Virgil (Herb) Kerns, 89, of Miller Memorial Health Care Center, Andover, OH, formerly of Atlantic, PA, and one time resident of Circleville, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at the center.

Mr. Kerns was born Aug. 30, 1911, in Hazen, AK, a son of the late George L. And Mary Shetterly Kerns.

He married Freddie Marie Johnston in Circleville, July 1, 1933. She preceded him in death April 24, 1998.

He had been employed as an oiler by FMC Corp. in Meadville, PA, where he retired after 27 1/2 years. He had also been employed at Chicago Bridge and Iron, Goodyear, Akron and Conneaut Lake Park, where he operated the merry-go-round and was ride manager. He was a lifetime member of Pennsylvania Fire Police Association and East Fallowfield township Volunteer Fire Departments. He was a member of Atlantic Congregational Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Galbraith, and her husband, Max, and Linda Buffham, and her husband, Hugh, all of Jamestown, P; two sons, Robert L. Kerns, and wife, Marilyn, of Linesville, PA, and John L. Kerns, and his wife, Edna, of Fredonia, PA: a step-son, Jewel VanDevander, and his wife, Faye, of Riverdale, MD; a sister, Sally Turo of Sandy Creek, NY; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and thre great-great-grandchildren..

He was preceded in death by a son Charles Larry Kerns; a sister, Ruth; a brother, Ernest; and three grandchildren, Sean Robert Kerns, David Allen Buffham, and Wlater D. Williams, III.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, July 11, at the Atlantic Congregational Church with the Rev. Jeff Sterling officiating.

Burial was at the rocky Glen Cemetery, Adamsville, PA.

Warren Wilson Wimer, 86, Harrisonburg, VA, and formerly of Clover Hill, VA, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Sunnyside Retirement community in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Wimer was born March 19, 1915, in Moyers and was a son of the late Mario and Martha Moats Wimer.

He was a farmer and carpenter. He was employed by Nielsen Construction and the city of Harrisonburg, Parks and Recreation Department before retiring. He was a member of the Clover Hill United Methodist Church.

On April 16, 1938, he married Tressie Mae Propst, who died Feb. 11, 1987.

He is survived by two daughters, Janice W. Bodkin, Dayton, VA, and Thelma W. Lohr, Harrisonburg, VA; two sons, Ona Wimer, Monterey, VA; and Wilson Wimer, Dayton, Va; a brother, Vernon Wimer, Franklin; a sister, Ella Mae Rexrode, Sugar Grove; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the clover Hill United Methodist Church. Burial followed at the Clover Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater, VA.
