Bessie V. Kimble

Bessie V. Kimble, 79, of Upper Tract died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.

Mrs. Kimble was born May 5, 1928, in Ruddle and was the daughter of the late John McKee Holloway and Ola Mae Hedrick Holloway.

She was a cook at New Frontier Restaurant and Thompson’s Restaurant. She attended Franklin Assembly of God Church.

On Dec. 1, 1947, she married Lloyd "Pete" V. Kimble; he preceded her in death March 31, 2002.

Surviving are two daughters, Virginia A. Ours of Dorcas and Patricia M. Kimble of Columbus, OH; four sons, Lloyd A. Knight of Austintown, OH, Sherman W. Kimble and Brent D. Kimble, both of Upper Tract, and Roger Lee Kimble of Sterling and ; a brother, Robert H. Holloway of Upper Tract, W.Va., seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.  

Pastor Calvin Bailey will conduct the funeral Saturday at the Chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was in the Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract.

Edith M. Hedrick, 83

Edith Mae Hedrick, 83, of Onego, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.

Mrs. Hedrick was born July 13, 1924, in Onego and was the daughter of the late Zadie Hedrick and step-daughter of the late Denver Hedrick.

She was a member of the Brushy Run Mennonite Church in Onego and was a former member of the Seneca Rocks Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Her husband, Blanco Hedrick preceded her in death March 29, 1974.

Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Kimble and husband, Dusty of Petersburg; eight sons, Ronnie L. Hedrick and wife, Wanda, Sammie L. Hedrick and wife, Colleen, all of Moorefield, James E. Hedrick and wife, Linda of Cabins, Larry J. Hedrick and wife Mirian, George D. Hedrick, Rocky D. Hedrick and wife Melody, all of Onego, Bobby J. Hedrick anjd wife, Mary of Upper Tract, Blanco Hedrick Jr. and wife, Bonnie of Charles Town; two sisters, Linda Ketterman and husband, Hancel of Onego, and Etta Reel and husband Edgar of Moorefield; a brother, Johnnie Hedrick and wife, Bonnie of Onego, 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two infant sisters and two brothers, Hobert Hedrick and an infant brother. 

The Rev. Earl Bible and Pastor Larry Showalter conducted the funeral Thursday at the Bible Missionary Church in Onego. Burial was in the North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

Memorial contributions may be made tot he Brushy Run Mennonite Church in Onego, or the Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.

Iva M. Simmons, 95

Iva Mae Simmons, 95, of Woodbridge, VA, died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Potomac Hospital.

Mrs. Simmons was born April 14, 1912, in Monterey, VA, and was a daughter of the late Early Lee and Margaret Catherine Halterman Puffenbarger.

She was a homemaker and was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA.

On Dec. 25, 1931, she married Henry Gordon Simmons, who preceded her in death Dec. 26, 1975.

Survivors include four daughters, Nina Mae Helmick of Fredericksburg, VA, Margaret Jane Rigney of Woodbridge, VA, Linda Lou Gardiner of Manassas, VA,  and Wanda Gail Rexrode of Franklin; two sons, Elbert Wayne Simmons of Lake Anna, VA, and Delbert Blaine Simmons of Stafford, VA; a brother, Elbert "Pete" Puffenbarger of Locust Grove, VA; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Dr. David Rodenhizer will conduct the funeral Tuesday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Moyers.

Wayne R. Boggs

Wayne R. Boggs, 65, of Buckeye, and formerly of Franklin, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007.

He was born July 3, 1942, and was the son of the late John and Anna Boggs.

He was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War, a lifetime member of the V.F.W., Disabled American Veterans and Loyal Order of the Moose. He retired from Hanover Shoe with 30 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Boggs; three sons, Johnnie Boggs of Nashville, TN, Jimmy Boggs of Buckeye, and Donnie Pinkerton of Glenville; two daughters, Dee Dee Alexander of Marlinton and Lisa Garber of Harrisonburg, VA; one brother, Curtis Boggs of Rupert; two aunts, Grace Dyer of Franklin and Mary Ann Etherton of Greens Fork, IN; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Graveside services were conducted Friday at Mountain View Cemetery, Marlinton, with Pastor Sam Felton officiating and military honors being accorded.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Van Reenen Funeral Home at Marlinton.

William Nelson, 78

William Burton Nelson, 78, a resident of Harrisonburg, VA, died at 10:53 Friday evening, July 20, 2007, at Willow Estates in Penn Laird, VA.

A son of the late Raymond Boggs and Elva Mullenax Nelson, he was born on Sept. 24, 1928, at Blue Grass, VA.

Mr. Nelson  lived the majority of his life in Rockingham County, VA.  He served in the Army during the Korean War.  He had previously worked at a sawmill, but was a truck driver for the majority of his life. He had been employed by Pony Express, Maphis Chapman, Smith Transfer, and retired in 1992 from Valley Blox.

On Dec. 26, 1953, he married Geneva Elizabeth Rexrode, who preceded in death in 1996.

He is survived by three daughters, Gail L. Shears and Sandra M. Smith, both of Harrisonburg, VA, and Charlene N. Crawford of Penn Laird, VA; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Harris and Frances Selmon, both of Highland County, VA; and one brother, Junior G. Nelson of Dayton, VA.

He was cremated at the Lindsey Cremation Chapel. A memorial service was held Tuesday in the main lobby at Willow Estates with Brother Blaine Smith Jr. officiating. Burial was private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rockingham Memorial Hospital Regional Cancer Center, 100 E. Grace St., Harrisonburg, VA 22801, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
