William Blair Clower

William Blair Clower, 96, of Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at the nursing home. 

Mr. Clower was born April 21, 1907, in Glebe and was a son of the late Hubert Clower, formerly of Romney and Hettie Miller Clower. 

He was a bridge builder with Clower and Michael Concrete plants in Romney and was a Navy veteran of World War II.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church. 

His wife, Margie Johnson Clower, preceded him in death april 29, 2002. 

He is survived by three daughters, Debbie Clower of Rawley Springs, VA, Donna Warner of Franklin, and Dinah Mitchell of Sugar Grove; two stepsons, Eddie Simpson and Lanny Marshall, both of Franklin; a sister, Maxine Clower of Romney; three brothers, John Clower of Fairmont, Ira "Dutch" Clower of Bunker Hill, and Kermit Clower of LaVale, MD; three grandchildren, Carlton Blair Warner, Blair Danielle Mitchell and Ryan Mitchell; three step grandchildren, Laura Evick, Donetta Harman and Jordan Harman; and two step-great-grandchildren, Madison and Kyle Evick.  

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gene Clower and Herbert Clower, Jr.; and one sister, Margaret Clower. 

The Revs. Calvin Bailey and Steven Landis and Pastor Dan Ludwick conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin.  Burial was at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin with military rites by the combined veterans organizations of Pendleton county and the Sugar Grove Naval Security Guard.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pendleton Nursing Home, Nursing Equipment fund or Van Fund or the Pendleton County rescue squads.  

Jesse Kisamore, 59

Jesse Kisamore, 59, Petersburg, died July 15, 2003, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg. 

Mr. Kisamore was born Oct. 6, 1943, in Seneca Rocks and was the son of the late Martin M. Kisamore and Pearlie Sites Kisamore.   

He was a member of the local No. 984, Clarksburg. 

He married Unawon Redman Kisamore, who died Dec. 4, 1996. 

Surviving are a stepdaughter, Tayloria Shockey of Moorefield; five brothers, Jearl K. Kisamore, Jacob Kisamore and John M. Kisamore, all of Seneca rocks, Jackson Kisamore of Florida, and Justin J. Kisamore of Petersburg; a sister, Judith E. Vance of Cabins; a stepgranddaughter, Cheryle Shockey; and several nieces and nephews.  

He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Jonah Kisamore, Jerry W. Kisamore; Joseph L. Kisamore, and Julius Kisamore. 

Pastor Daryl Dunsmore conducted a memorial service 7 p.m. Saturday at the Cornerstone Fellowship on route 42 in Maysville.  Burial was private in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg. 

Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg was in charge of arrangements. 

Ruth Spates, 94

Ruth S. Spates, 94, of Keezletown, VA, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at her home.  She moved to the Harrisonburg, VA, area in 1973, from McClean, VA, and was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Keezletown, VA, until her transfer to Muhlenberg Lutheran Church in December 2002. 

Mrs. Spates was born Oct. 3, 1908, and was a daughter of the late Terry and Eva Hahn Swadley.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Abram Zirkle, in 1962, and her second husband, Ross A. Spates, in 1970 after a short illness.  

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, cross stitching and furniture restoration.  She was affiliated with the Frederick County Home Demonstration club and the Keezletown Homemakers club. 

Survivors include a son, Raymond Lee Swadley of Mount Sidney, VA; a stepson, William F. Zirkle of Winchester, VA; a duaghter, Mary June Liskey of Topeka, KS; a stepdaughter, Nancy Louise Mushleng of Sun Valley, ID; two brothers, Terry Lee Swadley of Paw Paw and Virgil Hahn Swadley of Riverton; four grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren. 

the funeral was held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church on East Market Street.  Burial was held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine.  

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice. 

Clingman Emerson, 80

Clingman Emerson, went home to be with the Lord last Sunday, July 27, 2003, after a long and fruitful life.  He was 80 years of age. 

Mr. Emerson was born on Sept. 30, 1922, in Winfield, LA.  He moved to Washington, DC, in 1941, after high school and married Doris Wessman in 1947. 

He served in active duty in the Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict, and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1954. 

He worked as a mechanical engineer for the Naval Research Lab and was stationed at Sugar Grove from 1961 to 1975.  During those years, he and his wife lived in Franklin and were blessed to raise three children, Gene, Sue and Patti, in this community. 

In 1975, he transferred back to Washington DC and settled in Clinton, MD.  Not many years later, his children were married and eventually 12 grandchildren arrived.

In 1989, the Emersons relocated to Midlothian, VA, to serve in starting a new church led by their son, Gene, where Mr. Emerson was a much loved member... many considered him a "grandfather" to the church.

In April, the Emersons celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.  Mr. Emerson was a man with a zeal for life that was evident in all he did.  He was a gentleman, kind and courteous to everyone.  He always had an encouraging word, no matter the situation.  He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.  His was a life well lived!

A memorial service will be held at the Brandermill Church in Midlothian, VA, Saturday, Aug. 2, at 11:00 a.m.
