Paul S. Colaw, 90

Paul Swecker Colaw, 90, of Monterey, VA, died Tuesday; June 16, 2009, at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville, VA.

He was born July 1, 1918, in Blue Grass, VA, a son of the late George Edward and Virgie Belle (Swecker) Colaw.

Mr. Colaw was a farmer.  He was a past member of New Church Methodist and the Blue Grass Ruritan Club.  He loved to hunt and fish.

His wife, Glenna Louvina (Wimer) Colaw, whom he married June 22, 1940, survives.

Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Betty C. and David W. Kiser of Blue Grass, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Sammy P. and Carol A. Colaw of Monterey, VA; four granddaughters; three great-grandsons; two sisters, Mary Margaret Ruddick of Weyers Cave, VA, and Dorothy Shepherd of Monterey, VA; and three brothers, Wayne E. Colaw of Cherry Grove, George E. “Goog” Colaw, Jr., of Blue Grass, VA, and John David Colaw of Mustoe, VA.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ginny Curry and Becky Hull; and an infant brother, Cyrus Dean Colaw.

A graveside service was conducted Friday at Blue Grass Cemetery with the Rev. Richard S. Gibson and Rev. C. William “Bill” Cox officiating.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, VA.

Sandra Kay Hinkle

Sandra Kay Hinkle, 50, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at her residence on Snowy Mountain Road in Franklin.

Mrs. Hinkle was born on June 27, 1958, in Alliance, OH, the daughter of Albert “Tommy” Newcomb of Cherry Grove and Margaret “Sally” Meredith of Ohio.

She was twice married.  First to Leo Ruddle of Franklin, and she is survived by her husband, James Edwin “Jimmy” Hinkle.

She worked at Hanover Shoe and the Pantry Store, was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was a 1976 graduate of Franklin High School.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she is survived by two sons, Chris Ruddle and wife, Melanie of Franklin, and Teddy Hinkle and wife, Brandie of Upper Tract; one brother, John Newcomb of McGaheysville, VA; and two grandchildren, Makailyn and Ryelan Ruddle.  She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her third grandchild, Wyatt Hinkle.

Elder David Hartman conducted funeral services Saturday at the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.  Interment was in Blue Grass Cemetery, Blue Grass, VA.
