Bertha Kimble, 84

Bertha Dawne Alder Kimble, 84, of Harrisonburg, VA, went to heaven Saturday evening, Aug. 1, 2009.

A daughter of the late Ernest Major and Nora Keysear Alder, she was born on Aug. 10, 1924, in Virginia.

She was educated in Rockingham County schools.  She lived most of her adult life in Harrisonburg, VA, and had been employed by Pick-n-Pay Shoes.  She retired in 1989 and was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Melvin G. Kimble, formerly of Brushy Run.

Besides her husband, she leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Marilyn Kelsey and Karan Lunstra and husband, Don, all of Richmond, VA; three grandchildren, Shawn Fenner and wife, Sarah, Brandon Fenner and wife, Connie, and Kyle Dawne Kelsey, all of Richmond, VA; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Mulik, Josh Fenner, Tommy Kelsey, Ethan Fenner and Graysen Fenner, all of Richmond, VA; one sister, Ella Hickman of Harrisonburg, VA; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Alder and George “Bud” Alder; and one sister, Frances Brown.

Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Chapel with Dr. E. Thomas Murphy Jr. officiating.  Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Westhampton Memorial Park in Richmond, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, PO Box 1477.  Harrisonburg, VA 22803.

Jeffrey Allen Riggleman

Jeffrey Allen Riggleman, 51, of Accokeek, MD, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.

He was born in Washington, DC, on Sept. 12, 1957, the son of Ralph “Pete” Cody Riggleman of Upper Tract and the late Joann Cathern Alt Riggleman, who died May 11, 1993.

He was a graduate of Surattsville High School, worked in window manufacturing for US Vinyl Corporation and was an artillery mechanic for Beretta Corporation.

Mr. Riggleman was married to Marianne Patricia Miller of Waldorf, MD, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Lagana and husband, Tony of Athens, AL; two sons, Joshua Allen Riggleman and fiancé, Kimberly of Solomon’s Island, MD, and Jason Cody Riggleman, of Waldorf, MD; a brother Ricky Waggy of Ohio; and two grandchildren, Jordan Riggleman and Jasmyne Lagana.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Basagic Funeral Home Chapel, Franklin, with Rev. Edgar Null officiating.  Burial was in the Kline Cemetery, Upper Tract.

Ralph L. Dove

Ralph Lough Dove, 83, of Mozer died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at his home.

He was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Mozer and was the son of the late Homer R. Dove and Leta G. (Lough) Dove.

Mr. Dove was a life-long farmer and poultry grower.  He owned and operated Dove’s Store in Mozer since the late ‘70’s.

He was a member of the Mount Horeb United Methodist Church of  Mozer, the Pendleton Masonic Lodge No. 144 A.F. & A.M. of Franklin and the Order of the Eastern Star No. 138 of Franklin.  He was a charter member of the South Branch Ruritan Club and a life-time member of the West Virginia Poultry Association having served on the board of directors of Rockingham Poultry.

He was an avid reader and traveler, having visited 48 states, Canada and Mexico.

His wife of 63 years, Eileen (Hiser) Dove, whom he married April 26, 1946, survives.

Also surviving are one son, Larry Dove and wife, Doris of Mozer; one daughter, Cathy Dove of Harrisonburg, VA; two grandchildren, Clifton Dove and Beth Dove, both of Mozer; one sister, Shelva (Dove) Andrews of New Manchester; and one niece, Carol Andrews of Pittsburgh, PA.

The Eastern Star No. 138, Franklin, conducted a service on Thursday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Mount Horeb United Methodist Church, Mozer, with the Rev. Rita Beeman officiating.  Interment was in the Kline Cemetery, Kline.  A Masonic graveside service was conducted by the Pendleton Masonic Lodge No. 144 A.F. & A.M. of Franklin.

Gae N. Smith, 92

Gae N. Smith, 92, of Riverton died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009 at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.

Funeral arrangements, under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin, were incomplete at press time.

Elsie Lena Smith Warner

Elsie Lena Smith Warner, 93, of Riverton departed this life Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Pendleton Manor, Franklin.

She was born at Bowden, Randolph County, on Nov. 14, 1915, and was the daughter of the late Andrew C. Smith and Zettie Ware Smith.

Mrs. Warner came to the Riverton area in 1920 as a foster child in the home of Jack and Sallie Raines.  Two years later, she was taken into the home of Sarah and Mary Huffman, where she would spend the next 85 years of her life.  She was a loving and devoted wife and mother.  She worked tirelessly, inside and outside the house, to help rear a large family.  She was a great seamstress and could make most anything in the clothing line.  She was also a fabulous cook.  She and Gale and the family were active in the Methodist church until their hip surgeries in later years kept them from climbing the many steps going into the church.  She loved the Lord and studied her Bible on a regular basis.

She was a member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Warner went to live at Pendleton Manor on Feb. 16, 2009.

On Jan. 11, 1939, she married Gale J. Warner, who preceded her in death on January 9, 2000.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are four sons, Richard G. Warner and wife, Ruth of Franklin, Robert Warner and wife, Wanda of Daleville, VA, Carroll Warner and wife, Eleanor of Riverton, and Jerry W. Warner of Baton Rouge, LA; one daughter, Betty Rader of Beverly; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Smith of Hurricane; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.  Her surviving posterity at this point totals 41.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Dale Smith; two sisters; and one brother.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with Rev. Barbara Rexrode and Richard Warner officiating.  Burial was at the North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Riverton.
