George Kevin Mitchell

George Kevin Mitchell, 42, of Franklin, died Monday, July 14, 2003, at his residence. 

Mr. Mitchell was born Sept. 6, 1960, in Harrisonburg, VA, and was the son of Roy Abraham and Mary Kathleen Hartman Mitchell. 

He was employed as a mechanic at Blauch Brothers in Harrisonburg, VA.  He was a member of the Franklin Moose # 769 and lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club.  He was also a member of the Franklin Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. 

He is survived by his wife, Robin Bell Mitchell; two daughters, Michelle Dawn Mitchell and Jessica Marie Mitchell, both of Franklin; one step-daughter, April Paige Mooney of Ellicott city, MD; one son, Kevin Roy Mitchell of Franklin; one step-son, Daniel Aron Wright of Franklin; two sisters, Doreen F. Turner of Port Republic, VA, and Delores Jean lam of Franklin; and one brother, Roy Steve Mitchell of Franklin.  

The Rev. Calvin Bailey, Pastor Dan Ludwick and elder John Hartman conducted the funeral Wednesday, July 16, at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home.  Burial followed in the Propst Family Cemetery, Smith Creek Road, Franklin. 

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Kevin Mitchell Children's Education Fund. 

Norene Elva Rodgers, 94

Norene Elva Rodgers, 94, Petersburg, died Monday, July 14, 2003 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mrs. Rodgers was born May 8, 1909, in Ft. Seybert and was the daughter of the late James t. Bodkins and Louise Kee Bodkins. 

Her husband, Rex A. Rodgers, preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 1962. 

Surviving are her son, James W. "Bill" Rodgers of Annandale, VA; a sister, Reva Hevener of Franklin; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

The Revs.Robert D. Smith and Lyle W. Berg, Sr., and forest Rodgers conducted the funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.

Frances L. Malavase, 61

Frances L. Malavase, 61, died July 9, 2003, at her home in Virginia Beach, VA.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Retired Master Chief Petty Officer David M. Malavase, and also her faithful friend and pet Honig.  

Mrs. Malavase was born in Riverton and was the daughter of the late Allen L. Teets.  She retired from the Naval Safety Center after 27 years as a statistical assistant.  She was an avid bowler with the Virginia Women's Bowling Association.  She attended worship service at the Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel.  

Surviving is her mother, Lillian Teets, Seneca rocks.  Also surviving is one sister, Honey Harman, Seneca Rocks, three brothers, Robert Teets, Seneca Rocks, Allen Teets, Costa Rica, and Samuel Teets, Ashland, VA; many devoted in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA or to one's favorite charity. 

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2003, at Kellum Funeral home, Rosewood Chapel, 601 Witchduck road, Virginia Beach.  Burial will be private.

Carol R. Thompson

Carol R. Thompson, 67, Elkins, died  July 6, 2003, at Davis Memorial Hospital.

She was born Feb. 7, 1936, at Circleville, a daughter of the late Ora and Birtie Lambert Wimer.

She was preceded in death by her companion of many years, Lewis W. “Happy” Leary on Dec. 23, 2002.

Surviving are two brothers, Carl Wimer of Mt. Jackson, VA, and Johnie Wimer of Timberville, VA; four sisters, Martha Wimer, Franklin, Lorine Haefner, Topeka, KS, Reva Rittenour, Mt. Jackson, VA, and Revella Siever of New Market, VA.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Gilbert Wimer and John B. Wimer; one sister, Nola Skoufatos; and three half sisters, Minnie Judy, Zena Kimble and Delcie Lambert.

She was employed by Reidbord Brothers for many years prior to becoming disabled. She was a homemaker and a Presbyterian by faith.

Funeral services were held July 9 at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Keith Miller and the Rev. Destry Daniels officiating.  Interment will follow in Mouse Cemetery.
