Charles Russell "Mac" McDonald, 91, of Fayetteville, NC, died Thursday, June 28, 2007, at his home. 

Mr. McDonald was born  Feb. 10, 1916, in Circleville and was the son of the late Charles Russell McDonald of Riverton and Olivia Blanche Kline-Cook of Circleville. 

He graduated from Circleville High School in 1934.  He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army and Air Force in Hawaii.  He was a lumberjack in Maine and a retired auto mechanic.  He was also an accomplished musician and played the guitar and sang on the Listerine Hour in Hawaii.  

He was blessed to have had his devoted daughter-in-law, Candy Barton of Fayetteville, NC, care for him for the past seven years. 

His wife, Rhoda, preceded him in death in 1986. 

Surviving are a son, David McDonald of Fayetteville, NC: a daughter, Nita Ruggles of Fayetteville, NC; a half sister Ruby Cook Phares of Circleville; three half brothers, Edgar Cook of Frederick, MD, Raymond Cook of Edgewater, MD, and Morris Cook of Christiansburg, VA; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  

He was also preceded in death by two sons, Eddie adn Russell McDonald; and a half brother Herbert Floyd Cook of Circleville, who passed away June 26, 2007. 

He will be cremated and transported to Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Maine to rest in peace alongside his wife.  

Michelle Nelson, 46

Michelle Marie Nelson, 46, a resident of Rosedale, MD, died May 19, 2007, in Rosedale, MD. 

Born April 25, 1961, in Baltimore, MD, she was a daughter of Betty Ann Fleisher Nelson of Fork, MD, and formelry of Monterey, VA, and the late George A. Nelson formerly of Cherry Grove.  

She was born with cerebral palsy and has been an invalid all her life.  

Surviving besides her mother, are two brothers, Timothy Nelson and wife, Janice of Perry Hall, MD, and George A. Nelson, Jr., and wife, Patty of Upper Falls, MD; two sisters, Beverly Ferguson of Forest Hill, MD, and Patricia Fronzoli and husband, Donald of Airville, PA; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  

She also was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Sue Nelson, and a brother, John Roy Nelson.  

Funeral services were held May 23 at E.F. Lassahn Funeral Home in Maryland. 

Her body was cremated.

Herbert F. Cook

Herbert Floyd Cook, 86, of Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at his residence.

Mr. Cook was born June 26, 1921, in Circleville and was the son of the late Frank M. and Olivia Blanche Kline Cook.

He graduated from Circleville High School in 1941. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Belgium and England. He was a carpenter and attended Circleville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, Terry Floyd Cook and wife, Christina of Brandywine, MD; a sister, Ruby Cook Phares of Circleville; a half-sister, Jane Cook of Harper’s Ferry; three brothers, Edgar Cook of Frederick, MD, Raymond Cook of Edgewater, MD, and Morris Cook of Christiansburg, VA; three half-brothers, Charles McDonald of Fayetteville, NC, Charles Cook of Rockville, MD, and Richard Cook of Frederick, MD, two grandchildren, Terry Floyd Cook, Jr., and Katelyn Marie Cook; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Stanley Kile conducted the funeral from the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial with military graveside rites by Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard were in North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.

Helen Ann Moats, 73, of Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin, and formerly of Sugar Grove, died July 2, 2007, at the nursing home.

Born Feb. 4, 1934, in Moyers,  she was a daughter of the late Albert Lee Berlin Moats and Della Frances Moats.

She retired as a seamstress from the Franklin Garment Company and was also employed at Hanover Shoe Company in Summit Point. She was a member of the Moats Chapel AME Church.

Surviving are one sister, Clona Moats of Franklin; one brother, Freddie Moats of Moyers; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Vergie Marie Moats; and six sister, Orpha, Strother, Eliza Jane Moats, Margie Wright, Hazel Cubbage, Betty Moats and Lillie Moats.  

Funeral services were held Wednesday (July 4) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of  Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Doug Lewis officiating.  Burial was in the Harper Hill Cemetery, Moyers.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial was in Harper Hill Cemetery in Moyers.
