Leslie Vernon “Joe” Paugh
Leslie Vernon “Joe” Paugh, 91, of Mt. Storm died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, in Oakland Nursing and Rehab Center, Oakland, MD.
He was born on Aug. 30, 1918, in Akron, OH.
Mr Paugh served his country with distinction in the south Pacific during World War II with the 6th infantry division. He was a life member of the Deer Park VFW, Oakland, MD. He took pride in being awarded the combat infantry badge with crest, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Defense Service Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal.
He strived to help those in need and particularly to assist veterans of all wars when needed. In later years, many who he helped returned his kindness with aid and support.
He retired from the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources after 29 years of service.
His wife, Gwendolyn Hayhurst Paugh, preceded him in death in 1980.
Surviving are one daughter Candice Carol Bennett and husband, Leon of Circleville; one son, Randy Paugh of Mt Storm; two grandsons, Ellis Bennett and wife, Ann, and Arden Paugh; one granddaughter, Gwendolyn Bennett; one great-granddaughter, Emily; one brother, Carroll Paugh and wife, Maralee of Baltimore, MD; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his mother Bertha Bosley Paugh; step-father Riley Paugh; infant brother, Ardvern Paugh; and two sisters, Madeline Paugh Lyons and Wilma Paugh Almony.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Mt. Storm United Methodist Church with Rev. Mary Radford, Paul O'Gorek, chaplain, and assisted by Mr. Paugh’s nephew, Richard E. Lyons. Interment followed in the Alkire Cemetery on the Longview Farm in Mt. Storm with military rites.
He requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Deer Park or Petersburg VFW ladies auxiliary cancer fund or to the Alkire Cemetery, c/o Doug Lyons, PO Box 33, Mt. Storm, WV 26739.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg.

Marshall Tingler, 77
Marshall Tingler, 77, of Circleville departed this life on June 28, 2010, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, after a short illness.
Born May 22, 1933, at Cherry Grove, he was the son of the late Charles and Fannie Tingler.
Mr. Tingler was a lifetime logger and an avid member of the Pine Grove Church of the Brethren. He devoted many hours to helping members of the community. He always put others in front of himself. He was a great friend to many people, whose lives he touched.
His wife, Betty Tingler, survives.
Also surviving are five sons, Guy Tingler and wife, Connie of Bartow, Roger L. Tingler and wife, Gloria, Victor Tingler, Ricky Tingler and wife, Polly, and Timothy Tingler and wife, Lynn, all of Circleville; a daughter, Sharon Carter and husband, Gary of Green Bank; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a half sister, Darie Arbaugh; a brother, Virgil Tingler; and two children, Terry Tingler and Cathy Tingler Huffman.
A graveside service will be held today 3 p.m. at the Tingler Family Cemetery.
The family received friends at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale on Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Donna Joan Hedrick
Donna Joan Hedrick, 83, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at her residence in Coshocton, OH.
Mrs. Hedrick was born on Feb. 7, 1927 in Warsaw, OH, the daughter of the late Terry and Alta Mencer Darr.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting.
On March 31, 1961, Donna married Hugh Hedrick, who survives in Coshocton, OH.
Also surviving are three daughters, Becky Lynn Lawrence of Coshocton, OH, Linda Sue Qualls of Mt. Vernon, OH, and Joyce Ann Rine of Martinsburg, OH; a son, Wendell Lee Hedrick of Coshocton, OH; a sister, Paula Cooper; a brother, John Darr; and eight grandchildren, Michael Andrew Hedrick, Matthew Ryan Hedrick, Bobby Qualls, Scott Qualls, Chad Rine, Amy Shumate, Carrie Hampshire and Pam Chambers.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence Darr, Rolland Darr and Gene Darr; and two sisters, Sarah McCombs and Florence Funk.
Funeral services were held Friday at the High Rock United Methodist Church, Seneca Rocks, with Rev. Barbara Rexroad officiating. Interment was in the Hedrick Cemetery at the Seneca Rocks.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.
Betty Sponaugle, 76
Betty L. “Betsy” of Longboat Key, FL, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2010.
She was born June 4, 1934, in Franklin and was the daughter of the late Marvin L. and Argyle Wimer Sponaugle.
Ms. Sponaugle graduated from Franklin High School in 1952 and attended Concord College in Athens. She moved to Harrisburg, PA, and worked for the Pennsylvania State Education Association in the research department. When she retired, she moved to Longboat Key, FL, where she was an active member of the Longboat Key Turtle Club and Garden Club.
Surviving are two sisters, Loretta Homan of Shepherdstown and Ruth Bowers of Sugar Grove; one brother, Carrol Lee Sponaugle of Franklin; four nieces, Susan Homan of Shepherdstown, Sarah Speck of Shenandoah Junction, Diane Paden of Brandywine and Brenda Sponaugle of Harrisonburg, VA; eight nephews, Gary Harper of Palm Harbour, FL, Guy Harper of Franklin, Gail Harper of Manassas, VA, David Sponaugle of Clarksburg, Stephhen Sponaugle of Tarpon Springs, FL, Dr. Marvin L. “Rick” Sponaugle, III, of Tampa, FL, William Harvey Bowers, Jr., Wasilla, AK;, and Jeffrey S. Bowers of Sugar Grove.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine Harper; and a brother, Marvin L. Sponaugle, Jr.
Family held a private grave site service.

Anita Pearl Wimer Judy, 70, of Knoxville, IL, died Sunday, June 27, 2010.
