Roy L. Waggoner Sr., 88

Roy L. Waggoner Sr., 88, of Pendleton Manor in Franklin, and formerly of Hightown, VA, died Saturday, June 28, 2008.

Mr. Waggoner was born July 21, 1919, in Blue Grass, VA, and was the son of the late Edward Clarence and Annie Belle Stone Waggoner.

He was a farmer, sheep shearer and a Highland County, VA, school bus driver. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a charter member of Blue Grass Ruritan Club, having held many offices. He was a lifelong member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church, having served as its superintendent and a Sunday school teacher, and an active trustee of the church and church cemetery and showed livestock at the Highland County Fair.

On April 29, 1944, he married Dahlia Ruckman, who preceded him in death Nov. 10, 2004.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol Swecker of Franklin, Judy and Andy Hupman of Hightown, VA,  and Darlene and Alan Puffenbarger of Monterey, VA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Lee, Jr. and Judy Waggoner of Blue Grass, VA, and Gerald and Linda Waggoner of Pittsburgh, PA; seven grandchildren, Kristina Meris and husband, Jonathan, Bryan Werner, Stephanie McCoy and husband, Da, Eric WAggoner, Jon Swecker, Daniel Swecker and Michael Hupman; two great-grandsons, Joshua and Jack McCoy; two great-granddaughters, Katie McCoy and Kailey Meris, and a sister, Hilda Mullenax of Blue Grass, VA.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Max and Ivan Waggoner; and four sisters, Glenna Waggoner, Thelma Puffenbarger, Marie Arbogast and Doris Hannah.  

His body was cremated and a memorial service will be held Saturday, July 12, at 2 p.m. a Union Chapel church, Blue Grass, VA.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are by Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA.

Georgia E. Williams, 88

Georgia Etta Williams, 88, of Harrisonburg, VA, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA.

Mrs. Williams was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Franklin and was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Clara E. Moyers Elyard.

She graduated from FRanklin High School and made her home in Nashville, TN, prior to moving to Harrisonburg, VA, in December 1995. She was employed in retail sales and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Franklin.

Her husband, James T. Williams, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a sister, Sylvia Marie Evans of Petersburg; a brother, Samuel B. Elyard of Clarksburg; one grandson, Mark Lambert of Franklin; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Elyard of Franklin.

Her body will be cremated at the Lindsey Cremation Chapel in Harrisonburg, VA, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Rudalee Suhrie Owensby

Rudalee Suhrie Owensby, 65, of Apopka, FL, died April 18, 2008. 

Born Dec. 10, 1942, in Florida, she was a daughter of the late Ruth and Dan Suhrie. 

She worked and retired as a telephone operator from Adventist hospital, Apopka, FL. 

Her husband, Bill Owensby, survives. 

Also surviving are two step-sons, David and Steven Owensby; one granddaughter, Alexandra; three nieces, Audrey, Danielle and Nancy; a nephew, Jason; and their families, all of California; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and their families throughout the country.  She is also mourned by her loving kitty, Murphy, and dogs, Sadie Belle Mic, Sonny, Buster and Tinker Belle.  

She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Pendleton and Virginia Lawrence of Riverton. 

A celebration of life was held April 27 at the Forest Lake S.D.A. Church, Apopka, FL 32703.

Leason Alexander, 84

Leason R. Alexander, 84, of Ceredo passed away Thursday, June 26, 2008, at his home. 

He was born Oct. 28, 1923, at Mozer and was the son of the late Samuel E. and Alice Ketterman Alexander. 

He was a retired insurance agent with Western Southern.  He was a member of the Westmoreland United Methodist Church and the River Cities Lions Club. 

His wife, Ardella Hevener Alexander survives. 

Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Karen Alexander of Barboursville; a daughter and son-in-law, Alison Alexander and James Owers of Athens, GA; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sister-in-law, Mary Alexander of Mozer and Chloe Miller of Prospect, OH; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Reger Funeral Chapel in Huntington with Rev Steve Grimes officiating.  Burial was at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville. 

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Huntington.

Carolyn B. Jones, 66

Carolyn B. Jones, 66, of Rockville, MD, died on June 24, 2008. 

Born Dec. 11, 1941, in Glady, she was the daughter of Hansel and Ruth Bennett. 

She graduated from Circleville High School in 1959. 

Her husband, Sherman I. Jones, preceded her in death. 

Mrs. Jones was the mother of Carole A. Tyrrell of Woodbridge, VA, and Richard G. Noland and wife, Diane of Laurel, MD: sister of Wayne Bennett, Frank Bennett, Doris Schaefer; and grandmother of Matthew, Rebecca, Sarah and Mitchell. 

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Bennett. 

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 8, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 10401 Armory Ave., Kensington, MD  20895.  Graveside services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, July  3, at 11 a.m.  Everyone attending please meet at the administration building at 10:30 a.m.
