Elsie Marie Warner, 75, of Manassas, VA died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at her son’s home in Manassas, VA.

Mrs. Warner was born April 14, 1933 in Franklin, West Virginia daughter of the late Clarence Oliver and Elsie Mae Lough Hartman. 

She was a member of Manassas Church of the Brethren.

Her husband, Verlie “Bub” Simmons Warner preceded her in death.

She is survived by three children, Randy Hartman and wife, Joyce Dussling of Partlow, VA, Jeff Warner and wife. Jean of Manaasas, VA, and Wade Warner and wife, Tracy of Nokesville, VA; five sisters, Sylvia Hammer of Franklin, Mary Virginia Spitzer of Timberville, VA, Treva Kimble and Patsy Munneke both of Harrisonburg, VA, and Thelma Mallow of Franklin; four brothers, Kenneth Hartman of Harrisonburg, VA, Marvin Hartman of Brandywine, Clarence Hartman of Franklin, and Bill Hartman of Manassas Park, VA; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Manassas Church of the Brethren, Manassas, VA, with Pastor Jeffrey Carter officiating. Interment followed at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, VA.

Catherine H. Smith

Catherine H. Smith, 91, of Franklin died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at her home.

Mrs. Smith was born May 3, 1917, in Zigler and was a daughter of the late Charles E. Hartman and Pearlie Moyers Hartman.

She had worked in ladies' clothing stores in Pennsylvania and Florida and also at Pendleton Nursing Home and the Hanover Shoe Factory in Franklin. She owned and operated Smith's Greenhouse in Franklin and was a member of the Franklin Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On June 25, 1938, she married Myrick "Mike" Smith, who preceded her in death Nov. 26, 2000.

Survivors include a sister, Dessie Witt of McKee Rocks, PA; two brothers, Charles Hartman and wife, Gladys, and Edwin Hartman and wife, Rose, all of Franklin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Her daughter Janice Marlene Smith, preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 2002.  She also was preceded in death by a sister, Retha Radovich on Feb. 23, 2005.  three half brothers, William Lambert, Russell Lambert and LEs Lambert; and three half sisters, Mary Sponaugle, Vergie Bennett and Eva Simmons.

The funeral was held 11 a.m. Monday at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with Bishop Ronnie Kimble and Elder David Hartman officiating. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.

Ralph J. Wagner, 68

Ralph J. Wagner, 68, of Upper Tract died Thursday July 15, 2008, at Grant County Memorial Hospital, Petersburg 

He was born Aug. 30, 1939,m a son of the late Raymond D. and Geneva E. Shaffer Wagner. 

He attended Pine Grove Methodist church, Saltlick.  He was a sanitation worker in Rowlesburg, and also worked at the cable company and the B & O Railroad. 

He is survived by four sons Stephen E. Wagner of Grafton, Raymond J. Wagner and Leonard J. Wagner, both of Rowlesburg, and Ralph Wagner of Morgantown; two daughters, Cathy Edwards of Petersburg and Geneva E. Wagner of Terra Alta; step-children, George M. Shaffer of Terra Alta, David Shaffer of Valley Point, Clarence Shaffer, Jr., of Kingwood, Johnny Shaffer of Ohio, Beverly Taylor of Rowlesburg, Elizabeth Whetzel and spouse, Robert, and Donald R. Moats, all of Upper Tract, and William C. Moats of Elkins; a brother, Raymond J. Wagner of Masontown; three sisters, Barbara Jean Dillsworth of Terra Alta, Margaret M. Teter of Newburg and Alice M. Hovatter of Rowlesburg; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeannie Wagner; his third wife, Darlene M. Wagner; a brother, Donald R. Wagner; and several step-grandchildren.   

Funeral services were held Friday at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, with Rev. Orville Davis officiating.  Burial followed in the Etam Cemetery.

Ann Snouffer, 75, of Franklin and formerly of Upper Tract, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at Pendleton Manor in Franklin..

Mrs. Snouffer was born Feb. 18, 1933, at Mount Airey, MD, and was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Amanda Rimbey Sherman.

She had worked as a secretary for the U.S. Government, and was a member of Chapter No. 138 Order of the Eastern Star. She attended Franklin United Methodist Church.

In 1961 she married George W. Snouffer, who preceded her in death Feb. 12, 2005.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Nalls of Nashville, TN, and Susan Sauder of Atlantic Beach, FL; four step-sons, Theron “Ted” Warner Snouffer of Clarksburg and Jerry Snouffer, Scott Snouffer and Stuart Snouffer, all of Florida; a sister, Virginia Sherman Smith of Mount Airey, MD; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one brother and four sisters. 

Pastor Glen Sites conducted the funeral Sunday at the chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial was in the Kline Cemetery.

Samuel Clay Keiter, 27, of Upper Tract died early Tuesday morning due to an accident in the Upper Tract area.

Born on Feb. 12, 1981, he was the son of Barry Thomas and Beverly Westfall Keiter of Upper Tract.

He was employed by Hubbard Construction and graduated from Pendleton County High School in 1999.

Also surviving area  companion, Falon Propst of Upper Tract; a daughter, Aubree Keiter of Upper Tract; a sister, Jessica Adkins and husband, Chris of Upper Tract; and a brother, Gabriel Keiter  and wife, Anna of Franklin.

Funeral arrangements, under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin, were incomplete at press time. 

Ralph B. Lam, 45

Ralph B. "R.B." Lam, 45, of Franklin, and formerly of Rockingham County, VA, died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. He battled cancer for the last two years.

Mr. Lam was born April 24, 1963, in Rockingham County, VA, and was a son of Erwin N. and Nancy Stroop Lam Sr. of Harrisonburg.

He worked as a carpenter in Virginia and West Virginia and was a farmer in West Virginia. Mr. Lam was a drummer for the band, Shades of Gold. He attended Faith Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fianceé, Jackie Dahmer of Franklin; a daughter, Gabrielle Lam of Bridgewater; two sisters, Teresa Werner of Massanutten, VA, and Claraesa Oakes of Elkton, VA; two brothers, Erwin N. Lam Jr. of Franklin and Gavin L. Lam Sr. of Harrisonburg, VA; former wife, Debbie Swope of Bridgewater; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pastor Kevin Gerber conducted the funeral Tuesday at McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA. Burial followed at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Virginia D. Smith, 94

Virginia D. Smith, 94, formerly of Harleysville, PA, and Seneca Rocks, died at Frederick Mennonite Community, on July 21, 2008.  

She was the wife of the late Carl J. Smith, who died in 1994. 

Born in Macksville, she was one of 13 children born to the late Alonzo and Rosetta (Nelson) Lawrence. 

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. 

She and her late husband moved from West Virginia to Harleysville, PA, in 1958. 

Mrs. Smith was employed by the Souderton Area School District, as a custodian at Indian Valley Middle School, Harleysville, PA.  She was a former member of High Rock United Methodist Church of Seneca Rocks and of the Farm Women's Club of Seneca Rocks. 

She is survived by three children, Duane L. Smith and wife, Patsy of Telford, PA, and Judy A., wife of Ronald Freed of Green Land, PA; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Franconia, PA.  Interment followed at Frieden's Union Cemetery, Sumneytown, PA.
