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of South Charleston, South

John Richard Waggy, 90, a resident of San Mateo, VA, died Aug. 2, 2012.
Born June 1, 1922, in Sugar Grove, he was a son of the late Harman and Ollie Hoover Waggy.
Mr. Waggy attended a one room country school until high school. He graduated from Franklin High in 1941.
He served in the Military from 1942 to 1946. He was first assigned to the Signal Corps and then to the 8th and
9th Army Air Corps in Europe. After the War he worked for the US Government in China. After the regime change in China he moved to Japan where he worked for 6 months for the Air Force in Japan.After returning to the States, John attended a radio school in Kansas City. Upon completion he went to work for
the CAA (Now FAA) in Anchorage and Nome. After several years he transferred to Alabama where he worked for three years. He always loved Alaska and after buying a plane in Virginia, he flew to himself to Skwentna. He worked for the FAA in Skwentna and Kenai for a year.When he left the FAA, he went to work for Aeronautical Radio, Inc. The company soon transferred him to
Denver. In Denver, he met and married his wife. He lived in Denver for 16 years. In 1974, his company transferred him to the Bay Area.Surviving are two daughters Joan Rosas, San Mateo, CA and Anne Dyvig, Carlsbad, CA. He is also survived by
two grandchildren, a granddaughter, Jamie Dyvig and a grandson, Scott Dyvig.A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Denver, CO, on Saturday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m.
The family requests that donations be sent in his name to the Disabled American Veterans.
