Kathryn Hartman, 15

Kathryn Elise Hartmann, 15, of Toledo, OH, died Friday, July 23, 2004, as a result of a fall from Seneca Rocks. 

Ms. Hartmann was born August 23, 1988, in Toledo, OH, and was the daughter of David James Hartmann and Arlene Marie Missler Hartmann of Toledo, OH.  

She was in her junior year as a student at theSt. Ursula Academy in Toledo, OH. She was a member of the lacrosse team and cross country, stage crew, and the Girl Scouts.  She was also a member of Our Lady of Pereptual Help.  

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Matthew Hartmann and Christopher Hartmann, both of Toledo, OH; grandparents, Blanche Hartmann and Herman Hartmann, both of Columbus, OH; and one uncle, Mark Hartmann of Columbus, OH.  

the Revs. Robert Wilhelm and James Sanfod, O.S.F.F., conducted the funeral Wednesday at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial was in the Resurrection Cemetery in Toledo, OH. 

The Coyle Funeral Home of Toledo, OH, was in charge of the arrangements. 

Charles Raines, 75

Charles Homer Raines, 75, of Falls Church, VA, and formerly of Moorefield, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC.

Mr. Raines was born July 25, 1929, in Hardy County and was the son of the late Homer and Thelma Liller Raines. 

He was retired from the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean WAr, where he received the purple Heart.  He was a member of the Petworth Lodge no. 47 A.F.& A.M.

His wife of 50 years, Mondolea Whetzel Raines, survives. 

Also surviving are a son, Charles H. Raines, Jr., of Burke, VA; a daughter, Diana Dean of Burke, VA; two brothers, Gordon Raines and Rocky Raines, both of Moorefield; two sisters, Juanita See of Moorefield and Virginia Flinn of Franklin; three grandchildren and a great-grandson.   

 The Rev. Ted Osgood conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield.  Burial was a t the Olivet Cemetery.

Arlie Raines

Arlie Raines, 87, of Brandywine, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center, Harrisonburg, VA. 

Mr. Raines was born Aug. 23, 1916, in Simoda and was the son of the late Patrick Raines and Laura Lambert Raines.  

He retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways.  He was a farmer and a member and trustee of Riverside United Methodist Church in Brandywine. 

On Feb. 23, 1939, he married Gladys Hedrick Raines, who survives. 

Also surviving are two sons, Harold Raines and wife, Hilda of Brandywine, and Daniel Raines, and wife, JoAnn of Harrisonburg, VA; three granddaughters, Teresa Cassell, Jana Cullers and Amy Raines; and two great-grandsons, Jordan Cassell and Dustin Dyer. 

He was preceded in death by two infant daughters. 

The Rev. Mark James and Pastor Harold Cullers conducted the funeral at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Franklin. 

Memorials may be made to the Riverside United Methodist Church, Brandywine.  

Dorothy Arbaugh

Dorothy Marie "Dot" Arbaugh, 81, of Waynesboro, VA, died July 30, 2004, at Augusta Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Indianapolis, IN, daughter of the late John and Helen Warner Finn. 

She was a graduate of Long Beach High School in Long Beach, CA.  She could have furthered her education, but she instead chose to raise a family.  She met and married Robert Stanley Arbaugh in San Diego, CA.  She lived most of her life with family in Jessup, MD, and Columbia, MD, before moving to Waynesboro, VA, three years ago. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert "Bob" Arbaugh, formerly of Circleville, on Feb. 27, 2004, a daughter, Marlena Gail Arbaugh; a son, Dale Arbaugh, and a sister Margaret Ruth Crawford.  

Surviving are her children, Judy McDonaldson of Waynesboro, VA, Carolyn Stevens of Goshen, VA, Larry Arbaugh of Oak Grove, KY, Rocky Arbaugh of Owings Mill, MD, Alan Arbaugh of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Gary Arbaugh of Hughesville, MD; a step-daughter, Edith Hensley of Edinburg, VA;32 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.  

A service was held Monday at McDow Funeral Home, Wayesboro, VA, by Pastor Joseph Hughes.  Burial followed in Riverview Cemetery, Waynesboro, VA. 

Terry L. Swadley, 86

Terry Lee Swadley, 86, of Paw Paw and formerly of Brandywine, died Monday, July 27, 2004, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. 

Mr. Swadley was born Oct. 23, 1917, in Brandywine and was the son of the late Tyree Lee Swadley and Eva Hahan Swadley. 

He was a milk carrier for Borden's Milk and retired from Sanese Services of Columbus, OH, in 1985.  He was a member of the VFW Post No. 3424 and American Legion Post No. 144 in Columbus, OH.  He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II.   

On April 10, 1940, he married Betty Noland Swadley, who survives. 

Also surviving are a daughter, Sandi Columbro of Columbus, OH; a son, Edward Swadley and wife, Sandi of Columbus, OH; a brother, Virgil Swadley and wife Ruby of McLean, VA; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.  

Pastor Herman Goede conducted the funeral at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Paw Paw.  Burial was in the Woodrow Cemetery in Paw Paw.
