Brooks Warner, Jr., 55

Brooks Broze Warner, Jr., 55, of Clearville, PA, died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at his home.

Born May 14, 1954, in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Brooks Broze Warner, Sr., formerly of Riverton, and Thelma Virginia Hall Warner.

Mr. Warner was a 1973 graduate of Allegany High School and was the former owner and operator of Parking Lot Cleaning Service.  He was an avid bow hunter, traditional archery and was a lover of the outdoors.

His wife, Arlene L. Gibson Warner, of 33 years, survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Brooks B. Warner, III, and fiancée, Heather, and Samuel E. Warner and wife, Becky, all of Cumberland, MD; a brother, Charles L. Wilkinson of Cumberland, MD; two sisters, Sharon J. Wilkinson-VanHorne of Chesapeake, VA, and Sally L. Warner of Ellerslie, MD; and nine grandchildren, Jazmine, Emily Conner, Jacob, Sean, James “Juice,” Denver, Hunter, Logan and Luke.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Guy Wilkinson; and a sister, Janet Robinson.

A memorial service was conducted Monday at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, MD, with Pastor John L. Klink officiating.

Kenneth Puffenbarger, 69

Kenneth Paul Puffenbarger, 69, of Harrisonburg, VA, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Avante of Harrisonburg, VA.

He was born on May 20, 1940, in Brandywine and was the son of the late Hilda Arlene Mitchell Wilfong.

Mr. Puffenbarger was previously employed with Central Security Bureau and Harrisonburg Auto Auction.  He enjoyed playing the fiddle and listening to bluegrass and country music.  He also was a member of the Eagles Club.

His wife, Reba Madelene Foley Puffenbarger, preceded him in death.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty Falls and husband, Ronald of Hinton, VA; four step-daughters, Carolyn Sutherly and husband, Lloyd of Mount Solon, VA, Bonnie Lernerd of Timberville, VA, Rita Haven and husband, Bill of Linville, VA, and Mattie Southerly of Keezletown, VA; four step-sons, John “Tim” Head and wife, Gail of Broadway, VA, Roy Head and wife, Shelby of Timberville, VA, Roger Head and wife, Martha of Waynesboro, VA, and Jonathan Head of Harrisonburg, VA; four grandchildren; a number of step-grandchildren; and a number of step-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Saturday at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg, VA.  Burial followed at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Mount Sidney, VA.

Bobby Washington, 73

Bobby Lee Washington, 73, of Grottoes, VA, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Washington was born on Jan. 8, 1936, in Brandywine and was the son of the late Henry and Lena Washington.

He loved NASCAR, especially Jimmy Johnson No. 48, and loved his 12-year-old poodle, Bingo.

On July 1, 1967, he married Helen Freed Washington, who survives.

Surviving are a daughter, Bobbie Jo Holbert and husband, James, of McGaheysville, VA; three grandchildren, Stephanie Holbert, Brandon James Holbert and Arron Lee Holbert; three brothers, Warren Washington of Mount Crawford, VA, Eugene Washington of Harrisonburg, VA, and Jerry Washington of Grottoes, VA; three sisters, Arminna Fitzwater of Mount Crawford, VA, Judy Custer of Harrisonburg, VA, and Sue Long of McGaheysville, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite Bodkin; three brothers, Charles, Sam and Joe Washington; and a grandson, Matthew James Holbert.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg, VA, with the Rev. Michael Fallin officiating.  Burial followed at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

James Lee Sinnett

James Lee Sinnett, 82, of Franklin passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Pendleton Manor.

He was born Dec. 1, 1926, at Deer Run and was the son of the late Harvey and Myrtle Bolton Sinnett.

Mr. Sinnett was a 1947 graduate of Franklin High School.  He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the destroyer USS O'Brien.  Following the war, he continued his service to his country as a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves.  He was employed as a fingerprint analyst with the FBI for several years, but the love of Pendleton County brought the family back.

He was a well-known face in the community, having worked in several local businesses including Bowman's Store, Bowers' Market and Gordon Foods.  In 1962, he joined People's Life Insurance and enjoyed a long and distinguished career with them.  During his tenure with People's, he was often one of the top performers in the company, garnering many coveted awards and great admiration by his peers.  In 1986, he retired from People's, but soon joined Pendleton County Insurance, where he continued working for several more years. 

He was a member of the Franklin Lions Club, Pendleton Masonic Lodge #144 and a charter member of the Franklin Ruritan Club.

On May 13, 1948, he married the former Betty Lou McCoy, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Brenda Sinnett of Ellicott City, MD; one brother, Harvey J. Sinnett of Chittenango, NY; two granddaughters, Stacy Jenkins of Fredericksburg, VA, and Heather Aumann of Franklin; five great-grandchildren, Brady, Chandler, Samantha and Danielle Jenkins of Fredericksburg, VA, and Wyndsor Aumann of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janet S. Hammer; four sisters, Eva Kesner, Treva Nesselrodt, Mary Harman and Madelene Mitchell; and one brother, Keith Sinnett.

A service to honor Mr. Sinnett was held Sunday at the Walnut Street United Methodist Church in Franklin, where he had been a life-long member, with Rev. Robert Anderson officiating.  Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery at Franklin with graveside services conducted by members of the Pendleton County Honor Guard and members of Pendleton Masonic Lodge #144 A.F. & A.M.
