Harry R. Wilfong, 96

Harry Raymond Wilfong, 96, Bridgewater, VA, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Bridgewater Home. He had lived in Sugar Grove and Sangerville communities before going to the Bridgewater Home in 1995.

Mr. Wilfong was born Feb. 11, 1905, in Sugar Grove and was a son of the late Joseph Henry Wilfong and Eliza Jane Simmons Wilfong.

He was a sander at Thumas Furniture Factory before his retirement. He was a member of the Sangerville United Methodist Church.

He was twice married, first to Druey Whitmore, who died December of 1941, then he was united in marriage, in June of 1945 to Goldie Cook Eavey Wilfong who died on Oct 11, 1998.

He is survived by one son-in-law, Gilbert Simmons, Sugar Grove; four step-daughters, Madeline Huffman, Harrisonburg, VA, Beatrice Kiracofe and Anice Michael, both of Bridgewater, VA, and Jean Michael, Mount Solon, Va; 15 step-grandchildren; and a number of step-great-grandchildren also survive.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Simmons.

A graveside service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, at the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Bridgewater, VA, with the Rev. Gale H. Younkins, chaplain, officiating.

Clyde Rubert Puffenbarger, 86, Head Waters, VA, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Center in Martinsburg.

Mr. Puffenbarger was born June 13, 1915, in the Palo Alto community of Highland County, and wa the son of the late George and Dorothy McCray Puffenbarger.

He was a self-employed painter and US Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Crummett Run Church of the Brethren, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9666 of Sugar Grove, and the Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving are three nieces, May Kimble, Littletown, PA, Pauline Breeden, Staunton, VA and Isabelle Kincaid, Verona, VA; a nephew, Richard E. Simmons, Churchville, VA, and a special friend, nancy Weaver, Cottonwood, AL.

The Rev. Jerry Smith conducted the funeral at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA. Burial followed at the Crummett Run Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Glenna Simmons Butler, 84 of Harrisonburg, VA, died Thursday, July 19, 201, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA, after a short illness.

Mrs. Butler was born Oct. 31, 1915, in Moyers and was a daughter of the late Arlie and Lou Dora Propst Simmons.

She was employed in food service at James Madison University until her retirement. She was a member of Otterbine United Methodist church.

On July 16, 1950, she married Ernest S. Butler, Jr., who died April 27, 1998.

Survivors include one son, James G. Butler of singers Glen, VA; two sisters, Zelma Willis, Harrisonburg, VA, and Ruth Costanbader, Indian Head, MD; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Glen Langston conducted a graveside service at 3 p.m. Saturday, at Woodbine Cemetery.

Edmund Grant Simon, 81, Fort Seybert, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin.

Mr. Simon was born July 4, 1920, in Milam and was the son of the late Samuel Edmund Simon and Mary Ellen Nesselrodt Simon.

He retired from Dunham Bush as a sheet metal worker in 1982. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Bethlehem Church of the Brethren.

He was also married to the former Lucy Florence Mitchell Simon, who died Nov. 17, 1998.

Surviving are three daughters, Martha Asp, Pittsburgh, PA, Cindy Ayers, Moorefield, and Connie Hedrick, Franklin; four sons, Lee Simon and Bobby Simon, both of Brandywine, and Charles Simon and Roy Simon both of Fort Seybert; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Dennis Shoemaker will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m. today at the Chapel of Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial will follow at the Siple cemetery, Franklin.

Johnny Pleasant Propst, 73, Ranson, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.

Mr. Propst was born Dec. 16, 1927, at Sugar Grove and was a son of the late Luther Propst and Mary (William) Propst Siron.

In 1959, he started, and owned and operated, the Propst Plumbing and Heating Co., at Ranson. He was an officer and a partner-owner of the Charles Town Race Track for 13 years. For many years he was an owner and breeder of thoroughbred race horses. He was a member of the Shenandoah Development Co. group that developed Tuscawilla Hills and the New Locust Hill Golf Club, Charles Town. He was an avid golfer and active member of the Sleepy Hollow Golf and country Club, Charles Town. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #948, Charles Town, and a member of the Millville United Methodist Church, Millville. He attended Jefferson County schools in West Virginia.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Ruby Elizabeth (Nicewarner) Propst at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald Lee Propst, and wife, Linda, Paul Douglas Propst, Sr., and wife Jackie, all of Ranson; a daughter, Paula Kay Angus, Leetown; five grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Fender, Orlando, FL, and Nola Frye, Maugansville, MD; one brother, Arlen B. Propst, Middleway; and one great-grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Norman O. Propst.

The Rev. James Hamrick conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town. Interment followed at the Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.
