Cynthia Diane "Cindy" Mallow Thompson, 34, of Richmond, VA died Saturday, July 20, 2002 at Children's Hospital in Washington, DC.

Mrs. Thompson was born Sept. 1, 1967, in Petersburg and was the daughter of Earl Delbert Mallow of Manassas, VA, and Nancy Jane Kile Howery of Richmond, VA.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her stepmother, Robin A. Mallow of Manassas, VA, and stepfather, Brenard T. Howery, Sr., of Richmond, VA; her husband, William Scott Thompson; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Thompson; a brother, Mason Earl Mallow of Manassas, VA, and numerous nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Mason and Dovie Mallow; and her maternal grandparents, Ervin and Mary Kile.

The funeral was held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Everly Funeral Home in Fairfax, VA. Burial was at the Thompson family cemetery in Great Falls, VA.

Delsie Margaret Bergdoll, 80, of Bridgewater, VA, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at her home.

Mrs. Bergdoll was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Deer Run and was a daughter of the late Carl Michael Skiles and Etta Mae Evick Skiles.

She was a homemaker and member of Garber's Church of the Brethren.

On Oct. 2, 1938, she married Kennie Lee Bergdoll, who preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 1996.

She is survived by three daughters, Hilda Bergdoll of Bridgewater, VA, Nyoka Sandridge of Mount Crawford, VA, and W. Kay Sandridge of Harrisonburg, VA; a son, W. Orlando Bergdoll of Bridgewater, VA; a sister, Cornelia Grogg of Franklin; two brothers, Earl Skiles of Franklin and Leroy Skiles of Petersburg; five grandchidlren; and five great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Walt D. Crull conducted the funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater, VA. Burial followed at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Pauline J. Bennett, 79, of Riverton, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA. Mrs. Bennett was born June 9, 1923, in Riverton and was a daughter of the late Don L. Burns and Mary C. Kile Burns.

She was a homemaker and Presbyterian by faith.

On Sept. 3, 1940, she married Kennie D. Bennett, who preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1994.

She is survived by six daughters, Leona M. Conrad and Eva G. Kelley, both of Cumberland, MD, Sue C. Hinkle of Riverton, B. Mae Fisher of Lewisville TX, Mary Ann Simposn of Franklin and Wilma J. Crouse of Cherry Grove; two sons, Kennie Bennett, Jr., and James R. Bennett, both of Riverton; a sister, Anna Jean Simpson, Baltimore, MD; four brothers, Paul Burns of Mill Creek and Carl Burns, Curtis Burns and Charles Burns, all of Riverton; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

One brother and one sister also preceded her in death.

Dr. Paul O'Gorek and Pastor Dan Ludwick conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was at the North Fork Cemetery.

Price Cleveland Strawderman, 87, of Mathias, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Strawderman was born Oct. 16, 1914, in Mathias and was the son of the late Jessie and Martha (Strawderman) Strawderman.

He was employed at Rockingham Poultry before retiring and was a member of the Freelandia Bible Church in Broadway, VA.

His first wife, the former Roxie Gay Foltz, preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 1981. In 1987, he married the former Violet L. Anderson Foltz, who preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 1994.

He is survived by three daughters, Ellen Shoemaker and Dorothy Painter, both of Broadway, VA, and Estelle Presgraves of Amissville, VA; seven sons, Connalee and Franklin Strawderman, both of Mathias, Rodrick Strawderman of Wardensville, Stanley Foltz of Mathias, Carl Foltz of Brandywine, Luther Foltz of Harrisonburg, VA, and Paul Foltz of of Timberville, VA; a foster daughter, Ruth Miller and a foster son, Ervin Mattox , both of Mathias; a sister, Susan Strawderman of Damascus, MD; 35 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Dr. Orson Hensley conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Friday at the Grandle Funeral Home inBroadway, VA. Burial was at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Mathias.

Richard Myron Maxham, 64, of Monterey, VA, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at Bath County Community Hospital.

Mr. Maxham was born Aug. 8, 1937, in Barre, VT, and was a son of Marjorie Hinkley Maxham of Montpelier, VT, and the late Donald H. Maxham.

HE was a member of the Franklin Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He was employed by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Sugar Grove as an electronic technician and recently did electrical work. He also worked with solar and wind energy systems and was an amateur radio operator for almost 50 years.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 27 years, Josephine J. Maxham, whom he married May 11, 1975; and three half sisters, Madelyn M. Kimbal, Ethelyn M. Martin and Sylvia A. Cleveland.

Elder Elmer Malcolm conducted a memorial service 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at the Highland Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Burial was private.

James Preston Mays, 79, of Upper Tract, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Mays was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Charlottesville, VA, and was the son of the late Charlie P. Mays and May Wingfield Mays.

He was employed at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was Baptist by faith.

On July 2, 1987, he married Betty Jo Nelson Mowery, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Charles Allen Mays of La Plata, MD; three stepdaughters, Doris Dalrymple of La Plata, MD, Carol Wilson of Crozet, VA, and Robin Jones of Frederick, MD; four stepsons, Barry Maupin of Mechanicsville, MD, David Mowery, Sr., and James Mowery, Sr., both of Upper Tract, and Steve Mowery of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Kathleen "Kitty" Morris of Crozet, VA; 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son and one brother.

A graveside service was held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery in Charlottesville, VA.
