Herbert M. Hartman

Herbert McKee Hartman, 73, of Franklin, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Hartman was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Reeds Creek and was a son of the late Elmer McKee Harman and Bertha Mae Rader.

He was a farmer and had retired from Hanover Shoe Company after 25 years as night watchman. He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Franklin Moose Lodge No. 769 and the West Virginia Farm Bureau.

On July 14, 2000, he married Reva Jean Smith Hartman, who survives.

Also surviving are three step-daughters, Lois J. Mitchell, June M. Nelson and Laura M. "Cricket" Lambert, all of Franklin; one step-son, Roy E. "Bud" Hartman of Franklin; one sister, Ruth J. Kile of Franklin; one great-aunt, Arveda Pritt, Keyser; 10 step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in deaty by three brothers, Ralph, Mason and Roy James Hartman; and four sisters, Erma Rexrode, Helen Lockwood, Janet Keplinger and Ethel Smith.

The Revs. Merl Correll and Stanley Kile conducted the funeral service Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Maysville.

Peachie Neva Warner

Peachie Neva Warner, 86, of Riverton, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.

Mrs. Warner was born June 29, 1916, at Hunting Ground and was a daughter of the late Amby H. and Surrilda Waybright Warner.

She was employed at the Franklin Garment Company and retired from Hanover Shoe Inc., at age 70, after 19 years of service. She was dedicated to and a member of the North Fork Apostolic Church, and attended faithfully as long as her health would allow, and beyond. She was loving and passionately devoted to her children and grandchildren.

On Oct. 23, 1937, she married Owen C. Warner, who preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1998.

She is survived by four daughters, Faye Rosencrance of Dailey, Lyda Armstrong of Culloden, Frances Morgan of Harrisonburg, VA, and Jerri Mick of Upper Tract; two sons, Ronald Warner of Durbin and Jim Warner of Riverton; three sisters, Opal Bennett and Bessie Warner, both of Beverly, and Jessie Sponaugle of Elkins; 17 grandchidlren; 20 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pastor James Phares conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at the North Fork Apostolic Tabernacle near Riverton. Burial was at the North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

Memorial donations may be made to the North Fork Rescue Squad, the North Fork Apostolic Church of the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

 

Jeanie Locklin Van Trees

Betty Jean "Jeanie" Locklin Van Trees, 50, of Reston, VA, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA.

Mrs. Van Trees was born May 11, 1952, in Tuscaloosa, AL, and was the daughter of Rob and Betty Jean Huffstutler Locklin of Franklin.

She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, and was a member of the St. Thomas A. Becket Catholic Church. She was a graduate of Bethany College in Bethany.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Stephen P. Van Trees; two children, Robert Van Trees and Becca Van Trees, both of Reston, VA; a sister, Eleanor Brown of Chapel Hill, NC; and two brothers Lawrence Locklin of Centreville, VA, and Tracy Locklin of Washington, D.C.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas A. Becket in Reston, VA.

The Revs. Thomas Malcolm, Walter Mullins and Margaret Locklin Anderson, of Mobile, AL, a first cousin of Mrs. Van Trees, conducted a graveside service at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Crest Memorial Gardens in Franklin.

The family received friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon, VA.

Local funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

 

Willard "Bud" Hedrick, 89

Willard "Bud" Hedrick, 89, of Onego, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at the home of his daughter, Bonnie and Garland Raines in Onego.

Mr. Hedrick was born Nov. 30, 1912, in Onego, a son of the late Amby and Anna Hedrick.

He was a farmer and carpenter. He attended Seneca United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Macie (Harper) Hedrick, on April 28, 1992. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Sheldon W. and Paula Hedrick of Whitmer; one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie L. and Garland Raines of Onego; two sisters, Vera Weese of Maysville, and Artie Harper of Warren, OH; three grandchildren, Matthew Hedrick of Whitmer, Robert "Bobby" Hedrick of Parsons, and Christina Raines of Onego; one step great-grandson, Donald Davis of Parsons; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Florida Auville, Zadie Hedrick Elva Hedrick and Gatrel Wratchford.

Pastor Barbara K. Rexroad conducted the funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday at Seneca Rocks United Methodist Church. Interment was in North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

Lee O. M. Hulvey, 76

Lee O.M. Hulvey, 76, of Stafford, VA, died July 28, 2002, at Heritage Hall Health Care.

He was the owner of Hulvey Excavating Company in Stafford, VA, a charter member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and a member of American Legion Post #290 in Stafford, VA.

Preceded in death by his wife, Monna Ruth Hoover, Hulvey, formerly of Pendleton County, he is survived by two daughters, Linda L. Sparks of Orlando FL, and Sharon M. Hilson of Winter Springs, FL; four sons, Dwight M. Hulvey of Alexandria, VA, Gaylon E.D. Hulvey of Pierson, FL, and Jerry L. Hulvey and Dennie E. Hulvey, both of Stafford, VA; six grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Peters's Lutheran Church with Pastor Rich Duncan officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Harrisonburg, VA.
